hehehe I totally agree. He is extremely annoying and his pictures are not relevant to the scene. It's only about the young gurls...

The first time I ran into him and his camera (a few years back) I gave him the nastiest dirty look and he turned around with his camera and harassed the next chick... Phew, I'm not under 22 anymore, so he doesn't bother me.

His video was terrible... made everyone in it look bad... I also remember refusing to give my 2 cents when he was going around.

There was no chillroom.

Having room to dance was awesome! Been to that venue so many times when it was packed, urgh. Although, I must add I showed up at 6am, so I wasn't surprised to have room to dance :p

The VJ was the best I've seen in a long time!! Very cool stuff. The paintings were a bit over the top Hindu, but very nice nonetheless :)

I also agree that the shirt shouldn't only represent the psy scene but try to encompass all that is [ rave.ca ] I would also like something more than just the [ rave.ca ] neon logo. Seems like a tall order. I'm no artists, I am sure a creative person(s) can come up with a few concepts. There could also be more than one t-shirt, like 5 versions. Like the [ rave.ca ] on the back with a different picture on the front representing the different scenes...

I understand what you mean about trance... Although my way of falling into trance is by getting really focused on my technique to the point where I can't even think about what I'm doing but simply doing it. But yeah, we all have our ways I guess.

I just feel a bit offended by someone saying it's impossible to dance to a whole style of music. Sounds kinda dumb and closed-minded. I've seen some amazing dancers shake it to all kind of music, dubstep included.

fine, just don't mix me up with the who actually said it was impossible to dance to.

and I toally agree that you can get into trance from being so involved with technique. It has happened to me while doing homework, writing an essay or writing out chemical reactions, at some point you get so into it that it just flows right out of you.

I mean it doesn't look like dancing because he ain't following with the beat. His motions are not flowing either. I've seen that style performed many times over, and many are able to make it flow with the beat, show come kind of connection between the movement and the music.

I've also seen many African dance styles, and I don't get it, as in the movements are not native to the way my body would flow, although I can see the connection between the beat and the movement. That's dancing.

Mindless bouncing on the same spot is an excellent way to enter a trance, repetitive motion, until the all the fluids in your body sway at the same rhythm, then you take off, eyes roll back, you only hear the cosmic sound, no more music, you mind shuts down all you feel is your inner being. Some what like mediation, just entirely different at the same time.

I more often than not dance with my arms and every body part, although I am guilty of trancing.

I am still wondering why psyrenity name was put between all that text. I figured it was some private quarrel that only a few witnessed...

It is always better to act rather than to react...

Ashigaikha reaction was violent and uncalled for, instead of expressing the ideals he is trying to express through his art, he lashed out because the ego was threatened. Art is art, I don't think it needs to be defended by the artist or otherwise, there is so much crap out there that I think is but ugly, but at the same time it doesn't matter because art is an expression and it doesn't have to be beautiful. As soon as you tapped into the feeling embedded into the art you understand why it looks the way it does. Of course there are idiosyncricities in every interpretation, but that doesn't make it less valid.

I love psytrance parties and I too have struggled with the ideologies put forth by the community. Without giving specific examples, I often see people talking all zen but acting gangster like (stealing, lying, betraying). I am not saying this doesn't happen in other milieu, I am just saying that I understand the frustration that one can feel from always seeing images that invite devotion while most of the attendees are stoned off their asses. There does seem to be a disconnect.

It's like every time I meet a metal head, or a goth and go to their house and see that their room is full of teddy bears and mama does their laundry. There are fake people every where. And I've recently decided not to bother. We all work out our issues one by one, and in time we will know who we truly are. I believe you can only really get to know yourself from the way you acted in various situations, you never know how you are going to handle a situation up until it's too late and you've acted. In this thread, Ashigaikha learned something, as we all did. I agree with yoshin, Moloch, your not helping, although I don't believe you wanted to anyways.

my two cents, but I'll accept a penny (for my thoughts).

Not sure I'd call what Tiny Love does dancing... that's more a performance, I forget what the style is called.

Not sure you need to know HOW to dance to dance to anything. Dancing is wtv movement the music makes you wanna do. And some types of musics just don't invite some booty to boogie.

Obviously, there are dance techniques, what professional dancers learn, and I am sure some of them have a hard time dancing to all styles.

it's less technical, but he is actually flowing with the music.

This thread touched on many of the key issues in the psytrance scene, I've heard this conversation play out several times over. It seems to boil down to taste and preference. Each promoter and deco artists has a predetermined idea on how to reach "enlightenment" or whatever experience they wish to impart through their work and it sometimes clashes with the other crew members and what party-goers' idea of a rave experience is (to them).

Psychedelics have a long romantic history with spiritualism, untangling the love affair seems futile and unnecessary.

I was often flustered by the pseudo-spirituality pandemic in the psy-scene, but one fine day I realized I was judging and that we all find out way through life one way or another. In the end, you gotta take some and you leave some.

Lately, it's been progressive playing in the morning!

I prefer morning trance over progressive trance in the morning hands down. Something groovy and very funky Secret Vibe is an nice example. A style to finish off the night that keeps you in trance while gently pulling out back to your surroundings. While, progressive is repetitive which would seem conducive to trance, for me every track sounds the same, it's the same beat with different bells and whistle, causing boredom which kills the trance.

When I go out to psy-rave I dance from the minute I'm there to the minute I leave for the this reason I like it when the hard beats turn into funky beats, a bit like what Yoshin said "...the dark psy is soooooo awesome at the right time, it tears your brain to pieces :) and melodic psy puts it back together is a harmonic way" I find it hard to trance all night just to be ripped out of it by music that doesn't flow from the previous style. And progressive always kills it (for me).

I must admit something like human blue or etnica would sound very similar to the night time music if the night was very psy-goa like, but if it came after dark psy and harder beats like that it would sound very different while keeping the flow (the wave motion of a trance) that progressive just doesn't do.

I for one don't go out every weekend, I rarely go out, less than once every 2 months... I'm a full time university student that goes to 50% of the events sober... give your opinion but don't judge people you don't even know. I also listen to a lot more classic rock than psy. My ears are always fresh but I do listen to enough psy to tell the different styles apart. Moreover, there is generic psytrance, just like pop music and alternative...! and when it's generic is sounds all the same, and it sucks, that's what I am bored of.

I for one am pretty sick of hearing the generic psytrance, no matter how good it is. And you'd be surprise what people dance too, I've seen people go all out on ambient (and for the most part there was no drum beat i.e, not world beat, it was ambient), they swayed the whole time and contact danced.. although for that to work, the time slots have to be strategic. It's all about the time slots... you can play almost any type of electronic music, as long as it fits one after the other.

I've always felt sick after partying at 3810 st-Patrick. The first time I went I said something was off with the place, I didn't feel well, my bf points to the floor and explained the condition of the building. And with each time I went back I would sick sooner and sooner. I don't mean dramatic sick, just not well, like having a mild allergy attack, just uncomfortable and often have to go out for air. I usually smoke at parties and I rarely do when I am there, can't even smoke a j.

On a more positive note, I've been dreaming of a prog and psy event forever, and I missed it!!! Had an essay to hand in yesterday (and got one more). I do hope, you guys will put another one together!! Congrats on an amazing party (which I hear it was, and the comments confirm it)! Keep it coming :)

did anyone notice that in Europe prog-psy is called psy-gressive, or is prog-psy just the french term?

I don't produce music and thus do not know any terms per say, although I did enjoy your track. I don't know what it would sound like in big speakers. It can sound completely different from listening to it at home after producing it and than in a big system at a rave. It often has to do with mastering (and other things I don't know the term for), and trust me I know, my bf produces psytrance. It's hard work and a whole learning process. Your track has many elements I like to see in a psy track, you have the trance gene ;) Practice makes perfect.

with all this LSD talk I got curious, and took a little break from homework to find some peer reviewed journal articles...

So, someone is trying to find a way to detect LSD, although they seem to be far from an applied method...
Title: Optimization of the separation of lysergic acid diethylamide in urine by a sweeping technique using micellar electrokinetic chromatography
Author(s): Fang, C; Liu, JT; Lin, CH
Source: JOURNAL OF CHROMATOGRAPHY B-ANALYTICAL TECHNOLOGIES IN THE BIOMEDICAL AND LIFE SCIENCES Volume: 775 Issue: 1 Pages: 37-47 Published: JUL 25 2002
Times Cited: 13

Title: Detection of metabolites of lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD) in human urine specimens: 2-oxo-3-hydroxy-LSD, a prevalent metabolite of LSD
Author(s): Poch, GK; Klette, KL; Hallare, DA, et al.
Source: JOURNAL OF CHROMATOGRAPHY B Volume: 724 Issue: 1 Pages: 23-33 Published: MAR 5 1999
Times Cited: 18

looking at old research I found some interesting titles (back when parapsychology was still cool)
Mescaline, lysergic acid diethylamide and psilocybin comparison of clinical syndromes, effects on color perception and biochemical measures
Hollister LE, Hartman AM
1962

Modification of autistic behavior with LSD-25.

Ditman KS, Moss T, Forgy EW, Zunin LM, Lynch RD, Funk WA
1969

LSD and chromosomes. A controlled experiment.
Tjio JH, Pahnke WN, Kurland AA
1969

A paradigm for the study of altered states of consciousness.
Silverman J
1968

Characterizing the psychological state produced by LSD.
Katz MM, Waskow IE, Olsson J
1968

The effect of psychotomimetics on therapist--patient matching of speech "rhythms".
Natale M, Dahlberg CC, Jaffe J
1979

Subject expectancy and environmental factors as determinants of psychedelic flashback experiences.
Heaton RK
1975

L-5-hydroxytryptophan for LSD-induced psychosis.
Abraham HD
1983

the list goes on, as time progresses the research becomes more and more specialized in mechanism rather than subject experiences.

and another three interesting titels

J Psychoactive Drugs. 1985 Oct-Dec;17(4):247-56.
LSD hallucinations: from ergot to electric kool-aid.
Siegel RK.

Psychol Today. 1977 Nov;11(6):92-94+.
The CIA's electric kool-aid acid test.
Szulc T.

Lancet. 1972 Apr 29;1(7757):948-52.
Medical aspects of large outdoor festivals.
Schlicht J, Mitcheson M, Henry M.

I suppose it is all useless, just a nice demonstration of the progression of research with LSD, or is it a regression... My university doesn't have a medical department which reduces the access to this type of research papers. Maybe over the summer I will get trigger happy and do a serious hunt and acquire these documents.

I could only get access to one article... called Canddyflipping haha, where they administered MDMA and LSD to rats to investigate the effects on the serotonergic receptors.

back to my less interesting end-of-semester hwk assignment: does facebook affect academic performance *rolls eyes* anything can fuck your shit up, it's called lack of self-control.

which is my cue
