I must say Spore was an amazing party and far surpassed my expectations. This was a true representation of how the Montreal scene has evolved in terms of locallly produced music.
Everyones set was tight. I'm very impressed and I hope this inspires our established artists to collaborate as well as intrigue new comers into starting to produce their own music.

Parties like this are like a house of cards ready to collapse at any given moment ..
Big respect to Etienne, Pat, Matt, and Ote for holding it all together !
The concept of this event really pushes our local artists forward and there should be a sequel !!

PS Good look with the broken toilet and graffiti :D

And I also want to add that .. Ann Marie's decorations were the best she's done so far. Very nice.

That was completely off the hook, amazing music, amazing smiles, glowing flowers, everything. There was so much love put into it, and in dancing for almost 10 years I can't believe this was the first all-live event I've gotten to experience! My eyes were burning by the end of it from the cigs and smoke machines lol. And my jacket is going to have to go through a few washes to get the smell out. But it was worth it, goggles and a plastic bag for my coat next time ^.^ Wow beautiful party that I'll remember forever.

awesome event, talent is not lacking in Montreal at all. I personally would have had the line-up slightly different given the 'experience' factor but I totally understand the reasoning behind why things were that way. Sound was great, deco was cool even without the typical painting, which I did kinda miss. My only complaint was the smoke, my throat and eyes were already hurting at midnight! I don't know if it was the smoke machine or cigs or the combination but I SO understand why bars ban that shit now. maybe I'm gettin' old :P
also, what was uo with not having water bottles after 2am, did that get resolved?

Good job!

I'm feeling <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 right now..

I'm feeling love la vie !! right now..

what an amazing party!
i love the fact that sketchy labs & digital garden always comes up with original concepts and themes for their parties.
the vibe was amazing, the dancefloor was packed, the music kept me dancing till the wee hours of the morning. haven't done that in a while.
Great big up to the promoters, who joined forces and invested a great deal of time and effort to make this happen.
Great headliners, and congrats for brinking mekkanikka to Canada for the first time ever!
With local artists being so talented, Montreal is sure to cough up something big soon enough.
Once again thanks guys. spore was AMAZING <3
Can't wait for the next one

Alright so first off I'd like to thank everyone who came out with smiles on and made the party what it was :)

I'd also really like to thank everyone that helped out with the set-up and taking down at the end, and also to all the people who worked during the evening. I don't feel like naming everyone for fear of forgetting someone, but you all know who you are, and it was greatly appreciated.

All the live acts were amazing, I'm really excited to see all the talent coming out of Montreal. Big things are in store for us that's for sure.

Now that that's been said I'd like to put one stupid thing into light about my live. There wasn't really a huge "mastering" issue with it. What happened was that near the end of Mekkanikka's set there was a huge bass drop which really pissed of John (the venue owner) so he came out and forced us to lower the sound. I literally had to physically fight him off the mixing board. You have NO FUCKING IDEA how much it hurts to work literally night after night for 4 months just trying to get your sound as good as possible for the event, to fail classes at university because your out all night looking for a new venue cuz you got fucked out of your first one, to only sleep 3 hours between thursday and sunday trying to put all of this together and then have the fucking sound lowered before your set; then having to keep a smile on watching people leave the dance floor.

Wtv...

Anyways here's a link to the track I used to open my live: [ soundcloud.com ] Listen to it and tell me honestly if you really think it's that bad; and if so let me know what I need to improve cuz it's hard to get good constructive criticism.

So all in all, despite the numerous things that tend to blow up in your face when your throwing an event, Spore was a success for us and has encouraged both Sketchy Labs and Digital Garden to continue throwing raves. To be completely honest this was only our second event, and boy did we learn a lot.

See you all at the next one.

kode six was def. a highlight for me, pure power wicked wicked set
and trippy deco, refreshing to have no BL posters for once

someone should clean up all the nasty mold in that room though, it gets thicker every time I go

it's not mold, it's oil residue. that's what the weird smell is...
i think that cleaning this is an expensive treatement... that oil has been there since forever, when this place was used for... i'm not sure what it was used for lol.

we were talking about this at the afterparty too. how good it would feel to chill on couches and not feel kind of grossed out by the whole thing...

probably one day the owner will invest in cleaning the place, and raise the price of renting the room so much that raves won't be able to afford it anymore, and it will be used for corporate boring events............

we'll find other places, we always do :)
I'm feeling inspired right now..

This party was one of the craziest things I think any of us (Etienne, Pat, Myself, or Ot) have done. It feels really amazing to have so many people tell us how much they enjoyed the party! We definitely pushed ourselves to the limit to make this event happen, and it wouldn't have been possible without all the amazing help we received.

Huge thanks to Anne Marie, Zoe Venus, Sylvain, Theo, Zven, Maggy Baba, Leah Dubkat, le deux Francis, Vincent (Virtual Light), Johnny Boy, Gabrielle, Yousef, and the many many more who I unfortunately didn't get to meet.

And of course, all the people who came to share the experience with us! Huge thanks.

The smell is what they treated the old wood brick floors with to bring them up to the fire safety code. The substance has since then been deemed toxic and removed from the market for that purpose. It wouldn't be toxic in the concentrations anyone would breathe in but it definitely is still there, proof is the smell.
Since the floors have been removed, the place is a lot cleaner, although I seriously don't know if the building still meets the fire safety code, I know for a fact it isn't certified to hold more than 100 or so people. But like Anne said, if they fix it up enough, it'll be out of our price range, so you take the good with the bad...

Technically the place has no capacity whatsoever as there are a couple of things completely against the fire code still, there not really obvious to firefighters off hand though, has something to do with the thickness of the doors and the width of the exit hallway.
