DJ_DTM: I've always managed to find good stuff at Suspect in Toronto... love that store. I think I picked up my copy of the book Killing For Culture there (seriously good read - chronicles the history of mondo films and exploitation gore - as well as covering the so-called myth of snuff)...

Fave cannibal film? It's a tough call... but for the classic stuff, I think I'd have to go with Cannibal Holocaust, as it's a fully realised piece of cinema (and not simply an exploitation excercize). I do have soft-spot for Cannibal Ferox because it was the first film I saw with a castration scene in it... an old friend of mine hooked me up with a copy of that - he'd dubbed the videos for Terminus and Unclean by Psychic TV onto the end of the tape. Some guy borrowed it, and never gave it back. Oh well.

DJ Tron in Chicago (hardcore gorehound) made me a video copy of his laserdisc version... he also hooked me up with a VHS dub of the original international cut of Bladerunner (with the extra violence and the narration). It was only ever released in widescreen on laserdisc - and the original version of the film has been supressed since the "Director's Cut" (aka: the Director-is-too-busy-making-Thelma-And-Louise cut) was released.

Lastly - Antonioni is awesome... The Passenger is really intense, but I think Red Desert is still my favourite. I also really like Zabriskie Point... we studied Antonioni & Fellini in my third year film studies class (Director's Cinema) - it was a real treat to see some of those films theatrically.

I can't even watch the directors cut anymore after watching that one. The naration alone makes the movie so much better.

I saw the original release at a rep-theatre shortly before the so-called Director's Cut was released. It weird, because when I watch the recut, I still hear the narration running through it. It's a bit annoying at some points, but I really like the way it works during the end sequence.

Check out the book Future Noir if you're interested in learning just about everything there is to learn about Blade Runner. It's the bible when it comes to that film - there's an appendix that lists pretty much every official release of the film and compares them for content / image quality / aspect ratio.

BUIO OMEGA also known as BURIED ALIVE(not the horror tv special..), BEYOND THE DARKNESs, BLUE HOLOCAUST and THE FINAL DARKNESS... by JOE D'AMATO, 1979, italie, 8/10

i like alot some scene of this one but the fucking music scratch my nerves by moments each times i watched it..i think that is a kind of cult band, the goblins but i'm not able to stand it..it's just too much..
i like synth alot but i think it's just bad coordinated..

i like necrophelia movies and this one contain sexe scene but i think it's not going enought far..
surprising when you think that beside his horror movies he made 1000 porn...(he even directed some emmanuelle haha!) but well just my tasteless sens of esthetique...never enought guts and gross stuf!haha

i like alot the character of the housekeeper. she's so fugly! when she eat she really make me want a puke!
well i still prefer his other cult: antropophagus..

SYNOPSIS : A young rich orphan loses his fiancée to voodoo doll mischief on the part of his housekeeper who is jealous of his attentions. He digs his girlfriend up, cleans her out, stuffs her, and puts her in bed at the mansion. Following this, he tries out and disposes of a series of young maidens, trying to find the right replacement for her, and the disapproving housekeeper helps him with the disposals.

ANARCHISM IN AMERICA, by Steven Fischler & Joel Sucher, 1982, usa, 8.5/10

very int. this re-edition of this 82' documentary.. it's also include an other documentary: the free voice of labor, the jewish anarchists...

the firts one is not very well structurize but contains some very good interview with people from libetarian, anarchist, marxist, leninist..ect association who explain their point of view.
what i highly appreciate was the fact that they "epargne" us from interviewing fake little poseur punk..
who majority of time don't know anything about theses societal questions..and just make all the rest pass for ignorant who just want fucking chaos!
the only thing who got near that is from a very old interview with biafra..but that's ok..i like them alot and are part of an important culture..

the most cool is all the archives of the first anarchist immigrants in america like footages of begining of 1900..spanish, russian, italian immigrants.. and a little interview with the great emma goldman one of the pionneer movement..

the second doc. is more structurised.. in yedish with subtitles.. very int. to see people who turn from religion to go on this direction!

I just happened to watch V for Vendetta yesterday and being an action movie I was surprised that it had such a good script. Yes, I liked it quiet a lot. The cheesiness didn't make me dislike the movie just because I think it had its reason in the movie, to remain different. I didn't go see it when it came out because it was done by the same suckers that made the matrix and I don't like action movie that much. This movie strong point is only in the message, so if you miss out on the message well to bad for you. Just replace the whole fascism thing by democracy they are not that far from one to another.
By what democracy is supposed to stand for yes they are different but what it's actually causing to society, there just doing the same that all governments do, control out of fear to lose.

me too i want to read it. and i'm gonna buy it for sure soon. and i'm gonna be happy to pay 20$ for it.

i was just feeling exasparate alot by this movie that some people pay to watched in theater!

i like this kind of story, kind of moderne zola type tale. almost all my screenplay contain societale politique.

but i hate when movie take a politique idea when the basic motivation and result have like consequence that now you can buy the fucking mask made in taiwan on web!

so right in advance i was hating this movie. i was happy to see on L train women sale bad copy of v(with other bullshit movies) for 5$ first day of theater release! and i would and i never buy art ilegaly.

my mother an ex-activist hardcore and bd collector, would have laugh and think that it's stupid and malhonete the movie.

at least people talk about alan moore.

i took a look and seem int...I like the drawing!

necspress, i'm gonna take a look at the weed movie. thank.

well people don't seem to like too much this kind of music here but just for mention..
the sonic youth and yeah yeah yeahs concert was excellent. the crowd was in a gigantic empty pool,
the sound was good too.
they were happy to give a hometown show and the music was awsome! sonic youth are genius and during the encore they played songs of 81 and 83! only one deception, WHY the yeah yeah yeahs played last???
i would be shy and feel inconfortable to ask sonic youth to play first part!
they have 20 years of music experimentation!
the yyy were energique but just a good influence of different music and have 2 albums..
maybe it's the album sale.. whatever. i had a good time.

L'ENFANT, Jean Pierre et Luc Dardenne, belgium, 2005, 9/10

i like alot the dardenne brothers. they know how to film humans. the filming is natural, a l'epaule.
the light natural and only one little scene contain music. even during the generique there is silence.

it's a movie observation. i liked the story alot. realistic and you can believe in it even if it's big.

unfortunatly i just watched 4 dardenne..at the store i don't have the old movies..
would like to be in mtl right now and go to la boite noire!

SYNOPSIS:

To turn things back in another direction - Tom Waits did the narration for my friend Noam's documentary "Waiting For Twilight" - [ imdb.com ] - from all reports he's an awesome guy.

He's also pretty entertaining in Short Cuts and Down By Law... not to mention playing Renfield in Coppola's Dracula.

you didn't told me that about this film!haha!wow, your friend must be happy to work with tom waits!..
he is so cinematographique! your friend say if it was easy to work with him?

i checked also the link for his movies.. have u seen all what he did? this one : Hey, Happy! interest me alot!

the synopsis (seem funny~!) :

-DJ Sabu's overactive libido leads him into teenaged pregnancy. His mythic quest for two thousand boys ends with Happy, a paranoid UFO-ologist to whom aliens promise to appear (as his love child). Spanky is an evil hairdresser trying to foil Sabu's mission, he is the self-proclaimed 'biggest bitch in the world.' The action unfolds at a series of raves on old garbage hill in an industrial Antonioni landscape peopled with characters right out of vintage John Waters..

i really have also to watch these guy maddin films..

i wanted to take down by law the other day but change my mind..for soon probably..jarmush make good movies..not all my fav..but he def. make very nice work. i didn't watch his coffee and cigarettes of 1986...only the 2003 one..

that's funny things about coffe and cig 2003:

- This film was made over a 17-year period. The Roberto Benigni and 'Steven Wright' segment was filmed in 1987. The Tom Waits and Iggy Pop segment was shot in 1992.

- As Jim Jarmusch, together with Tom Waits and John Lurie, is a member of the Lee Marvin look-alike club "Sons of Lee Marvin", a portrait is hanging over Meg and Jack White during the "Tesla" section.

- Tom Waits improvised his excuse for being late for his rendezvous with Iggy Pop. In it he explains that he had to perform "roadside surgery" to deliver a baby in the back of a car. Waits is known for toying with journalists and is fond of altering his place of birth (barn, elevator, etc.). In one such interview he claimed to have been born in the back of a taxi cab.

- Because they are very health-conscious, RZA and Genius/GZA do not drink coffee. So they are drinking tea in the film.

- Jim Jarmusch usually took no more than two to three takes for each scene in this film, in which most actors improvised parts of the conversation.

- In the "Delirium" segment, RZA is wearing a cap that says "Ghost Dog: Way Of The Samurai". Jim Jarmusch directed Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai (1999) too, and RZA produced the soundtrack for it.

think i'm gonna watch it again soon..

EATEN ALIVE, by tobe hooper, 1977, usa, 6/10

sometimes happen that you have in your child memory a very scary souvenir of a movie.
and when you watch now.. you just think that's so boring and bad. desapointed.
the scene are repetitive. i don't like the acting either. funny to see Robert Englund(fredy..) at his debut..

but i liked the light and the yellow effect on the image..

SYNOPSIS :

Judd runs the Starlight Hotel out in some sort of swampy place, and is unfortunately a few slices short of a loaf. He has a crocodile conveniently placed on the other side of the front porch railing. The croc will eat just about anything, as the hapless guests of the hotel find out soon enough. A reformed hooker, an unlucky family, and the father and sister of the hooker all suffer various rates of attrition as Judd tries to implement damage control.

* some of hooper i like some other don't... there is a list that i saw and like of him...

- The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974)
- Salem's Lot (1979)
- Invaders from Mars (1986)
- The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 (1986)

he seem to like crocodile! i didn't see his movie crocodile of 2000? anyone saw it?
in the section entertaining lake placid was not that bad.?

HENRY: PORTRAIT OF A SERIAL KILLER, by John McNaughton, 1986, usa, 9/10

I like so much this movie... it's the only one from this director that i like..(he made wild things and mad dog and [ www. ]

this movie, have alots of good qualities and bad.. some of the scenes are chef-doeuvre some other not.. the shot showing dead imobile body is very great..i like how they work the soundtrack for these scenes.. with only one track, noise of the murder..

but i thought they push the sound effect too far when they re-take their idea for a outside scene..it's too distanciation!

some scenes are awfull! in particular when Tracy Arnold (Becky) monologue... i don't like her..she play with my nerves and all along the movie i just wish she gonna die faster..and it's never come!

Michael Rooker impress me as a psycho..(well being no emotion can be hard!haha!)
he don't push too much and stay natural. his partner in crime otis (Tom Towles) is very convaincant.

it's not very gory but extremely violent. they are very trash and enjoy themself.. that's for sure.

I totally second that...

onto another film genre that I'm not sure has been explored...animation/fantasy/kid's movies... ...it's just 'cause I watched Hoodwinked (CG family film about the "true story" of little red riding hoo), which was decent, and the ShootingStar thread somehow got into the NeverendingStory, which , I think, we all remember and love... ...you see I like films that are loved my children and enjoyed by stoners... ...like the NightmareBeforeChristmas, which is a modern classic (as is anything by TimBurton).
