Montreal producer/DJ Sarcastic’s career has been marked by diversity among underground electronic music genres, and his debut EP with Wikkid Records is no exception. A driving, assertive bass kick is showcased on both cuts, as is Sarcastic’s signature half-time breakdown and the outspoken social/music critic’s own voice.

The pulsating, dubby title track straddles minimal techno and tech-house styles, with Sarcastic’s vocals delivering a concise message. Though there’s some controversy surrounding the lyrical content, Sarcastic has made it clear that he’s not trying to get people to commit crimes for drug money. A clean production aesthetic and round, warm bass are just what the doctor ordered.

Banana Cognac is a distorted, raw journey through the dirty back alleys of Sarcastic’s downtown neighborhood/mind. Referencing dubstep as easily as ghetto-tek, inserting a shuffle into the mix, and contributing vocal elements once again, Sarcastic crafts an x-rated gem not recommended for the faint of heart.

ok, so i went to bed, i slept for 8 hours, i dreamed about it, i thought about it, and i still think that was the fucking BEST. my mind is still blown. ghetto technics 7?? mark bell? the fucking remix of Black Polished Chrome??? helikopter remix to start the set? POPOF???? Rekorder 9?? what the FUCK. really happy to see Bones playing everything all over the place, tons of old school shit, early trance anthems and total rave shit, lots of fucking banging heavy bones style shit (especially in the first hour) -which he didn't play so much of last time he was here; and also playing brand new material (apologizing cause he knew it was supposed to be an old school party hahah!), taking some minimal twists, and really mixing it up. what an inspiring set, what an inspiring night. hugest big ups again @ project mayhem.

holy fuck. that was the best fucking party ever. that totally took me back to times so long ago i can't even fucking remember. amazing music, AMAZING venue, AMAZING fucking, BRUTALLY loud sound. Bones doesn't really play any breaks nowadays, and when he does (like last time he dropped the Anthony Rother remix of Thomas Schumacher's "When I Rock") it's not in the UK breaks or Nu School breaks that people are used to nowadays, the sound that is most often associated with the word "breaks" in 2007... when Bones plays breaks it's still in the style of what's known nowadays as Electro-breaks (like Anthony Rother).. a style which used to be called Electro until about 1999 when Miss Kittin and the Hacker changed the face of electro forever.. now electro is something totally different.. so we have to call that sound electro-breaks... like what Radarsat-1 plays, or DJ Hectic quite often...

Frankie Bones first record came out in 1988.. at first his productions were very much like what you would call electro-breaks, coproducing with Lenny Dee already by 1989 (i will play that record, it rules) and he was noticed by the UK scene on the strength of his music alone.. he's called the first international DJ because he was the first US DJ to fly over to the UK and play in their rave and party circuit in the late 80s... after discovering many different styles out in the UK (where the rave scene was peaking in the 'summer of love' (which is what UK called 1988)) Frankie started branching out, by the 90s producing lots more styles including house, hardcore (with Jimmy Crash and Adam X) and lots of fucking amazing techno (with the ghetto technics series) ... bones could easily be called the pioneer of the "ghetto-tech" sound, as well as a pioneer for breaks, and he's always been called the king of new york techno.

I dunno, I was sunstroked and hallucinating by 4 PM, that was a fucking crazy afternoon for me, holy shit! Wicked times, TONS of people, SO many familiar faces, I had an amazing time from beginning to end... I drank about 75 bottles of water but still could not keep hydrated.. great weather, it was like fucking mexico out there or something.. thanks to piknic and to all that came out and supported I had a fucking blast!
