I like the first version better.

The second version introduces Rocky horn stabs and mysterio chimes which has been done to death already by many others for many years. This is too cliché. And the context is quite sloppy. It's like you had a good stir fry going but you were bored so kept piling in the ingredients to entertain yourself, ruining dinner.

The first version has a really cool sub-bass intro, short and sweet, which leads to a heavy bass countdown and really cool sluggish drum patterns. It was foreshadowed, yet still unexpected. Then that heavy bass counts like 'for whom the bell tolls' and delivers a change at exactly the spot were you can't take it anymore. It got the finger point from me. The same note, over and over, but a change exactly when you are overwhelmed. That happens several times in the track, and delivered every-time. That was something to work with. That was the good stuff for me.

The new version puts that all to the back and says 'HORNS AND CHIMES! oh and this other stuff too...'

The first cut had finesse, the second one seems self-indulgent and out of context. Falls under 'No, no, what are you doing?!' from me.

Keep the first track, exactly as is (fix the phasing problems, beef up the sounds a bit)... then at 2:17 when it ends, you can bring in your horns or whatever. The 2:17 version is good now. You can extend it to 4 minutes by introducing stuff AFTER. Not at the start, changing the whole vibe.

A few distortion and phasing problems with your bass, but an excellent track none the less.

Good counts, good tension, good atmosphere/sonic palette.

Most improved ribbon goes to you. Maybe 2009 is your year?

Thanks!

I feel I need more practice with my mix downs. I'm trying to deliver a dense and saturated sound but right now it's a bit muddy, maybe even a bit harsh.

Anyway, it's nice to actually finish something. It's not an epic track or anything, but I'm happy with the overall vibe and results.

Nice tune!

I like this one.

It's moody and odd, but not incoherent. The build up to the kung-fu punch shows craftsmanship, proper count, and care. Everything is working here. Keep doing it like this!

Vista is a failure in design and implementation, but XP isn't the holy grail of the PC landscape either. It's worse. It' like saying Windows 95 is better than XP because it runs faster on some arbitrary machine from the late 90's and you dislike the yellow dog when you do a search. That may be the case but it's not a better OS.

For the record, I run OS X. Both Vista and XP are garbage to me. I jumped ship long ago for brushed metal unix like douchebaggery. But it's just an OS and it's not like OS X is a miracle or anything. Nor Linux. They each have their own idiosyncrasies.

Vista is an improvement over XP from a computing point of view, so long as your machine is fast. But there are built-in DRM and "content protection" caveats that are worth noting, which affect media production and other things people take for granted about copying information on a computer, in a somewhat sinister way:

Important, yes. An accomplishment, no.

To put it another way, if "spreading our seed" is the basis of civilization then *all* species should be civilized.

Anyway, a funny clip, but more "Everyone laugh at America" and not "Feminism"

On second thought, he did use the term "spead our seed" which is a play on words about agriculture.

Sorry guys, fucking isn't the basis of civilization. Agriculture and organizing is.

Having sex is up there with eating and sleeping, i.e. low on the list.

Alright le gros, je répete.

Les résultats du concours sont pour tout le monde, pas juste pour moi. Les fichiers sont hébergé sur le site Renoise, dont je fais partie de l'équipe. Open source, creative commons, demoscene, look into it.

Tu as droit à ton opinion. Mais je pense toujours que ton contexte est erronée. Pi mon opinon j'ai le droit aussi.

Respect.

The man who understands today and stops learning tomorrow is uneducated the day after. Sharing mod files (in this case Renoise files) is what tracking is all about. There's no shame in learning. There's no shame in teaching.

I'm still not sure what your problem with the contest is. And for a guy i never met, who didn't even enter, you sure have a lot of opinions about it. I guess I'm misunderstanding what you are trying to say. And if you are trying to talk shit about me, well good work I guess?

If you need to discuss this further hit me up on [ Renoise.com ] otherwise I wish you all the best. Keep on doing your thing. It's magical.

Cutterhead, are you accusing me of being a music theif or being rich? I am neither.

I've been on "the scene" since the early 1990's. I'm on the first and second Maz Sound Compilations [TRACKED WORX '97, TRACKED WORX '98] staples of the early PC mod/xm/it scene. I'm 33 years old dude. I've been tracking for decades. It's not like I don't know what trackers are about. The people who entered the contest all know me, either from IRC, the forums, or "the scene" in general.

Please relax, and stop coming off as some sort of "lord or righteousness", chanks.

I don't see how you can have a Logic or Acid contest without just calling it a general production contest and accepting MP3 files. Like, can you send me a Logic or Acid file? And can I open it? Even if i could, would it not be a huge file or series of unrelated files and plug-ins?

I wanted a Renoise contest because I wanted self-contained XRNS files. With those files I can learn something of other people's techniques and play around with the files to better myself.

I have enough MP3 files as it is. You guys should have a production contest for your sequencers if you really want. It might be cool!

I don't understand what you are saying. The contest is over and the submissions are being judged. Did you submit something? If not, it's way too late now. Sorry.

The work is copyright the respective authors. You are free to download and look at it. it's not public domain though. Don't go slapping your name on someone else's track. Write the author to show some props and ask if a remix is cool. No doubt it is, but use some common sense.
