hehe , that happenned once with one of the simpson girl on saturday night live she ran out crying.

im with bliss and screwhead on the fact that we dont like stuff to being toss at us just cause they have so much money and contracts , that artist needs to buy themselves out of their own show.

in a show artist is 80 % his prestation not cheap ass prestidigitation

so if its fake , 80 of the whole things fake , gamos you should come see out fluorescent lighting here its really worth ignoring the dj so you can enjoy thoses for about 100$ even thou they cost 2$ at the hardware store

:P
I'm feeling tarfu right now..

I don't know why this is sparking a debate. The fact is that Paul Oakenfold, Tiesto, and many other trance DJs, even those in goa and psy circles, play prerecorded sets. It's either Cubase or Logic or Ableton set up with a montage rather than loops (to avoid any embarassing mistakes), or it's DATs. There was a huge war in Europe "against the DAT mafia". That was what they were talking about.

In the 90s there was a large section of the Ibiza trance DJ population that was resorting to this to make it easier to put on a show with sync'd video. I've seen Steaming Poo Oakenfold at raves before and I assure you that he was doing nothing on stage but EQing the audio montage and letting the tracks play out. He would occasionally pass filters to hype the crowd, and there were a few times where he cut tracks. But for the most part, he's not tweaking because of the style of music and how it works. Even doing cuts on beatmatched tracks is mostly for show and effect. It's not designed to be glitchy music with fast cuts so it's always mixed as a huge stream. Simple crossfading between two tracks, with a bit of EQing to make the fades smoother. But for it to be effective in trance these fades have to be logarithmic which means - preprogrammed.

I'm sorry to burst the Tiesto fans' bubbles but he's a superstar, and you're going not for a performance, but for a show. The point is it's a show. So there's your argument for going. Don't front that you would know anything about what he does as his so-called "performance" unless you have anything to back those claims. You want to know who else pulls that shit? Here it comes:

Hallucinogen / Simon Posford / Shpongle - seen him spin, he was too fucked to pull it off and it was all DATs. We knew because one of my friends gave him the hits, and he couldn't even speak straight.

Ritchie Hawtin - he was promoting Ableton for a while and basically played his album anywhere he went live. Now this was a promotional tour but it was really cheap that he was basically just showing how one mixes with Ableton this way and fans were coming out in the masses to "hear him spin". I know this too because I was basically right next to the computer.

There are definitely others. I'm sorry, but this is why I'm skeptical of any superstar DJs. They front. They don't need to make an effort anymore, and frankly if they did they'd risk showing that they may not have what it takes to persevere in the face of new and fresher talent.
I'm feeling mighty frisky right now..

And I think it's pretty fucking ironic that some DJs here go play at parties with a crate full of vinyls without preselecting tracks, mixing on the fly and beatmatching like crazy and have to fucking fight the promoter to have a free beer when DJ Tiesticles makes 20000$ an hour for just showing up with 2 CDs and PRETENDING to DJ.

What, is he that much of a superstar he can't be bothered mixing anymore ?

Oh and it never ceases to amaze me to hear some people on here saying 20$ is too expensive for parties which feature 10+ local DJs (which their main argument is "cause they don't mix so good"), yet run to the ticket booth and shell out 170$ to see ONE DJ, just ONE, who doesn't even fucking mix live.

I can say local dj's r good to pay to go see to support them, but the international dj's OTHER than TIESTO are good to go see sometimes too....Not everyone dances the same as the dj in after hours i have seen some great stuff in afterhours!!!I wouldn't pay 170$ for a ticket but i have paid 75$ to go see a international dj that works the crowd and does a great job!

His Name is Steve Lawler and was totally worth ever last dime, that was the last time i paid that much to go see a dj, international or local cause honestly alot of both types of dj's play alot of the same thing (with some exception) and it's getting a bit BORING that is why i don't play in Montreal anymore! That is why i don't play alot anymore either! That is why i don't pay as well to get in alot of local clubs either i either get a guest spot or i just don't go! hence i don't go out very often anymore!

Show me dj worth going to hear ( with some exceptions again not all of em) and i will go, prove to me him/her r worth having my money! Same goes for an afterhours, Stereo is opening up again and i plan on going to the opening and after that um not so sure when i will go out again.....I don't mind supporting the dj's but show me they r good and i will go prove to me that they r good. Just as good as i like em to be as the dj i already know and love!
I'm feeling stereo right now..

ok, lets make it simple, you guys would go and pay to see your favorite band, once they get on stage, they put thier latest cd in the cd player, and clap thier hands for an hour without playing anything?

right ...

yeah heh, it's borderline insulting every other DJ at the party by doing that shit.. If you're not ready to beatmatch on your own, stay in the fucking bedroom untill you get some skills!

i think if you want to write down the order you want to play stuff in that's ok, but you 're right if you write down the pitch change that's kinda gayzors...
