Do you guys think Big artists ( not the ones 2-3 of you seem to be defending to death )are downloadable without remorse?
because ive read something along those lines in a few replies...
At what point can people share your music for free without it bein disrespectful ?

ps: dont ever go Russian or asian street markets ... you will find out downloading music aint shit compared to what they do ! they clone complete product and sell them for a lower price! DVD,MUSIC,TSHIRTs even HANDBAGS wallets etc! i think its awesome! it helps them eat and its somewhat of a job for them to do ! *more power to the whole ! fuck the individual!*

(wow this coffee is kicking in this morning)

dude the fake markets in asia are out of this world, they employ literally hundreds of thousands of people...

what i think is really funny about this phenomenon of producers becoming anal about the free music thing is that for every other media it's ok for them to rip it off, if you really believe that it's wrong then be consistent, stop downloading episodes of south park and make sure that copy of windows on your computer is legal, if not SHUT YER PIE HOLE!!!

thank you, that is all.
I'm feeling surly right now..

indeed :)
btw, south park authors wish the episodes to be freely available on the net... they're "illegal" only because of this stupid concept of copyright and big businesses that make money off the artists.

seriously, who's the stupid asshole who invented the concept of copyrights and patents ?!

PS : ok i checked it, this was just a rhetorical question...

the idea behind copyrights and patents is solid, basically it keeps people's interest in the right place as if someone couldn't be sure their idea would actually benefit them, they might not produce anything at all, however, I realize now that all this does is reward greed... :\

exactly... copyrights protect art, and art is not for sale... it's part of culture, which is not something we should put money into... (in my opinion!)

Ok this was badly phrased... my bad.
I meant that culture is necessary and has to be supported by the State, but that it's not something which should be seen as a product for sale, nor with a capitalist eye ; I mean, not by associating a monetary value to culture and introducing competition in it.

My 2 cents, i pay for ALL MUSIC....Downloading, Vinyls, cd's and so on......My view is that if u can't afford it DON"T DO IT...But the love of music is what keeps everyone going if u have no money(been there done that).

So in the long run if u can afford maybe one or two tracks buy em cause u r stealing the music all the time and a bit of pay back is cool....not sure if that makes sense but i think that u should pay it forward a bit if u r able to. Music costs money, money to make it, money to play it and so on and so forth....So give a little get a little....BUT PLAY ON!!!!!

Problem is, gov wont give producers money to pay for the bills... so djs have to pay so producers can pay the bills... but then promoters wont pay djs enought to pay for records... cuz people really like paying as little as possible to get into a club... cuz they broke

so... wtf? we keep doing this shit for the love i guess? gonna have a hard time stopping anyways... thing is lot of people on every level do this shit for the love so at least we get to share the pain of our addiction

In my view, everybody's a (potential) artist, and there shouldn't necessarily be "full-time artists" getting all the money they have from their art... I mean, not as it is right now. Music and other arts are part of culture, like education and science; how come education is free and schools get millions invested in scientific equipment, but nothing for art ? That's simply because there's a competition between nations and states, and because the world has been at war since the dawn of time... and science can get you weapons, medicine, architecture, etc.; whereas art, according to how the "main" societies of the world evolved so far, can't get anything "useful" in that view of war/competition/protection from nature/...

The thing is that art needs science: building instruments, making paint, getting multimedia technology, etc. But I also think that science needs art, and that it's really not something anchored in the mind of "rich and prosperous" societies, nowadays (I'm not saying that was the case before, either).

I just think culture should get its right place alongside science. It's not an easy balance to do with the current society, I agree. Science comes from the brain, art comes from the heart; and today, having a brain is clearly regarded as much more important than having a heart, in our society. I think both are as important, and that the balance should come from there.

So, let's come back a little to the topic of this thread (yeah I guess you think I'm ranting off-topic, by now)... what I mean is that music should get its place in our education and public expenses from the State. I know it's not easy nowadays to do music, because it costs money to buy instruments and equipment, to produce records, and to set up shows... but all these costs can really be reduced, seriously; and not only from allowing more funding from the State, but also by doing all this in the idea of sharing, and not profiting.
The costs are important because everybody tries to get their monetary profit at each stage of the process, but really, everybody would get more in the end if the idea of sharing between everybody was put before any money... and I'm not talking about the "worth" of everyone's job in this process, here. Just look at the free parties, and try to feel how art is often much more beautiful when done spontaneously and freely.
I'm feeling phd powa !!! right now..

as far as underground music goes - yep! a handful of people might be able to eke out a living doing it, but for the rest, it's a labour of love

when I started buying wax I had already resigned myself to that. I started sinking every penny into those records cuz I was fiending for em. I don't care if other people like em or not. I never expected to be playing them outside of my house - ever

I only play what *I* like, and I love playing for people. even just a few friends at an afterparty is great. I'd be doing it anyway, so every gig where I get to play for a crowd of great people is just a really nice bonus.

I'd be curious to know how much I've actually spent on records, shipping, and the long-distance calls getting stacks of dusty records in England played to me over the phone. I don't know what the grand total is, but it's a lot. not to mention all the time and work I put in to find what I was after. but I never expect any return on that. anybody who does is just delusional.

a lot of DJs.. they get into it chasing an image. they just wanna be rock stars, and they will suck the dick of the Devil to get status. so instead of being about the music, they're all about slick marketing, shameless self-promotion, inflated booking fees and atrocious ego.

fuck that.

some of my favourite DJs and producers that I would hear on pirate-radio tapes from London... to this day I don't even know what some of em look like. they weren't about looking cute in photo shoots - they were about pushing underground music. and the thing is.. even though some of em are in their 40s now with families, they're still at it

the real heads are the ones who do it for the love

honestly...
we've all stolen an mp3, burnt a c.d. or recorded a tape before...
but c'mon...
if your a dj who's not getting paid... thats your own bad management.
it definately doesn't give you the go ahead to steal from the ppl who are busting their asses to bring you the music you love.
and whats the deal with hating on the labels/ industry?
if it wasn't for the labels, distrobuters and stores who do in fact work FOR the artists, giving them an outlet to expose their music and promotional backing... YOU wouldn't be hearing 1% of it and wouldn't know it even exists.
and sorry to say it...
but even if its all digital these days... this still COSTS MONEY!!!
promotion costs money... mastering costs money... operating a store costs money... designing costs money... equipment cost money... copyright costs money... taxes cost money... bandwidth costs money... long distance phone calls cost money... samples cost money... studio time costs money... engineers cost money... even time costs money!!!
The list goes on and on... and even though with todays technology, anybody can "apparently" do most of that stuff themselves nowadays... if it wasn't for "the industry" thats supposedly the big bad guy here, getting their cut...
ALL those costs would be incurred by the artists directly and making music as we know it would become something strictly for the rich and elite.
and maybe i'm the only one who's noticed this already...
but the quality of music thats available in this HUGE AND MONEYLESS market... is... i hate to say it...
pretty fuckin' crap right now.
theres no rockstars anymore... at least not like there was 15-20 years ago anyway.
where are the ac/dc's of TODAY?
the beastie boys?
the janice joplins?
the garry numans?
the jimmy pages?
the axl roses?
the doors?
the chemical brothers?
the micheal jacksons?
the dj shadows?
I'm sorry... but nickel back and T-Pain just aren't cuttin' it for me...
and even though many of those artists above may still be doing shows and getting paid today...
the chances are they would have had to get day jobs back in those days and probably would have faded away if they didn't have some of that EVIL INDUSTRY money/ support to allow them to flourish as artists to bring you this bullshit "culture" of which many of you seem to think should operate solely on candy cane wishes and gumdrop dreams.
hate to say it...
but i really think this is a good part of the reason why our electronic music scene (not to mention just about every other music scene) is at an all time low point right now....
It all comes down to MONEY and the fact that you gotta give some to get some.
and please...
think about this a little bit before you write something stupid about how you know this guy... dj faggotchin or what ever who works a day job but is really talented at making quality tunes and does it just for the love... because sorry to say... but with out a lil payola in his pockets he's probably going to fade away and end up making a modest career working as an order clerk or a cruise ship musician, will probably never live up to his full potential as an artist and will definately never be a rockstar to the eyes of much more than his family, friends and couple of uber geeky music nerds who chances are... probably downloaded his album anyway.
So yeah...
you catch my drift...
fuck you all and have a nice day!!!
Murdock out!!!

I promise to take my cut... split it with the distro... and if we're lucky there might be enough left over at the end of the year for each of the artists buy themselves a mc value cheese burger and a pack of smokes...

i just dont give a fuck I copy all of your concerts and rave TICkETs too! fuck if i see you wearing cool clothes ill go home call china and have them made at a fraction of the price!

I so dont give a fuck that if anyones tells me anything about copyrights ill record his voice and sell it on the internet as a fucking ringtone!

im a really sweet person but I still think music is like science which has been dishonest for a few years thanks to the Pharmaceutical industry which if it wasnt so greedy we would probably have the cure for cancer and MCA wouldnt be in this mess !

seriously ppl dont be too aggressive towards filesharing! the more you push it the more it will be strong! also the next generation doesnt give a flying fuck about you and I so keep posting those RESPECT THE ARTISTS , MUSIC WILL DIE it HAZ NO effects whatsoever! yeah maybe your friends are nice to you in your face but they probably have all your songs on their computers (thank you piratebay)

here is a list of things that id still recommend paying for :

Movies (go to theatre its fucking awesome with Surround and IMAX )

2pack DVDS (sometimes its just faster to buy a 30-40$ double disc special edition + sometimes they give you collectors item

Blu RAY : fucking awesome quality + THE FEATURES mannnnn some blurays have awesome features

concerts : ( yeah even tho i said i copy tickets to piss u off i still pay for concert and i love it )

Tshirt ,Hoodies, bandanas : heahaeh no i wont call china to have them made ! i still rather buy it at the store (or the concert) and represent !

Xbox360 , ps3 : because i love playing games and i dont want to get banned on xboxlive network ehahea

My point is all these have one thing in common :... THEY ALL come from or is related to your Music!
once you understand the future of music you will stop whining and actually try to find who can help your business!

if you are a dj im sorry but get over it and start producing~! unless you are a crazy dj and people would pay to actually see you in concert . a dj could also work on games like DJ HERO! im serious this game use Mashup as song... so a dj could theoratically have some of his work on there too!

oh shit this post is way too long and it started so angry ehahaehea
I'm feeling analyzing charts right now..

Not what i meant u can play music and do whatever but the artist on the other side of this is poor too (probably) and trying to make a buck as well...So by stealing music constantly really disrupts the whole circle....Play where and when and how u like but put in the back of your head the artist that did that track (and that u r getting paid to play it) gets nothing when u steal it and probably is waiting to get paid so he/she can pay his/her bills too.....I know a handfull of artists good dj's and producers that have to have a job on the side to stay alive in this shit!!!

But no money no djing i play at home until i can buy more music and get my shit together i am not gonna play stolen music get paid and the artist gets ripped off....
