1 year old and still killin it, congrats to stef and sophie. good times last night, everyone that came out came there to dance, and i heard some dope shit from omni as always and some different shit from galaksy on some breaky tekky tip to end his set. wORD.

i understand that people complain sometimes because parties are at the same venue, it ain't like a rave in some warehouse shithole that'll never be used again, but our underground scene has struggled for years to have a secure, friendly and reliable place to throw parties where we don't get hassled, can blast the music, without fearing for our lives or worrying about sketch, gangsterism or anything at all. so, i just wanted to say long live fractal, all my dealings with this place have been 100% completely satisfying, and i don't know anyone who will say differently (except that dude from ottawa that tried to shrow that hadcore party that got all fucked up heheh anyways)... death to videodrome, long live the new flesh.

Myagi aka Sole Claw aka Andrew Mavor has rapidly become a major part of North Americas contribution to electronic music. Hailing from Canada, he has, in the last year, played the vast majority of the world and has become touted as one of the newt major North American talents. His releases and remixes are in constant demand, as shown by a relentlessly expanding discography which boasts variations and a range of styles most producers could only dream of pulling off From his first record in 2001, the Myagi sound has grown and expanded with the electronic music scene, all the while retaining its independence and unpredictability. Initially eschewing tough clubby sounds in favor of funk, and then pushing in a deeper direction once the inevitable pigeon holing began, Myagi has remained fresh within the scene as a whole, not a step behind or ahead of anyone else, but in fact pursuing something different, fusing many sounds into a high energy dancefloor assault. He has played sets on the BBC, the CBC and Crystal Method's Community Service, landed a standout track on the Plump DJ's Saturday Night Lotion, and recently did an extremely well received exclusive mix album for DJ Magazines [ www.djdownload.com ] on behalf of labels West And Splank. In both the studio and in the club, Mavor has become renowned for his seamless maneuvering between hip hop based funky breaks and nu skool, house and techy big rooms tunes. Myagis live sets have been described as innovative, relentlessly funky and ludicrously fun, and have led to a devoted fan base in all corners of the globe.

MATEO MURPHY [ www.mateomurphy.com ]

Real Name: Mateo Murphy
Profile: Mateo found his calling at the age of 14, when, looking for an album by a favorite artist, he stumbled onto the 12" section of his local record store. Intrigued by the concept of the remix, he started buying 12"s by his favorite pop artists, gradually moving towards the more underground house sounds coming out of Detroit and Chicago.

Once in college, however, he discovered Montreal's fledgling rave scene, and the harder European sounds that drove it: dropping out of school shortly after, he devoted himself to deejaying full time. After just a few months of intense practice, he got his professional rave debut in 1994, and quickly grew a strong following in Montreal and the surrounding area. Combining the funky rhythms and soul of house music with the hypnotic repetition and intensity of techno, he developed a unique sound that manages to appeal to fans of both. His skill at working a crowd, combined with his impeccable programming and seamlessly mixing, makes his sets irresistible to dance to and has made him one of the most respected DJs in the city. He has held residencies at 5 different clubs in the city (which earned him a top 5 spot in the 'best club dj category' in a recent Montreal Mirror reader's poll), and has made countless guest appearances headlining in bars and raves across the country.

Pushed by the desire to broaden his horizons, he decided that producing his own music was the next step. Fuelled by the local success of his early productions, he decided in 1998 to invest himself fully as a recording artist, cutting down on his hectic deejaying schedule to build up his own studio and produce seriously, developing his sound. The fruits of this labor are quickly coming to light: in a short time, he has released records on all the prominent Montreal-based techno record labels, which has lead to an A & R position at Default recordings, and long-term record deals with several others, including Disktrick and Turbo recordings. His releases consistently find themselves in the charts of some of the biggest DJs in the world, including Paul Oakenfold, Carl Cox, Derrick May, DJ Dan, Josh Wink, and Adam Beyer. And with the increasing demand for his production skills from outside of the city and his growing reputation as both a live act and a DJ, the next year promises to make him one of Montreal's biggest exports.

About the Artists

AOT

The sound of uplifting underground Hip Hop has finally found its ambassadors in Montreal. A.O.T. (Ashes On the Table) has been cultivating its sound for over 6 years, developing a sound now ripe for fruition. With a powerful mix of lyricism and musicality, AOT has been working on a style that represents their roots and the influences that surround them on a daily basis. Known for being humorous and energetic, they form hard hitting, conscious lyrics that are both clever and provocative. While splashing beat-boxing, and DJing elements throughout their sets, their strength lies in how dynamic and comfortable the emcees are with each others lyrics. As a result of their evolution, they've enjoyed a snowball effect with fans who flock to their shows at an exponential rate. Word of mouth has donned AOT the reputation for being one of the only authentic, live hip hop acts in the city of Montreal, an honour reserved for few, with much more yet to come.

Ses textes et melodies le placent dans une classe a part et lui conferent des outils artistiques qui feront de lui l'un des grands artistes de Montreal au cours des annees qui viennent.

SARCASTIC

Founder of Montreal-based underground electronic music pantheon Level 4 Productions, this amorphous being has contributed to the subculture's cabalistic causes on many levels for the past decade as label manager, DJ, producer, promoter and music critic. Possessed since childhood with a needling drive to splice together discrete musical compositions, first with cassette decks, microphones, CD players or 8-tracks, it was only a matter of time before Sarcastic was introduced to his lifetime partner: the Technics 1200. His love for the chugging repetitive nature of techno, acid house and hardcore genres remains informed by an early appreciation for hip-hop, stoner rock, jazz and psychedelia of all sorts. Equally at home behind two or three decks, Sarcastic’s diversity has allowed him to perform alongside many of his musical mentors: NYC’s Frankie Bones, Detroit ghetto-tech DJ Assault, Stockholm’s Thomas Krome and Slobodan or London breakbeat stars Freestylers or Deekline. Lengthy local residencies have seen Sarcastic spinning anything from pure tek, minimal and experimental techno to acid, breakbeats, DnB, booty, house and tek-house; recently championing the “vinyl” movement, Sarcastic is even known to work classic rock, funk, hip hop, trip hop, blues, jazz and bluegrass into his carefully programmed DJ sets.

i didnt hear seismik cause i was playin downstairs but ya Gobs surprised me with some good shit, some actual dirty ghetto tek booty shit. i thought it was gonna be like a wet & hard scam where it's all like 'oooh, dirty shit, dirty shit' and then you pay your money and get there and the guys just playing prog cheese. but it was fucking really dope tunes, and dope DJing.
Crizok was a nice surprise to hear some fresh blood playin some real tek, i never saw him play before. TorTuRed!! dope shit..
also really enjoyed hectic's opening set downstairs, and poirier played some nice bassy tracks. all in all a fucking great night, especially considering it was SO fucking cold and snowy and shit, sometimes i think that means that all the people that DID come out were really havin it. long live saphir thu.

yes i think its safe to say that Gizzy will bust some Baile Funk, as well as some grime crunk reggaeton and well, who the fuck knows really i guess! as far as DJing etc, I think anyone that thinks DJing is all about beat matching two records together can learn a lot from DJs like Poirier. success is the best indicator of ... you know what i mean.. so heads better recognize. here's a message from Ghislain :

Hey,I just did an African Hip-Hop mix for the Mary Anne Hobbs show on radio1 (BBC). I had the task to find heavy and dirty tracks, close to grime and crunk. The mix played on Feb. 9th and the whole show is here : [ www.bbc.co.uk ] But radio streaming is not the best quality…So you can download this little mix here : [ www.zshare.net ]

GHISLAIN POIRIER

Montreal’s Ghislain Poirier is obsessed with big, dirty beats, an affliction that causes him create some of the most out of control ragga style riddims, and deconstructed abstract hip-hop to date.

In the past Poirier has collaborated with MC’s and DJ’s from across the globe, working with NYC’s resident Large cats MC Beans (Warp) and DJ Rupture (Tigerbeat6), as well as Parisian heavy weights TTC (Big Dada) and London’s Lotek Hi-Fi (Big Dada) amongst others.

Poirier has become renowned globally for his bass slammin remixes that continue to further solidify his title as “king of the bounce”. He has remixed tracks for UK grime/hip hop sensation Lady Sovereign (Def Jam), Les Georges Leningrad, Pulseprogramming and The Editors, all to much critical acclaim and garnering him attention from publications such as [ pitchforkmedia.com ] and XLR8R Magazine.

In 2005 Poirier released the album ‘Breakupdown’ on Chocolate Industries, the record was well received by the public and press alike, and as a result he was offered the opportunity to perform during a North American tour with the loudest midget in the game herself, Lady Sovereign.

Since then, Poirier has been throwing down his own successful monthly DJ night in Montreal, ‘BOUNCE LE GROS’. An evening that features what Poirier describes as “Bass and no attitude, Gros sound, Gros Beat, Gros Move, Bounce le Gross”. A master in the art of making people move, Poirier’s night of genre Mashing provides enough bass to fill the place, attracting a mixed crowd that appreciate his dirty style, tasty beats and eclectic flare. Spinning music that flows effortlessly from global hip hop, grime, Bali beats, Booty bass, crunk, Baltimore and much more is this DJ’s signature stamp, a sold out party month after month.

Poirier decided to release his next body of work on his own imprint, and as a result started the label "Rebondir Records" on which he released his "Rebondir e.p” earlier in 2006.

This legend in the making is touring the world extensively playing the underground club circuit. Keep your ears open, your feet in check and be prepared to Bounce!

----------------------------------------------------------

myagi does rock

perhaps little known fact is that he also records as Sole Claw... and a soul claw track has recently been signed by Finger Lickin for a new Plump DJs CD:

"Plump DJs present Saturday Night Lotion – eagerly awaited and certainly no disappointment – this megamix caused great sensation, with the likes of Soul of Man, Madox, Sole Claw and heaps of brand new Plumps material on board."

from their site: [ www.fingerlickin.co.uk ]

myagi has been living in Toronto for the last couple of years but is now moving to Vancouver, BC.. a large part of the reason he is coming in March before the cost of ppaying his plane to Montreal skyrockets!! (DJ Czech, Mar 15th @ Saphir is a similar situation as he is moving away from Vancouver to Czechoslovakia, fittingly enough... so we gotta have him back in montreal while we can afford it!! )

huge bookings. thanks for the support all let's do this! :)

screwhead, i think your fucked up perception of reality, and that of your friends in the last 8 years, has horribly skewed your interpretation of events here. YES, there was a pizza place on atwater busted for selling drugs, which included crack cocaine and heroin in addition to cocaine marijuana and after hours alcohol. but no, it was never suggested that these people were putting heroin INSIDE the pizza. the pizza was a front for all the illicit activities, drivers doing business 24 hours a day, and incoming phone calls and pages 24/7... the reason the pizza was addictive was more likely a) grease b) sugar or a combination of a and b. this is awesome though, i wish i could dig up that story. i remember when that happened also, i lived in st-henri.

and THAT's where they got the expression CRACK SLICE from? right?
hehehahah

Nellboy
Nellboy has just moved to Montreal, QC from Cork, Ireland and has been making music on his computer for around 3 years. Before that, he was a guitarist in a rock band. And like Bryan Adams after the summer of 69, when his band split up, he decided to go solo. However, unlike Bryan Adams, he now makes electronic music, skirting the borders of electro, techno, house, glitch, pulse, minimal, punk/rock, and dub while not committing fully to any one style. A multi-instrumentalist, his set is 100% original material with live vocals, guitar, and melodica with FX, along with much tweaking of knobs and pushing of buttons, with one aim, to rock the joint!!! Over the past year and a half, he has gone from strength to strength and has grown in confidence at every step, playing extensively in all of Ireland's favourite electro clubnights. And he now hopes to do the same in Montreal and further afield. He has released some material with Dublin based label SeedyR, and will no doubt release more material in the future, but for now, he remains focused on the live set.

Fu Ancko
18 JANVIER 18 JANUARY:
Tag Team night Vol. 88112A21-345 features Turbo Recording artist Sean Kosa battling it out with Mix co-founder and Wikkid recording artist, Level 4 Productions' DJ Sarcastic, and Akarien Productions' Axel Klein and Omni going head to head for the prize... see below for artist info:

Sean Kosa - Turbo Records Sean began his sonic adventures in the womb, his mother a classically trained singer, was an active musician before and after his birth. His parents noticed his own obvious gift at a young age when, at just three months, his first words were actually the chorus of Ave Maria, sung with perfect intonation, timbre and pitch. In the words of his mother,"I was stunned!" Fast forward fifteen years; Sean is standing in front of his first amplifier holding a white Fender Stratocaster, a tidal wave of distortion and feedback cascading from the speaker. In a revelation that would forever change Sean's outlook on music he declared, "I am going electric." After playing in Toronto for the next five years he had felt that he was hitting a wall creatively and spiritually. But something special would soon emerge from the grey morass of Toronto pawn shops that would once again revitalise Sean's interest and faith in music. Working in a Scarborough heavy machine factory had allowed him to begin building a rudimentary studio in his parents basement. His purchase of a sampler/sequencer and analog synth was integral to his new vision for sound and composition. Although his sequenced drum patterns made him a pariah amongst his old friends and bandmates he stayed strong,"I don't care if you think it sounds gay," was his famous retort, "it became almost a mantra," said friend and ex-bandmate Mike Milosh. Because of this clausterphobic climate of non-acceptance that surrounded him, Sean left Toronto for Montreal in what some friends would later call, "his self-imposed period of exile.". This so-called exile would prove to be a very fruitful time for Sean. As he would put it, "beer is my monastery," and what a monastery it was! Only three years after arriving in Montreal he began working in the online gaming industry, doing various tasks such as sound design, voice overs, song composition and loop creation. Although exciting at first, Sean quickly grew weary of, as he would so often put it, "smoking the big corporate hog." The only way for Sean to stay sane was to focus on his own material, his D.J. work, his tone poems for modern dance choreographers, and his short lived fashion show sound treatments. Then, without warning, the dot com crash came and Sean was one of it's worst casualties, stripped of the financial success of his embryonic career he took a good look in the mirror, stuck his chin up and said, "I shall now create souvlaki." After a year of rolling pita Sean came to his senses, assembled some of his most beloved tracks on a CD and sent out a bunch of demo's. Then one day the phone rang, "Hello, it's Tiga, is Sean there?"

Sarcastic - Level 4 [ Productions.com ] / Wikkid Records - Founder of Montreal-based underground electronic music pantheon Level 4 Productions, this amorphous being has contributed to the subculture's cabalistic causes on many levels for the past decade as label manager, DJ, producer, promoter and music critic.
[ www.level4productions.com ] / [ www.myspace.com ]

Omni - Akarien Prod. Passionate about music since he was born, it is his love for the electronic music which drew his attention to the role of the DJ and eventually led him to the rave scene. Now totalling five years as a DJ in different types of events and venues, it is the Montreal electronic music scene that Omni calls his home. Very busy in this scene for the past three years, he was a resident of the Electro Shock events and played at Akarien Production's events like Electronic Avenue or, more recently, Electro-Chic. He has been seen mixing at major events like Ray Junior's Apocalypse 2005, Evolution Radar One 8 in the bunker and Intense 2006 in Quebec city. He has also played at the infamous Overdose night at Parking nightclub, the biggest electro night in Montreal. He is currently a resident DJ for Akarien Production's Electro Chic events at the SAT. Always evolving, DJ Omni's musical style is very eclectic, gathering influences from rock, industrial and even trance while mainly being recognised as Electro. The result is a musical exploration and a varied track selection that ensures a fresh sound night after night.

[ www.djomni.net ] / [ www.myspace.com ]

Axel Klein - Akarien Prod. Hailing from Montreal, Canada and part of Akarien, Axel Klein was introduced to the party scene back in 1998 with artist like Scooter, Aquagen, Rollergirl and Green Court. This laid down the diverse roots that led himself to start collecting similar music. Doing this, this young talented DJ found himself learning a lot more about music and he started to lean more to the sounds of Trance. While collecting is favorite tracks and cd's from djs around the world, Axel came across a video of Ferry Corsten live at Innercity 1999, and was so impressed he wanted to do the same thing. Getting a job specifically to buy records and his first set of turntables, Axel Klein began to mix records just like the man he saw in the video. Mimiking his every move helped him to develop his own style, as he began to understand what exactly it was he was doing behind the decks. Taking this knowledge further, and being more and more influenced with the dutch sound of hard driving techno infused trance, Axel Klein began to expand his horizons, bending more to the fresh sound of Electro. At the present time, Axel Klein has been seen playing along side some of the best in the industry (such as Above & Beyond, Astral Projection, PBS aka Nick Roland & Dave Wright, Lori The HiFi Princess, Neophyte, Preach, Niklas Harding, just to name a few), and try to improve himself every time to bring something fresh to the scene playing the upfront Electro and Minimal. The fresh sound of Electro makes him want to destroy the dancefloor more than ever!
