ya word, i love you all, but anyone that missed this party... and i dont wanna sound like a prick or conceited or anything, but you won't see another party like that for awhile hahahaha... !! i dont know about the nazi salute.. i didnt notice but i was running around like crazy. anyways a lot of people had many questions about the decor and the concept of the party, and it raised i think a lot of awareness about what communism REALLY is, makes people talk, and it makes some people serious, it makes some people joke around and act stupid, and it makes some people argue, or some people say things that reveal elements of their personalities.. so it was very interesting as a social experiment. I don't know how many times during the night, and over the last month of promoting, that I had to correct people (usually half-joking) and tell them "hey, the party's not called NAZI-ISM its called communism. big difference.. " or, "hey, the party's not called FASCISM, it's called communism." heheh.. definitely a unique environment i think, and a change , a very weird change, from parties that are themed around having fun and stuff (like last year's Good Vibrations or 2002's One Love)..its a really weird idea. i can't believe we did it, its very surreal. once again none of us at level 4 can actually believe that this happened, and people came out in droves to party and trip out, so fucking a, we're all very happy, we tripped the fuck out of ourselves without doing any drugs or nothing heheh : ) thanks once again to all that supported.. to all that missed it, we'll get you next May :)

May Day is an umbrella name for certain holidays celebrated on May 1 (or in the beginning of May.) Today, May Day is best known in reference to International Workers' Day, the commemoration of the Haymarket Riot of 1886 in Chicago and this event's connection to a larger celebration of the social and economic achievements of the international labor movement. In this context, May Day is a primary holiday for large-scale socialist, communist, and anarchist street demonstrations around the world. In most places of the world, International Workers' Day is referred to simply as Labour Day.

International Workers' Day (a name used interchangeably with May Day) is the commemoration of the Haymarket Riot of 1886 in Chicago, and a celebration of the social and economic achievements of the international labor movement. The 1 May date is used because in 1884 the Federation of Organized Trades and Labor Unions, inspired by labor's 1872 success in Canada, demanded an eight-hour workday in the United States to come in effect as of May 1, 1886. This resulted in a general strike and the riot in Chicago of 1886, but eventually also in the official sanction of the eight-hour workday.

In 1889, the first congress of the Second International called for international demonstrations on the 1890 anniversary of the Chicago riot. These were so successful that May Day was formally recognized as an annual event at the International's second congress in 1891. The May Day Riots of 1894 and May Day Riots of 1919 occurred subsequently.

May Day has long been a focal point for demonstrations by various socialist, communist, and anarchist groups. In some circles, bonfires are lit in commemoration of the Haymarket Riot usually right as the first day of May begins. [1] In the 20th century, May Day received the official endorsement of the Soviet Union; celebrations in communist countries during the Cold War era often consisted of large military parades and shows of common people in support of the government. Meanwhile, in countries other than the United States and Canada, resident working classes fought hard to make May Day an official holiday, efforts which eventually largely succeeded. For this reason, in most of the world today, May Day is marked by massive street rallies led by workers, their trade unions and various socialist and communist parties.

The Red Scare periods ended May Day as a mass holiday in the United States (somewhat ironic given that May Day originated in Chicago).

In the United States, Labor Day is celebrated on the first Monday in September instead of on May 1st. This Labor Day was a creation of the 1880's Knights of Labor and was adopted officially in 1887 in the U.S. in an attempt to disassociate labor activism from the radical left. In 1958, as part of an effort to remove any remaining Socialist/Communist connotations from May Day, President Dwight D. Eisenhower proclaimed May 1st both as Loyalty Day and as Law Day. Each year the sitting president is instructed to proclaim these observances for May 1st.

Sebastian Prelar
Born in Montreal, former member of The 909 Soldiers with DJ Kal who runned a few years ago one of the first Montreal based techno labels, In-Filtration Records, Sebastian has been fascinated and obsessed by electronic music since the end of the 80's / early 90's. He really and more seriously got involved in composing and creating in 1996. Being active on the Montreal techno scene for years, he acquired experience by giving quite a few live shows downtown and around the city. He then got signed and finally released his first tracks on Disktrick and In-Filtration Records in 1999. Prelar's style is mostly groovy bangin' & jackin' techno with a Chicago flavor, armed with pounding heavy beats and raw vocals. In 2003 he joined the Djax-Up-Beats team and released his first EP on the label, also remixed DJ Rush a few times and then got signed on the german techno label Highball Music. Continuing to expand the jackin' techno sound, he lately got signed on DJ Bam Bam's Chicago based label, Bass Heavy Music.

Socalled

Socalled is said to be a magician, cartoonist, pianist, photographer, animator, DJ & beat-writer whose first hip-hop EP 'The Socalled Seder' has been hailed as 'one of the greatest works of Jewish music in years'. His beats appear on Krakauer's award-winning album 'The Twelve Tribes' and 'Frank London's Klezmer Brass Allstars' 'Brotherhood of Brass' (also on Piranha). He has produced tracks for many rap acts and is currently working on a remix for the upcoming New York Folksbeine's 'Kids in Yiddish' album.

Socalled was born Josh Dolgin in Ottawa, Ontario and raised just north, in Chelsea, Quebec. As a kid he was always in musicals and drew cartoons for the Ottawa Citizen. He hated soccer. He was bribed by his mother to continue piano lessons until high school, then he picked up the accordion. He wrote for the newspaper and played in any kind of band – salsa, gospel, rock, funk – then discovered MIDI and hip hop. He worked with rappers, he made madd beats, he got into studios. He graduated from McGill and made a 50 minute animated film for the Canada Council, meanwhile writing for Hour Magazine and performing. He has now appeared on a dozen recordings as pianist, singer, arranger, rapper, writer and producer. He rocks the machine with in David Krakauer’s Klezmer Madness!, sings with Toronto-based Beyond the Pale, performs with home-base band Shtreiml in Montreal, with LA-based the Aleph Project. He conducts the Addath Israel choir for High Holidays. Socalled performs and records widely with a crew of mixed-up freaks and geniuses from around the world, including Killah Priest, Susan Hoffman-Watts, Frank London, and Irving Fields.

LOVE HIM.

historian.

marx's unfulfilled final task in life was to write a historical account of like, ALL Of human history, showing how humanity is gradually, constantly moving, evolving if you will, towards communism. communism for him was not a matter of morals or ethics but simply of human nature, he believed that an in-depth look at history would always show tensions between those in power and the majority of people trying to take control of the means of production, this tension being the source of virtually all revolutions etc

they black out your emails and you can't use wikipedia? that's kookoo shit, cool
thanks for the day-in-the-life-of-basdini info

george orwell's classic animal farm is a drawnout allegory about the russian revolution and the 'failure' of communism in USSR, i think it's mad interesting and also really informative for many who aren't deeply informed about communism (it ain't a dirty word yo. or it doesn't have to be).. so check this shit out it's kinda cool. dude breaks down all the similies in animal farm:

Animal Farm

Russian Revolution
Mr. Jones

* irresponsible to his animals (lets them starve)
* sometimes cruel - beats them with whip
* sometimes kind - mixes milk in animal mash

Czar Nicholas II

* a poor leader at best, compared to western kings
* cruel - sometimes brutal with opponents
* Sometimes kind - hired students as spies to make $

Old Major

* taught Animalism
* workers do the work, rich keep the $, animals revolt
* dies before revolution

Karl Marx

* invented Communism
* "workers of the world unite", take over gov't
* dies before Russian Revolution

Animalism

* no owners, no rich, but no poor
* workers get a better life, all animals equal
* everyone owns the farm

Communism

* same
* all people equal
* gov't owns everything, people own gov't

Snowball

* young, smart, good speaker, idealistic
* really wants to make life better for all
* one of leaders of revolution
* chased away into exile by Napoleon's dogs

Leon Trotsky

* other leader of "October Revolution"
* pure communist, followed Marx
* wanted to improve life for all in Russia
* chased away by Lenin's KGB (Lenin's secret police)

Napoleon

* not a good speaker, not as clever like Snowball
* cruel, brutal, selfish, devious, corrupt
* his ambition is for power, killed opponents
* used dogs, moses, and Squealor to control animals

Joseph Stalin

* not a good speaker, not educated like Trotsky
* same as Napoleon, didn't follow Marx's ideas
* cared for power, killed all that opposed him
* used KGB, allowed church, and propagandized

Squealer

* big mouth, talks a lot
* convinces animals to believe and follow Napoleon
* Changes and manipulates the commandments

Propaganda department of Lenin's government

* worked for Stalin to support his image
* used any lie to convince the people to follow Stalin
* benefited from the fact that education was controlled

The Dogs

* a private army that used fear to force animals to work
* killed or intimidated any opponent of Napoleon
* another part of Napoleon's strategy to control animals

KGB - Secret Police

* not really police, but forced support for Stalin
* used force, often killed entire families for disobedience
* totally loyal, part of Lenin's power, even over army

Moses the Raven

* tells animals about SugarCandy mountain - Heaven
* animals can go there if they work hard
* Snowball and Major were against him
* they though Heaven was a lie to make animals work
* Napoleon let him stay because he taught animals to
* work and not complain

Religion

* Marx said "Opiate of the people" a lie
* used to make people not complain and do their work
* Religion was tolerared because people would work
* Stalin knew religion would stop violent revolutions

Mollie

* was vain - loved her beauty and self
* didn't think about the animal farm
* went with anyone who gave her what she wanted

Vain, selfish people in Russia and world

* some people didn't care about revolution
* only though about themselves
* went to other countries that offered more for them

Boxer

* strong, hard working horse, believes in Animal Farm
* "Napoleon is always right", "I must work harder"
* gives his all, is betrayed by Napoleon, who sells him

Dedicated, but tricked communist supporters

* people believed Stalin because he was "Communist"
* many stayed loyal after it was obvious Stalin a tyrant
* betrayed by Stalin who ignored and killed them

Benjamin

* old, wise donkey who is suspicious of revolution
* thinks "nothing ever changes", is right
* his suspicions are true, about Boxer and sign changes

Skeptical people in Russia and outside Russia

* weren't sure revolution would change anything
* realized that a crazy leader can call himself communist
* knew that communism wouldn't work with power
* hungry leaders

Overall details about revolution

* it was supposed to make life better for all
* life was worse at the end
* The leaders became the same as, or worse than,
* the other farmers (humans) they rebelled against

Overall details of Russian Revolution

* supposed to fix problems from Czar
* life was even worse long after revolution
* Stalin made Czar look like a nice guy
