my oxygen8 became non-responsive the day I hooked it to a USB2.0 port. Now the only way is with midi... and because I don't have the AC adapter for it, I get the power from a USB port. i think it's a true piece of junk but meh.. don't see why it wouldn't let itself be automated in ableton

is it the oxygen8 or the oxygen8 v2 ?

I've had a pair of MDR-7506 for now about 5 years, they're pretty nice but not for too long. Gets rough on the ears pretty quickly and at low volume it's pretty hard to hear the full mix clearly.

meh, gotta disagree a bit with some of the things said here..

saying that there are no speakers worth buying under 2000$+ is exaggerated. you need to make a decision based on your situation.

first : have you been producing music for a while? are you a complete newbie, or a complete pro? or somewhere between that? do you feel your speakers/headphones are stopping you from progressing? if so, buy better speakers.

second : how much cash are you ready to spend. personally i spent 1100$ on my pair of monitors. I'm not super rich but I have been patient, gave myself a lot of time to think, and made the move when the time felt right. (and I am damn satisfied of my purchase!)

third : WHAT DO YOU WANT THEM FOR? honestly, you can make stomping rave choonz with quite cheap speakers. they will even sound good in raves. i know for one that lone star has the crappiest shit in the world and his tracks sound quite good, he's gonna kick major asses when he finally decides to get good speakers. right now he pays about 30$ to get his tracks mastered by a pro when he finishes them,

also of course it costs a lot to get the perfect home studio, and that's why most people start renting a studio when they start making mad cash with music. as long as you're learning/not making cash, better buy cheaper studio stuff, get some experience and really know how much you enjoy producing music, get to know your strengths and all. and it's useless to spend too much if you're pretty new to it... i know enough people who spend a assload of cash in gear and nearly never use it


also about headphones.. they're really not for everyone! personally i do everything with the speakers, and really hate doing anything with the headphones. again that's something you can only figure out for yourself by doing some field work and making some wise investments.
