I hear you when you're saying that it sucks when another DJ plays all your stuff, especially when he plays right before you. I guess it all comes down to a matter of respect between the DJs. I understand why you don't want to share your tracks and it is a valid reason when we read your explanation, but I still think it has two very bad side-effects. First, as I said it before, you keep all the credit for other people's work by not giving the name of the tracks you play. It's like putting a quote in a text, but without the name of the author or the book it's coming from. The second bad side-effect is that it means that you see other DJs as competition. I think that this is even worse.

I think that if you see other DJs as "competition", then it's no surprise that a DJ playing before you will want to "burn" all your big tracks. There is probably a lot more to be gained at collaborating with other DJs and sharing than there is to be lost by seeing another DJ play a track that you found. I personnaly think that there's more than enough room for people with talent out there that we don't need to put ourselves in each other's way. Having the scene as a big competition between DJs is certainly not a way to keep it healthy and going and certainly not a way of bringing better music to everyone.

It happened to me quite a few times that I was playing before or after a DJ that plays tracks that I have and we would discuss beforehand who got to play which tracks to make sure we both played the ones we prefered and that the first DJ did not burn all the bombs. That was only possible because of the respect we paid each other. If we had seen each other as competition, then we simply wouldn't have discussed it and the first DJ would have burned all the bombs to piss the 2nd DJ off. Then it would have been more about ego than about sharing music and programming a banging night for everyone.

Nothing against you or your mix, but giving the tracklisting is the least you can do to give credit to the people who actually made the tracks you play. If these tracks are banging, then they certainly deserve the credit and the word of mouth to get more sales out of them. If you like the tracks, you should share them. My two cents...

I have the pleasure to anounce that my track Rocking Monster is [ www.djomni.net ] available on vynil on french label [ www.absolutfreak.com ] Freak Records, who released artists such as Laurent Garnier, Popof, John Dalhback and Xenia Beliayeva, just to name a few. I'm very happy to be released alongside such great producers.

For now, you can purchase it on Juno and several other online stores. Locally, Nice Music ordered some and should have it in stock sometimes next week if you want to pick up a copy.

It's a one-sided picture disc.

Exerp:
1. [ www.absolutfreak.com ] Monster

[ www.djomni.net ] on Juno (Or at Nice Music as of next week)

For those who purchase their music digitally, the track will also be available on Beatport in the near future. I'll keep you posted.

WHEREAS IF YOU SEE, SAY, METALLICA ON A LINEUP, YOU KNOW THAT YOU'RE NOT GOING TO BE GETTING 5 GUYS STARING AT LAPTOPS CLICKING BUTTONS AND TWEAKING KNOBS.

EXACTLY.

It all comes down to what type of music the person is playing. I don't see myself coming on a stage with a band anytime soon for an "unplugged" version of my show... The "live" show of any type of music should be as close as possible to the process of creating the music, except that you cut out all the random playing around and only play the actual tracks that were made. If the original song was made with instruments, it should be played live with instruments. If the original track was made with a computer and a sequencer of some sort, software or hardware, then the "live" version of it should involve a computer and a sequencer. That's it.

If you mean to say that using a laptop or sequencer for an electronic music live PA is "not a real live" because it does not allow for improvisation, then you should consider the following:
1. Depending on how the show is set-up, it is very possible to integrate a certain level of suprise and improvisation, if you have the balls for it.
2. Should we then say that any band playing there songs in a show exactly the way they rehearsed it is "not really playing live" because they are not improvising?

Now I do agree that a lot of electronic "live PAs" are bullshit because absolutely everything is pre-sequenced and the person is just bouncing around and pretending to actually be doing something. That, I agree, is real crap and I have been very disapointed in a lot of "lives" just because of that. However, if the person set-up the show so he or she actually has to interact with the gear in some way at all times to keep the show going and is not just pretending to do something, then I respect that.

Electric Music (The Remixes) is now available on Beatport! It is the follow-up to my single [ www.rave.ca ] Music released a little over a month ago. It includes remixes by Gabriel Batz and Nick Bugayev.

Here are exerps:
1. [ ] Music (Gabriel Batz Remix)
2. [ ] Music (Nick Bugayev Remix)

It's an honor for me to be remixed by Gabriel Batz and Nick Bugayev because I consider both of them to be much better producers than I am.

[ www.gabrielbatz.com ] Batz is a rising star on the international trance and progressive house scenes with releases on labels such as Armada and Coldharbour. He is also successfully runs his own label, Ora Recordings. His productions have been played by Tiesto, Armin Van Buren and Sasha, just to name a few. His remix is a prog-house bomb perfectly calibrated for the dancefloor and tightly produced

[ www.nickbugayev.com ] Bugayev studied electroacoustic music at the Montreal Music Conservatory. As a producer, he as a wide variety of experiences that ranges from house, trance and electro to film and videogame music. Here, he delivers a sublime remix in a unique style that is very hard to pigeonhole. A flawless prog-house production with trance influences, with a smooth progression that builds up to a euphoric climax. A synth sound and progression that is reminescent of some Deadmau5 tracks.

Little suggestion for the invites. If I have not been "invited" to an event but I am listed there as a DJ, I should be allowed to see it. At the moment, there is a party that has listed my name as a DJ, so it shows up in my DJ profile, but when I click it, it says "you have not been invited, loozer".

WTF, I'm not a loooozer, I'm booked to play at the fucking party. :)
