Let me tell you that this is very much frowned upon. Firstly, those vinyl rips sound like crap, so not only are you doing a disservice to the artist by not paying for their music and playing inferior quality versions of their tunes, but you're also doing a huge disservice to yourself. To me, it's blatantly obvious that these are not legit 320k mp3s. The tracks sound like shit (especially live on a rig coming out of serato or torque with various stages of compression).

Regarding unreleased tracks, if you're going to be a d'n'b pirate and use deepbassnine or soulseek, don't flaunt it, keep it to yourself. After a certain 20+ page doa thread with over 20,000 views, this city is now officially the laughing stock of the international d'n'b community.

There has to be some sort of oversight or quality control. I'm sick of people being praised for churning out total amateurish crap. The sad thing is, most listeners don't seem to know the difference.

I'm not going to mention names, those who engage in these activities know who they are. Take this as a warning. If I see mixes posted on here with stolen/unreleased/illegal tunes, I will call you out.

Unfortunately, there aren't many shortcuts to achievement. Hard work, perseverance, and solid networking are the keys to success in this game.

totally agree w/ you..

i work for a music label.. can you believe that the other day i started a thread for a new record release and someone very disrespectful posted a fucking torrent of it?

danmmm i couldn't believe it. what a loser!

i know tones of international artists and their opinion is pretty much all the same on the subject...

and labels and people working for labels have an excellent memory..

if you do something like that to me or my artists, i'll remember your fucking name and you better never ever hope i'll push your productions or your name...

it doesn't seem like it but the industry is not that big and music genre aren't that much of a barrier... people talk.... believe me.

like this time,(i'm not that mean, ill not drop name..) i was backstage at this italian event and just for fun me and other acts were talking bs about the loser from our respective hometown...

well can you believe that some people there from all over europe have already ear what i was bringing up about this loser local dj from mtl..

so ya if you want respect from artists and people working in that area you better give respect as well...

ps: whatever everybody have their opinion on the matter and i still respect my friends who think differently... but still.. that's mine and i feel strongly about it.

oh! and btw... at the label i work, we are proud to pay fees for licensing for samples or royalties in case of cover songs...

so it's not true that all label stole shit from other artists to make their own success..
I'm feeling hitched right now..

ehaheaheah btw Betty nobody knows that you are working for a label since you post a shitloads of different links and Im not studying you so i have no idea :P and like i said (in private)
most ppl will go check for the link! (they just wont tell you) if you rather live in a hypocritical world where at the end of the day you wonder why the money is not coming in ....

also i wanted to take it off but it was too late [ RAve.ca ] doesnt allow it sorry!

so basically by telling people are loser for downloading torrent is like the MPAA or RIAA saying you should get fined($$$) for downloading tracks! yeah but were a small industry and were poor! (maybe its a sign of bad promotion or disloyal fans! dont get me wrong id rather buy most of this stuff !but where the fuck in montreal could i get this ???? NOWHERE thats where!

so yeah if you wanna help out try to get your product in a store in montreal and ill make sure to go everyweek buying dvd HXC Tshirts and whatever you guys have interesting.

i <3 hardcore and I use to buy a lot of it in montreal at BUNKERS and CLAIR OBSCURE!
bring it back and they will come!!!!!!!!!!!!

with love yours truly APRIZM! :P

ps: here is a link maybe we should all read : [ creativecommons.org ]

dude... quit being a smart ass w/ me already...

you going to tell me that you can't buy stuff online like everybody else?! danmmmm

oh and i don't ask people to "study me"... i'm not that interesting.. but it's quite obvious that i'm working for ISR since years duhhhh are you retarded? do you think i would lose my time doing press kit, promo threads and music video ....etc.... just for fun?!(well it's plenny of fun..)

but... wow.

oh! and ISR is doing it since fucking 20 years so really thanks but we still have people who encourage our efforts and buy their stuff...

i mean c'mon who would take proud by stilling an independent label.... jebus! mais je reve ou quoi?!

anyway i really don't think my point is hard to get at all. you just feel stupid and lame for yourself and try to find excuses...

oh... and you talk about disloyal fan... sorry but we don't consider fans those people who stole our shit.. real fan and real fan of music buy their stuff, take time to find la creme de la creme... and actually know and support their music...

whatever... i don't think i will change your opinion... just never do that again in one of my threads please.

Having worked for indie and major record labels and currrently working as an exec for a label, I get all my music for free, delivered to my office.
I'm feeling tipsy for prez 2009 right now..

Seem to me like the problem isnt so much the fan's but the Producers and the label employees themselves. You cant blame a dj for doing his research or a fan for liking a shitty version, but you can blame whoever is leaking the sub-par musical products.

ps: oh and btw it's not the job of an artist to start shit or tell their opinion but people who manage their music and career.

Actually labels are pretty much becoming charities. If you get released they're pretty much doing you a favor. Publishing, on the other hand, is a totally different story.

Theres gotta be a better way of making money with music than trying to convince peoples that the song they just downloaded for free is worth 2-3$.

Back in the days, you would get a physical record with a sleeve and artwork for about that price. A lot went into the production of a record: Musicians, studio time, promo, distribution...
Things have changed, studios have become obsolete, the physical medium has disappeared and the traditional selling points are all going under.
Production and exploitation costs have gone way down and everyone knows it. Business as usual just wont cut it.

I agree totally.. Maybe give some incentive for people to shell out for the tunes? Sure, the die-hard fans are going to buy it, but what about the average person that can just torrent the tunes they want?

For example, the Warp 20 year box set: [ warp.net ]

There's not even a tracklisting for it.. How many thousands do you think have been pre-ordered already? Price vs. Content, you're getting an absolute steal!

Music could be marketed like porn, couldn't it? By selling day/month/yearly subscriptions that give you access to artwork, pix, mix's, tracks, remixes, ringtones, samples, whatnot...

The porn industry has undergone many of the same challenges that the music industry is going through, and cum out on top. they must be doing something right.

seriously.. I see way more porn put up on porn torrent sites than I do music on music torrent sites every DAY by at least 4:1! But the porn industry is booming! And it's not like the shit is cheap either.. sure 15$/month subscription for getting it online, but the DVDs are like $40+ new for a single 2-hour fuck-flick!
I'm feeling like a drama magnet right now..

One difference being that the porn industry has to always stay fresh, whereas music labels still spend a lot of energy trying to push music/artists that were recorded years/decades ago.
