I didn't watch the whole movie (almost famous), I only popped in towards the end. From what I saw, it looked really good -it sort of reminded me of my dad and some of the stories he used to tell me, and little bit of myself on being a writer/journalist... If I can say anything about the film, really, is that it's probabaly worth your while to watch the whole thing.
I'm feeling really random right now..

c'est vrai qu'il eprouvait quelque dificulte au niveau carriere.. si tu veux des details--->

- On November 12, 2003, Brandis died from injuries he suffered after hanging himself the previous day. He was 27 years old. According to his mother, he went out to dinner with friends, then they went back to his apartment. His friends reported that he seemed to be agitated and pacing around quite a bit. He left the room and, approximately 15 minutes later, one of his friends went looking for him and found him hanging by a nylon rope in the second floor hallway of his building. His friends cut him down and called paramedics. Despite efforts, he was pronounced dead at Cedars Sinai Medical Center. The Los Angeles Police Department released a statement about his death, as follows:

On November 11, 2003, at about 11:40 p.m., a friend of Jonathan Brandis called police to report that the actor had attempted suicide at his apartment, located in the 600 block of Detroit Avenue. Paramedics from the Los Angeles Fire department [sic] responded and transported Brandis to Cedars Sinai Medical Center where he eventually died from his injuries. Brandis' death was announced by hospital staff on November 12, 2003, at about 2:45 p.m."

Jonathan apparently did not leave a note of any kind. According to his mother, he had no prior suicide attempts, drank socially, quit smoking over two years prior, and did not abuse drugs. There were no personal problems, except for the fact that he could be quite hard on himself. She has also questioned whether his use of the acne drug Accutane may be to blame, citing that one of the clinical side effects has been said to be psychosis and suicide. In a People magazine article, friends were quoted as saying he was lonely and depressed about his career lull. One friend said he knew Brandis drank heavily and had even told friends that he might kill himself. He was also said to be upset when his appearance in Hart's War, a role he hoped would be his comeback, was cut from the film.

je suis aussi une fan du film i shot andy warhold.. i'm a huge fan of american psycho that marry harron wrote and directed.. j'ai hate de voir the notorious bettie page.. elle a ecrit le scenario et a dirige.. j'etais tres decue du choix pour l'actrice..mais bon hollywood n'aime pas les rondeurs et j'ai trouve ca minable de donner le role a une maigrichonne! marry harron est douee mais ne produit pas beaucoup malheureusement!

btw : nice new hair color! hehe..;p
et n'essait pas de update pour remettre le thread en premiere page! ca ne marche plus comme ca!:(

NECSPRESS : I watched almost famous a couple of times.. i'm not really a cameron crow fan..the only one that i really like was singles...but i was 10 years old and in love with matt dilon so i don't think that you can count it!haha! beside almost famous he made : Elizabethtown, Vanilla Sky(the original was so much better), Jerry Maguire, Singles, Say Anything... anybody want to take his defense here???

but alots of good actors in that movies...
Billy Crudup, Frances McDormand, Jason Lee*drool*, Patrick Fugit(in his introducing..he did verry well!),
philip seymour hofman, anna paquin...ect.. malheureusement, i can't stand kate hudson..i don't like her actind, her face..ect

good entertainement..not more..give u an idea how groupies can be fuck up.. int also to watch this "real" sucess american story about a teen who's hired by rolling stone..peter frampton have a part and it's him who taugh to some actor to play guitar! u should def. watch it but don't expect to see a perfect cult chef-d'oeuvre..

come make your critique when you watched it!:)

CALVAIRE, (english title: the ordeal), by fabrice du welz, belgium, 2004, 9.5/10

WOW ! WOW! WOW!

we went to teather seen it on monday...like majority of french language movies it was the only day of projection in ny.. i was very excited and expected alot because it seem that a new wave of excellent
horror movies are released since couple of years from europe ..

i like alot already belgium movies..(catherine braillat, la classe de neige, toto le heros, le 8emejourect) but this one is my new fav from this country!

the technique is so good! the filming very original...what i liked most is the light..brunatre..rougeatre..sometime verdatre.. wow! i never seen woods filming in a creepy beauty like that..

the acting is purely genius.. philippe nahon still in a psycho is incredible..(he was the psycho of haute tension) and i like so much laurent lucas(harry un ami qui vous veut du bien, le pronographe..)
fishead: you probably like him..he have a part in pola x... he played thibault..
.. he's very experiemented but in that one he can show..the pain.

the screenplay is fun but the themes already exploited..(animal love sex, torture, rape, crazy redneck..ect) so everything is in the revisiter old trick from this genre..and it's made with a very originalty! the sound is well done and very int.

in that movie i see the most perfect run in the wood.. a perfect editing too.

some scenes are very uniques and make u uncomfurtable..(youpi!!)

only one thing bothered me in that movie..anything is explain at all, i mean the why of the story, the meaning...any metaphore..any clue..ANYTHING..
so at the end of the movie i was like HEU... WHY YOU TOLD ME THIS STORY??? but whatever.. beside that it was perfect..and it's my problem if i'm anxious i supose,,haha

few references at other movies...my fav was for the excellent movie deliverance..(scream like a pig! haha!ha!) [ www.. ] i think i'm gonna buy it..

i don't know if it's released in canada?? someone know?

SYNOPSIS:

He is taken in by Mr. Bartel , an innkeeper who became psychologically fragile after his wife Gloria left him. This is how Marc’s ordeal begins…

VERY COOL TRAILER DESTINATE FOR THE ASIAN MARKET! WOW! WATCH IT! -----> [ www.youtube.com ]

LA MARIEE ETAIT EN NOIR(english title:the bride wore black), by FRANCOIS TRUFFAUT, 1968, FRANCE, 10/10

this is my french man..( godard, don't be jealous i love u too!) each times i re-watch one of his movies i just think: WHAT A FUCKING GENIUS!!! truffaut was and will always be the best of france..
even his lastest work was [ great..com ] to godard who became too coince in his few last work..(i'm sorry my dear godard!)

so this is a master piece.(not my fav from him...my fav is les 400 coups, because more easiest personnal identification for me..)

truffaut wrote the most complete book about alfred hitchchock and this is an hommage to him.
the score, the story, the theme(cold women who want revenge)...

i like evrything about this oeuvre. jeanne moreau is sublime. i like so much her voice and acting.. she wasn't that young when she made that(40yo) but she's so cold sexy.. well this kind of women stay pretty 4 ever!

often when i work in video store and a client want to try a french chef d'oeuvre but is not a knowledge person in this genre i recommande this one first.. because the story is entertaining and the film is not dificult at all.

an excellent post-noir movie that everyone should see once in their life!

also for the kill bill fan... tarantino was largely and openly(at this point it's hard to say the contraire!) influenced by this master piece.. well he's always influenced by other guys...;p

SYNOPSIS : After trying to commit suicide, the widow Julie Kohler (Jeanne Moreau) pretends to her mother that she will leave her town. Actually she stays, chases and assassinates the five men that accidentally killed her beloved husband in the stairs of the church immediately after their wedding ceremony.

FANDO AND LIS, by ALEJANDRO JODOROWSKY, mexico, b&w, 1968, 10/10

jodorowsky is not a easy genius... personnaly it's can take few projection to me for really appreciated his work.. real chef d'oeuvre.. same year than the precedent movie but so far..

very surealiste and theatrale.. almost experimentale.. u can see that this men was alot into mime and play before starting in the 7eme art..i can compare him easely with some fellini.. i think he was very avangardiste..in his editing particulary.. and i don't even talk about the story!!

some scenes was very disturbing and bother me alot.. i like it..i love when art provocate me.. but this guy push alot.. like i would never take drug and watch that!

this movie is so complex..i would like to analyse it for a film class but probably would take me weeks hahaha! this one is also kind of special because it's considered his "lost" work..and first feature film. he made before les tete invertis i think with marcel marceau the very famous. but i never saw that anywhere..

it worth it to watch it..each shot is a real tableau d'art!

SYNOPSIS : the tale of 2 young people who search through a destroyed world for a mythic city called Tar, where it is believed that all of one's wishes can come true. Instead, along the way, they are corrupted and driven mad.

-1968 has been called " the year that shaped a generation"..in mexico, as elsewhere, 1968 marcked the crest of student protest and violent political unrest. at the acapulco film festival, a 96 min. black and white film premiered as one of two official selection representing mexico.

shot on week-end with a budget of 100,000$ it was denonced as corosive and corrupting and changed the face of mexican cinema. jodorowsky had 39yo from chili, and one of mexico leadind stage director.
adapted from a play by fernando arrabal, jodorowsky had first staged the play in paris, and was familiar enough with the material to direct the film from memory!!!!!!!!!, using only a single page outline as his shooting script.

the reaction to the film was extraordinary. 2500 people were in the attendance when the festival light dimmed, but as the imaginary of the film became more and more bizarre, members of the audiance began to shout back the screen. fight broke out, and people began to leave the screening by dozens. after the first hour, less than a fith of the audience remained inside the theather, and a mob was begining to form outside...

the anxious festival director had security hold the doors to the auditorium closed while jodorowsky slipped outside to his waiting limousine where he crouched on the floor as the mob outside hurled rocks at the fleeing car! the following week, fando and lis opened to sell outcrowds in mexico city, but with the same result and the film was soon banned in mexico...

THIS GUY HAVE A SHIT LOAD OF TALENT! and a cute cat..hehe

I'm feeling ok right now..

Jodorowsky is completely insane. El Topo is simply one of the most phenomenal things I've ever seen... a post-apocalyptic western drenched in mysticism and biblical references. I also like Holy Mountain, but El Topo is so much more.

I still haven't gotten around to watching Fando Y Lis, but the documentary (Constellation Jodorowsky) on the FYL dvd is quite impressive.

The people that collaborated with him on his early films also turned out some interesting material on their own. Arrabal's Viva La Muerte, for example...

i have to admit that the first time i watched el topo i wasn't in the right mood and didn't went crazy about it...like when i watches santa sangre.. but the second time..WOW! and yeah jodorowsky is insane!!
it's my plan to watch again everything that he made very soon.. and i'm gonna check this one that u propose.. viva la muerte..

i was for going see snake on plane at the theater but because the schedule, i hadn't choice to pick an other one.. i think i would prefer see anything instead of the fucking shit i had to watch for 2h05.. not that i expected something really good..

since i'm kid, i always have kind of fixation.. my first period was the south african apartheid after for a long time i was obssess with j.f.k., for a while it was rwanda.. but now it's the 9/11(not the chile date..the usa one) so during these period i just try to watch and read the most possible about these subject....

so thats why i ended up watching world trade... one of the movie i regret the most to see and pay in my entire life.... i was expecting a kind of action flick and my tasteless curiosity wanted to see the interior of the building.. you know people trowing themselfes by windows.. stuff like that..

finaly it's just a big drama.. i never get to see the inside of the building because the towers colapse after the first 15 min. of the movie.. nicolas cage and other actor are under a big rock and can't physicaly moove for 2h.... wow that's what i called a good physical acting... that with some scene of their wife going emotively crazy.. hoooonnnn... i even have a tears in my eye at some point.

the film include some of the famous bush speech to the nation and in any case during the movie the government is show in a bad way.. it's very look like a propagande movie! and the most discusting is how this movie contain butt sucking for jesus and god... i was almost laughing when one of the guy under the rock is so thursty that he start to hallucinate a jesus with a bottle of spring water(placement de produit!!)...

arrrrrkkkk man i can't believe an experienced director can give a birth to a shiat like that!!!
every aspect of this production is N-U-L !!!!!

i give to that a fucking huge 0 ! i'm not a huge fan of oliver stone..couple of his work are watchable but this one is pure bullshit!!!
I'm feeling ok right now..

Ouch... I ended up over at a friend's place last night. We watched Hard Eight (paul thomas anderson's first film), Lunacy (by Jan Svankmajer) and some short films by The Brothers Quay.

Lunacy is pretty messed up. I think it's partly based on the same Edgar Allan Poe short as Moctezuma's Mansion Of Madness - but it also incorporates a great deal of the Marquis de Sade... which means that you have an asylum that, at points, feels as depraved as the mountain retreat in Pasolini's Salo.

...and that's before we start talking about all the animated meat...

i know the brothers quay but not that much... i like passolini too.. i didn't watch the movies that you mention, i'm gonna try to find that.. + i like asylum + i like edgar poe...so it's prob. a must for me!

i love so much paul thomas anderson..but hard eight, that i malheureusement didn't watch yet, is also known as sydney and was release in 1996...hard eight is the new usa title..i should have it at my store..

maybe it was his first movie and was only release later??

because i tought that i watched his first movie and it was the dirk diggler story ( 1988 ) that he based after for making boogie night!

maybe i make a mistake!?
