Yeah, it's a tough one I guess. Deadline is next friday (the 27th), so maybe an unproductive weekend ahead? The contest is "officially sanctioned" by Renoise now:

[ www.renoise.com ]

It's worldwide! You'll get some feedback/support from other Renoise users if you submit something. It's all in good fun aka the un-fun kind of fun?

I disagree.

There are a few demo songs included with the application. Have a listen to "Ride the lightning" and "Digging for gold" under the Help menu, which shows two radically different styles in the same application.

You can do anything with Renoise.

You can't, however, do it like you do in Logic or Cubase or Reason or Acid or whatever else.

This is a Renoise contest, the breaks part is secondary.

Have fun.

More tips: Check the included demo songs. Also, this guy (botb, netherlands, Because knows this guy) released a bunch of breakcore in XRNS format that can loaded up in Renoise and studied. His style is insane though (ridiculously fast BPM)

Atheist's Wager

A specific argument challenging the assumption that belief is rewarded is known as the Atheist's Wager. While Pascal suggested that it is better to take the chance of believing in a god that might not exist rather than to risk losing infinite happiness by disbelieving in a god that does, the Atheist's Wager suggests that:

You should live your life and try to make the world a better place for your being in it, whether or not you believe in God. If there is no God, you have lost nothing and will be remembered fondly by those you left behind. If there is a benevolent God, he may judge you on your merits coupled with your commitments, and not just on whether or not you believed in him.

All major religions that preach "hellfire" also preach exclusivity. So, the problem becomes _which_ god is supposed to be the correct one to _bet_ on. Also, There's no way to know if the risk is the _other_ way, that all people who believe without reason will experience the greatest suffering. Imagine a millennia-long intelligence test. God purposely set us up with ZERO evidence of his existence, got some flunkies to write a few Good Books and seed them around the planet, and then waited to see who would take the bait. Anyone that falls for a religion (any religion) is immediately sent to Hell because obviously they are mental defectives who are too stupid to go by the facts. Maybe it's the non-belivers, the ones who saw through the scam all along, and suffered horribly down the ages at the hands of the True Believers (remember, if you want to go to the Good Place you have to suffer while you're on Earth) who will (to their great and everlasting surprise) be admitted to Heaven. At which point, the Atheists will be believers because, well ... now they'll have some evidence, and they'll be able to believe in God without having to take it on "faith".

So this leads to Pascal's Wager , i.e. it's a safe bet to believe in a "general god" because there's no risk, and a lot to lose. But, if you don't believe in exclusivity, then there's no reason to believe in hell, either. I mean, why is it the most religious countries get hit with major earthquakes, flooding and tsunamis? Because they are being punished for workshipping the wrong god. Or, worshiping the right god in the wrong way. If there's one thing that god hates most it's betrayal. So, mayber everyone who worships a god goes to the severest depths of hell. Hence, maybe safest option is not believing, as the punishment is less severe.

Finally, if God is everywhere and infinite, that means that he includes everything. Ergo, if evil exists then it too must be part of God. This requires one of three conclusions, (a) God is not all good, (b) God is not infinite, or (c) evil doesn't exist.

I have other obligations but will show up late, for sure.

I can't say I went out as much as I would have liked but I did go out as much as was possible. You should start a sitcom called "Thursday Thirty Something."

Also, Steve and Rhys are pretty much the only maniacs that would have anything to do with Trotch, so for this I am very grateful.

The end of an era. Congrats, gentlemen. Funeral high fives all around!

Yeah, i had a great time. The line up was three of the best DJ's in town in terms of what I'm interested in.

Personally, it's tough for me to do thursdays. I'm one bitter old man. I can't bring a crowd. Hence, weather or not I'm there is moot. You can't expect friends to show up every time. It's just the way it is. Some restraint in deflating the hype in a forum where the core support of your endeavor reads (and not the random person of the street who would make the venue packed) might not be the best course of action.

All I'm saying is don't give up based one two events. You got something going that deserves a few more shots. Nothing wrong with going back to the drawing board and trying again.

Good luck guys.

Is the bar scene some sort of the special olympics where everyone is a winner? Is there some sort of mandatory socialist money exchange where you guys are the mandatory benefactors of people showing up based on you wanting them to? (i would support this, but that's another story...) You win some, you loose some. Man up, gentlemen. It's not sexy to bitch and moan, I don't go to events out of guilt, I go for fun.

I paid two covers, spun the wheel for two drinks, I stayed 20 minutes. The concept was rad, the music was rad, sorry I couldn't have stayed longer, but in terms of support, I was there. I don't want to be a dick, but what were you expecting? 500 people? A charity drive? I mean if you wanna run profitable sausage parties, more promo in the gay village is needed, or something. Otherwise I'm not too sure what else could have went off at this point in time for the target demographic. And you lost money, why wasn't the event done in a free venue? Or at least negotiated better? If you are gonna come out blazing the trail of terror with financial expectations, well, welcome to the world of Trotch I guess, thousands of dollars down the toilet, all the free names in the newspapers you can eat. You win some, you lose some.

Captain Obvious? Is that you? :)

Yeah, I know Adam X is techno and hardcore. But the link has mixtape covers that say "Underground Rotterdam House" so when I said "I'm pretty sure the rest of the world wasn't calling Adam-X circa 1991 house?" it was an observation on the mislabeling of the style since Adam X is on one of the mixtapes.

As Rotterdam is known for "Rotterdam" i.e. Gabber, these mixtapes are the historical root of that style.

I agree, funky it ain't.

Yeah, a script like that would be cool, you should contribute to the project.

Over the weekend I made some changes in the CVS for the XRNS randomzier script:

New features: Randomize modes based on scales, option to keep note octave.

Now the user can chose the following randomize algorithms:

* chaos
* shuffle
* harmonic_minor
* locrian
* lydian
* melodic_minor
* pentatonic_blues
* pentatonic_major
* pentatonic_minor
* pentatonic_netural

Windows users who want to help test can double click get_cvs_dev_version_scripts.cmd in XRNS-SF version 1.4. Others can check out the code using their CVS client of choice.
