DHL, EMS both do great shipping for cheap and even with shipping it's still cheaper. Alibaba has a great list of distributors and most of those companies actually make the lights for other people.

Example... My old black lights I paid 320$ + 50$ shipping to buy them from USA, in Canada they were 499$ + tax each and in China I can get the same lights for 190$ + 40$ shipping. That is a 140$ savings per light. I wish I knew before I bought 3 of them from USA and one didn't even work! I never had anything not work from China except a laser which was dropped. The lights I got from China were actually the NEWER version and are made better!!! The ones I got in the USA first generation.

Even for the DJM2000 which I want to buy, it's 2100$ in the USA and 2750$ in Canada. Even with the best price of 2475$ it's still almost a 400$ difference.

Fact is that we can't make stuff cheap enough and the government charges so many duties that it's pointless for anyone to want to sell some stuff here. China with it's mass amounts of people who all want work can just produce stuff cheaper and then people here try to sell it for a profit.

psy parties don't always have the same deco. and you see shiva in parties only sometimes. mostly when Bendala takes charge of brigning his paintings... and they're mostly uv-reactive paintings that were brought back from a trip to India... so that's why they're relevant, that's where the sources of psy is from.

what bothers me is when people use in mindlessly. but if people get curious about shiva, it's a good thing really. he is an awesome symbol, like a door to a lot of what being in trance is about. om namah shivaya. :)

now speaking as a member of psychedelic sanctary decoration crew, most of the time we do our best to make the deco fit the theme, when given a budget and enough time. at Mort we had the columns of the temple, like a gothic church. at Spore, the ramifications represented the evolution of all species in life. at yggdrasil it was trees, with a million green leaves, like the tree of life. at space gathering which was held on the beach, the deco represented the sun, and it was used to create shade on the dancefloor.

in truth we just want to create something more than a bare room, and put people in the perspective that the organizers wish to create... there is feng shui involved, there is the rounding of the corners, and how the dancefloor energy is directed. getting in trance is powerful and we do our best to help create a good vibe in all ways possible, with colors, shapes and lights (when we can) and... well the music of course :) and for those who are tripping on drugs, it's really fun to be in such an immersive environment.

maybe most people don't notice the little details that we pay close attention to when building a lycra structure, but they sure pick it up at some point, unconsciously. rave and the exploration of the dream mind. the reve mind. the deeper places in the brain... round the corners like a dream bubble and escape the squareness of the everyday life. be in a circle, be in a forest, be in the temple of your rave/reve.

and lycra is the best material for us to work with in the moment because it can fold and is easily transportable, yet it can fill a whole room when unfolded. simple practicality... :) we are getting better at doing it, with time. things that were once our masterpiece become accessories as we learn to make stuff that is even more evocative.

of course maybe people with other music will enjoy maybe a bare room... like a bare industrial room is awesome for hmm industrial music. but i really want to make deco for a hardcore rave at some point. something different. i have ideas so.... yeah. maybe you'll see that too in the future. it's some stuff that would... maybe... fit with really dark psy or hardcore. and yes we need strobes and smoke for that one.
I'm feeling inspired right now..

it's 'cause it looks trippy. the rest, like so-called symbolism, is just self-justification for the pot-luck-dinner equivalent of western 'spirituality'. it just looks cool, which is fine. besides, most styles of music try to add visuals to their acts to enhance the overall experience, with their own conceptuality, which is also fine. i like speakers, smoke, and moving lights ...

anyway, it might be art, but it's mostly eye candy. nothing more. it's trippy. end of story.

ps. wtf happened to VJs?

VJs are coming at one hour before the party starts complaining why there isn't already a setup for them.
and when there is one they are not happy with it and they still complain
and then they stop VJing :P
(ok ok not all of them lol)
there are some VJs usually. i just wish that they actually communicated their needs to the promoters, so that we are aware of where to put a screen, and where the projector will be placed.
in all 5 years of doing deco it happened maybe... twice... that we had clear directions on that.

Isn't exploring the "trippy" side of the human mind the point of any mind-altering activity like meditation/yoga/trance/psychedelic experience?

Dancing in front of an artwork like this one amplify the effects of both psychedelics, dance trance and self-reflection... But maybe I'm just trying to justify my own experience...who knows. Maybe I see symbolism where there is none.

Or maybe some people lost touch with the magic in music, arts and community. I guess it's what makes the difference between jaded ravers and the others who enjoy the show and dance with the flow.
I'm feeling the farce right now..

why does tripping out have to be associated with meditation and all that trance shit? why can't it just be ... tripping out?

maybe the problem is that some people aren't jaded enough, so that they need all sorts of excuses to pretend that they're doing more than they are, instead of just accepting that listening to music you love and dancing to it is just a good time ... can't ppl be realistic & yet enjoy surrealism without calling it spirituality? meh, to each his own.

I used to agree with that.

Why should it be called "tripping out" when it's been called a medicine for hundreds of years? I mean, sure you can see it as "tripping out", but it's only gonna make the experience confusing and without any focus.

But hey... it's your choice if you decide that you're not able to touch the spiritual dimension of your self. My view is that the mind is a very powerful tool. Powerful enough that it lets you chose your truth, chose how you want to perceive any given experience. We are information receivers. It's up to you to interpret the signals in your own way.

Acceptance is for unnimaginative people. By saying that it's "just" a good time, you're giving yourself limits. Good for you if you enjoy these limits, but I don't.

Fuck consensus reality. To each his own, indeed.
I'm feeling the farce right now..
