Galaksy, I'll hit you with an email soon. It feels as though it has been far too long since I have been back where my heart remains, the beloved city of Montreal. I am really looking forward to returning in March (I only wish that I were able to stay longer than a month).

What must be understood is that none of these people you see dressed as riot police chose to be where they are. South Korea, like North Korea, has a policy of conscription; this is because although combat operations ceased on July 27, 1953 when an armistice agreement was signed, the war itself was never officially declared over and the De-Militarized Zone (frequently known as the DMZ) which designates the border between North and South Korea has remained one of the heaviest armed stretches of land on the planet since the cease fire. The riot police are actually 18 and 19 year old boys who are told that they are soldiers and have absolutely no clue what they are doing and why they are doing it. I am not making excuses for their actions (far from it); rather I am trying to put those actions into perspective. What do you expect to happen when you arm teenagers?

Not surprisingly there is an abundance of brainwashing within the country (it is practically officially policy). How else could it be possible that the popular opinion here is that South Korea is actually the center of the universe? You would be amazed at how upset the average South Korean gets when they find out that this is not necessarily the case… or perhaps you wouldn’t if you knew how incredibly melodramatic South Koreans tend to be; it is not uncommon for people to immolate themselves during protests. Suicide is strangely considered to be more honourable than be taken captive. When the police do approach a building that is occupied by protestors, they do so armed with mattresses in a desperate attempt to soften the ground as the inevitable numerous protestors leap to their “honourable” doom.

This video is indeed horrific, and absolutely inexcusable behaviour from those who should supposedly be both serving and protecting, but the governing body, not the individual policemen (as women are not conscripted), are the problem. And they know it. Why else would the police boot camps be not unlike concentration camps? Why else would they subjugate these boys through means that are so incredibly inhumane that they seem like they have been taken from the pages of S & M magazines not police procedure manuals? [ ] Click here to read about time-honoured traditions used to ensure that the police remain obedient. This is merely a fraction of the story.

the local was to say the least beautiful...

big open spaces, upstairs, down stairs and nice bathrooms...

the thing that intrigued me from the begining of the story of 2005 summer drum and base (breaks,) denoument was how was staba would make this idea of his into a reallity, he wanted to do a party with one room with 20-25 peoples playing each for about 15-20mins, i thought to myself, how is he going to make this work, wont this be nothing but hassels? i was sure staba was gonna kill someone by the end of the night, you know like some dumb ass who is late for his set or someone who bitches about the length or something, but none of that happened everything went off like clock work with no problem or disorderly activity,

every body was all like 'this will never work Mike,' beforhand, and he was just like shrugging and shit, be all like 'well, we can find a way to make it work,'\
and so he (they) did...

i had a blast i cannot remember a Dnb and Jungle event that i have enjoyed this much, the party was so good that actually came back after i initially jetted to go home, something i rarely if ever do...

all i have to say to mike (et al) is you deserve the most masive of respect for your masive, once again you have furnished the people with another spring classic in the great traditions that we all strive represent...

i have two negative things to say

first
MCs:

although the quality of MCs at parties has definetly improved over the years, something needs to be said, enough with the MCs who make zero sense on the mic, stop just mumbling some bulshit behind the dex thats not even anything worth listening to, this MCing the true sound of the culture, you must tell the stories, you must be the new poetry in motion, it is you who put this into words for all to hear and know, this is certainly 'a disco adventure...',
start thinking more in terms of lyrics and hooks and chorus, and less in terms of performance and stamina, you don't have to be spitting every second to know your good...here is something you might consider ask who ever is playing to turn down the two other channels just a bit, so you can have some breadth over the music...too many MCs, all screaming at the tops of their lungs, you have to learn to be silky soft and stylish with your rap otherwise its no fun its just you being angry...

second:
'La scene'

everybody talks about what the 'scene' is and how we should be all 'conserving' it cause its going away, nobody more soo than 'drumandbacers', i can't help but remark on the number of long faces at the jam, like cats thinking this gonna be the last jam ever...when did we all become some 'end of the world crew' you know like everything was all ending, how did fall begin before spring this year...?

i don t know what is this scene that we talk about, where does it exist if at all, i know that i have a bunch of friends that i go out and get all sloshed with every couple of weeks is that 'the scene'?

i think when you guys talk about you 'scene' your basicaly talking about the political and social ramification of modern association which derives itself of unique cultural manifestation.

all i m trying to put my fingure on when i say these things is some trepidations i have when i see things like to much camo clothing, guys/girls treating guys/girls like peices of meat, and too much cocaine and money flying arround

when did this shit stop being about records...

'narrow is the gate for fat tapes and dub plates'

i'm scared of this quasi militarism/wanna be radicalism that circulates amongst us, i feel like some of us don 't really understand what they are dealing with and are playing with things they don't understand (and are dangerous) like fake nationalism rooted in arbitrary and restricting communitarianism, remember it does not matter what crew you rep, you are all citizens of this world and will be treated accordingly...I feel like we devide our selfs up more through this shit than anything else, from this springs forward our disaggrement founded in the natural conflict between individual interest. Before you go of and make your self a paramilitary unit in the jungle (city) you may want to read some books about this shit before you do it...

it comes down to this

'you say goodbye
and i say hello

hello
hello

i don't know why you say goodbye
i say hello

hello
hello....'

again respect to Mikey and the gang
:)

The last time that Clint was in Montreal, it was because he was supposed to play at Junglist Fridays. Unfortunately Blue Dog was closed that weekend as per a court order as per illegal alcohol being sold a year prior. Being the renegade party promoters that we are, MayDay, Sami, and myself brought it upon ourselves to relocate the party because as they say, "the show must go on"...

I was going to continue on in my usual verbose manner as to the goings on on that particular evening, but as few people actually attended said event (and for the most part those that did demanded to get in for free), I'm sure that no one is still reading.

It is about a senseless challenge to fisticuffs by someone who has "been in 15 street fights" and for some reason seems intent in continuing this shameful trend of male bravado, hidden under the guise of an all encompassing dislike for the genre of electronic music known as “trance”.

The Pound was where Asphalt Jungle II was held.

Truly the greatest now defunct party venue was 62 Rachel; act like you know.

What is it that exactly constitutes an "afterhours" venue? Is it because the municipal government (or some other similarly shifty organization) turns a blind eye to the obviously dubious legality of the goings on wherein? Essentially what this is proposing is that it is okay to break the law as long as you have been granted the appropriate permit to do so; anyone interested in a license to kill?

When choosing a venue in which to host an "afterhours" event, I always pay attention to fundamental characteristics which I believe a venue should at the very least possess thus ensuring a high level of safety and security for my patrons. In this not exhaustible list, these elements include: functional toilets (more than one is always a bonus); cold running water (I’ve actually been to a few parties where the promoter turned off the cold water so as to promote water sales, that is tantamount to attempted murder in my eyes); and enough fire exits to which patrons may always find a clear path.

Because of which, I would never do my patrons the injustice of hosting an event in a venue such as L-Corridor which, if you have half a brain you could easily see, was always a fire-hazard waiting to happen. I recall being in that basement once when the power went out while Dr. Noh was playing; I can tell you that I immediately froze and said a silent prayer that no one panicked as surely chaos would ensue. The drummer kept on drumming and soon the power returned with little to no cause for alarm; truly it is only a matter of time before our luck runs out. As I understand it, the Montreal rave community (and please correct me if I am wrong) has yet to suffer a directly party related death; I hope that is not what it will take in order for promoters to collectively smarten up?

Partiers should not patronize the events of promoters who have anything less than the partiers’ best interests in mind. Promoters should always do their very best to afford their patrons the highest level of comfort within their means; I would never host a party that I would not feel comfortable patronizing.

Of note, among those physical elements previously listed, promoters should also take the care to provide a quality sound system. Ask anyone who suffers from tinnitus; [ www.moviewavs.com ] is not fun.
