lynzin : i know you are well intented but you so conceded and arrogant ! i remember when you first started you were super nice about it and wanted to learn more! now you sound like a jaded pissed off raver !
let me tell you about Laptop mixing ... because you havent seen someone use it properly yet doesnt mean its easy and cheap! go on youtube and search for : ableton live mashup or ableton live remixing and tell me you can do that with your precious vinyl(unless were talkin final scratch).

here is a lil contest called Laptop battle!please open your mind and notice whats coming next :

THE RULES : you bring 2 controller and a laptop ! whoever makes the best show!
if any promoter is payin attention outthere you should organise this! :)
I'm feeling analyzing charts right now..

Conceded and arrogant wtf r u talking about?I know there are alot of things u can do on Ableton i have it btw and i do use it, i am talking about the loosers that say they r dj and all they do press the sync button all the time!!! Please read that properly, i know what can be done on a laptop i have seen alot of great dj use it in all kinds of diffrent and very cool ways, i am not talking about them as i said i am talking about the loosers that don't know shit.

BTW if it wasn't for some doing it on vinyl or had the idea of it u guys wouldn't have it on your precious laptop! Because correct me if i am wrong someone had to think of it (probably a dj) to put it in the ableton right? Where did the dj get it from probably mixing on cd or vinyl and hey this would be cool if we can do this or that right? So u r the arrogant one not me, my mind is open, so don't sit there and say it isn't there is a diffrence between the dj that knows what they r doing and the dj that doesn't THAT IS WHAT I AM GETTING AT DUDE , not that my mind is closed to laptop mixing, i have ableton live at home and i do use it with my vinyl and cd's....

hehe aprizm , some guy should also bring two " roomba " (robot vac) and make em act like they are turntables while playing the controllers. they could follow a track and when it would fold back and forth ( scratch sound ) then it would.

now id pay that 10$ to watch that show.

teach thoses that claim they cant decypher my shit and are to stubborn to improove their own routine.
thou vinyl record players / record should never be phased out. if it would we wouldnt have god mode in our fav game anymore...

NOTHING beats vinyl : a track isnt a good track if it doesnt end up on wax for your physical control pleasure (and fuck final scratch its fixed lenght not at all infinite like an analog carved score).
I'm feeling tarfu right now..

I have the abelton, i am not tech savy and i do my best but as cutter head said nothing beats vinyl, i will try anything else NP i like the challenge it gives me, but in the end nothing beats vinyl, i will play it as long as it exists, but i will do other things as well, Play Ableton, cd's and so on, but if there r turntables i am gonna bring my vinyl, if there r only cd's at a party i will only bring cd's....

If i am in the mood for something really diff i will bring the laptop i haven't yet cause i don't feel like lugging my 1500$ laptop around to parties where it can easily be damaged or stolen...Records will get stolen i have had them stolen i just go find the track on the net or at the store to reorder it. Laptop is harder to replace plus all the music is in there as well i know u should back up but it so happens that u didn't or whatever reason! Usually when i see a dj bring a laptop they leave right away so not to set it aside in the dj booth to get stolen. I like to enjoy the party too after for a bit....

the irony is that techno vinyl are quite dependant of computer music production.

i just really really enjoy pitching down between the absolute bits the computer generated when bouncing the track.

I enjoy just playing vinyl in general the hands on feeling; gives me a feeling of accomplishment! I try to find different ways to play and make sounds do a double or triple mix to make the sounds intertwine scratch and so on.....I like that challenge...Laptop it is already done for u by pressing this button or that (nothing wrong with that it could be really cool the effects sometimes)

I'd like to know who you have actually seen spin like this? I always use a mix of Vinyl in addition to my mp3's through Serato. Where is this auto-dj button of which you speak?

Well i haven't really learned the in and outs of mixing on Abelton but there r alot of effects on there and it takes is a click of the mouse!!!I read the tutorials and it seems that's all it takes unless i am reading it wrong! Just like a Allen and heath mixer Press the effect button to arm it then effect away!!!

for you to rant about these so called lap-top djs that simply push the auto-mix button or whatever, means you must have seen someone do this? C'est qui? Otherwise your rant has no credibility and reeks of some kinda uninformed vinyl elitist b.s

meh.. not this again..

the only problem i have with laptops, from a tech or promoter standpoint, is that it's a pin in the ass when there are several laptop DJs in a night, 'cause you have to plug and unplug shit all night, and make room for the 'puters and sound-cards... but we'll get used to it, and find a solution, perhaps have the laptop DJs come early so they sound-check and plug in their shit before the party starts; or have a standard universal laptop, and the DJs just bring USB keys....

but besides that, to each his own. a DJ who uses records and just cross fades and doesn't do any cuts or tricks or beat-matching, is just as bad as a DJ who uses the 'easy' options on a program. most of the issues that are problematic with either option, is dependent on the DJ him/herself, not the gear...

anyways, there are + / - for both sides, it's a never ending debate..

so, can ppl stop arguing about this already?

(of course, if you want to argue, carry on! :p )
I'm feeling you up right now..

Dude wtv man r there not effect on most of the programs that r used for mixing on laptops? I would rather do it hands on than press a button and play around with effects that's it i have seen alot of dj's do this!!!!Nothing wrong with it, i would rather do it hands on that's all....

I myself haven't gotten that far yet with abelton but when i do i will use the effects why not they r there right?

The reason most dj use laptop is for convenience right everything built right in right? Please correct me if i am wrong ! Which means effect ( mixer built right in there with effects?) and all these great things that come with mixing on a laptop.....I am not bashing it, it's just not for me!!!!

I will keep trying though

As far as I know (and that's not much, seeing as I have no interest in DJing), Ableton is a music sequencer, not a mixing software?

To be fair, Lynzyn, you look like you're still dwelling on it :p

I love the sound of vinyl, kinda used to bitch at CDJ DJs, 'cuz most of their mp3s sounded crappy.

But heh. Sign of the times, and mp3 quality keeps getting better :)
