Have some free time and looking for some material to master to get used to my new studio setup. I don't master professionally but i'm still pretty darn good. Would prefer tracks that don't sound like shit from producers that don't suck. The offer ends monday.

here is an example of the latest dance track i mixed and mastered ( altho it is a few years old ) . Sorry about the mp3.

you can't make a dynamic disk out of a disk that is already dynamic. Having a partition makes it dynamic by default.

I have never claimed to know everything. FOr example, when i was fucking your sister last week , i had a heck of a time finding her G spot. I would of figured it would be in the same area your mom's spot was considering the strong research being done that supports evidence that G spot location is heavily reliant on genetic information. Despite this truism , i honestly couldn't find it. You have no fucking idea how hard it was to concentrate on finding it while me and my 2 closet male friends where spit roasting her like it was 1999. The worst part was that your little sister kept gagging and eventually threw up which made the search that much harder.

I'm trying to recover some data on a stripped raid array. I'm not sure why the array won't work since installing windows but i'm convinced the data is still on there but for some reason , the lookup table is messed up and as a result won't work. I an trying some software that can analyze the array and export the image but the only problem is that the array is 600 gigs which makes it pretty hard to export a file that big.

I have a computer networked with the one i'm trying to fix which has that much free space but it is spanned across a few drives of which none are completely empty making it impossible to make a traditional partition that size. \so i'm wondering if there is a way to make a virtual drive from all the free space i have that can be 600 gigs in size.

thanks
Rich

the tc bundle is their old school vst plugin thing they made years ago. You don't need the powercore. The waves c1 can also do it. As far as when to use it? i suppose the main use is to make the bass duck around the kick but you can use it for lots of other stuff. Using a kick trigger to add some rythmic motion to a pad or carving some space in a percussion group bus.

thought it was pretty good considering it was 10$

the sound in the trance room was absolute shit tho. The lighting was also completely non existant but i suppose you can't expect much for 10$. I was kinda blown away by how bad some of the local talent was. A dj playing out shouldn't be train wrecking, that is something bed room djs do. The way some djs would bring in tracks completely out of phrase as well as some of the djs that had absolutely no idea how to eq having both basses present made me chuckle. I'm sure it was alot worse considering how fucking goobered i was. I did think the actual people there were generally all pleasant and no gang bs like i am used to when i used to go to these things in calgary.

It is too bad the promoters didn't charge a little more and put more effort into the party with lighting and maybe some djs that actually knew how to dj. I think 45 minute sets are kinda rediculous and usually end up in djs just playing all their hits .I also was a little blown away by how most of the djs were kinda huge dorks with absolutely no stage presence. OH well. The lineup was a little weird having the night end with some of the fastest music. Maybe i didnt' do the right drugs but at 7 am , you should be playing something a little slower because unless you are a a complete speed freak , you won't have energy to dance.

Again i suppose i'm just listing things they could improve on but i thought i got my moneys worth. I mean i really can't expect anything more for 10$ so i suppose given those restraints , it was great. So maybe just keep those things in mind for next time.

One other thing i noticed that could be dangerous , of course it didn't seem like there were any gangmembers there like there are in calgary but there was no checking for weapons in the rear entrance. I suppose having come from a place were people get shot if you don't use metal detectors at the raves , it seemed a little sloppy but oh well. It did allow me to smuggle in all my beer so it was very nice.

bell center doesn't adjust their ticket prices for when you get them so they have no reason to save any. Events that charge more at the door can take advantage of it.

you would only be afraid of not selling out with that many presales if you have never thrown events before. It is a calculated risk that will end up getting you more money 9.9 times out of 10.

a promoter should never sell out of tickets in advance.

There is a simple formla to sell enough that you will be guaranteed to sell the rest at the door allowing you a certain number of tickets at 20$ thus making you more money.

If you have sold 80 presale , you will sell out at the door. So imagine if 100 people bought tickets at the door, the promoter would of made 1000$ extra.

Oh well. things you learn after doing it lots. There are books about event economics with some pretty standard formulas that apply to pretty much everything including dancing events.

I was actually planning to go and laugh at a bunch of you. Shucks eh.

knowing more about music will help someone write better tracks so yes , using piano as a tool to discover music theory will help you write better songs.

do you honestly think the top studio drummers can accurately say why they groove more than others? It is something acquired almost sub consciously after years of playing and listening. Most of the imperfections are often not as calculated as you think but those slight distortions around the beat are what makes something sound great. It is why it takes a musician 20 years to not suck.

the imperfections might be reproducable every time by the musician and they might be calculated but they sure as hell don't come anywhere near quantized music which is what you seem to think is the only way. I know you are young and thus dumb but hopefully you open your eyes.

do you think for a second that this would fit in any sort of quantization grid. You aren't a musician so just shut up already. You have absolutely no clue what i am talking about.

Update » madforbrad wrote on Fri Jul 27, 2007 @ 1:44pm
the only music that is perfectly quantized is amateur dance music. PRo dance producers will disaplace certain beats by micro seconds to make a beat push more. Rap music does the same.

i don't want to argue with you because you are way out of your league and you have absolutely no insight as far as music outside of the small electronic subgenre you make. The reason you don't see value in a keyboard is because you make music that relies on about 90% sound design and maybr 5% music. You might not need a keyboard but to assume that someone else won't without even taking the time to find out what sort of music they make is absolutely assinine.

If you are serious about music and want to expand your harmonic language to something a little more interesting than 2 note chords , get a keybaord. Every big producer in every genre of music including dance uses a keyboard and alot of the good ones actually play patterns to make things less robotic and stale. Imperfections in music are what makes music great. The reason why something actually grooves is due to imperfections in timing that add a certain pull or push to anchored beats. You could spend hours moving notes to achieve it or just play the god damn thing and save yourself hours.

I suggest you buy something with full 88 keys and full weighted because learning to play piano and the theory behind it is something every producer should do and it will be a treat to actually use rather than some really small 8 note keyboard.

Update » madforbrad wrote on Fri Jul 27, 2007 @ 10:42am
you know i should of just said who isn't using a keyboard instead of who does

the only producers that don't use a keyboard are amateur dance producers. Everyone else does. Spending 500$ on such a valuable tool is a no brainer for me.

the whole reason why people pay musicians alot of money to play on albums is because those human imperfections make an album actually sound good and groove rather than the quantised bullshit electro garbage you make. You don't have a keyboard because your production involves such little emphasis on music that i suppose you do'nt need one. Fair game , but don't say that someone won't have use for it. Unless you plan to make shitty rave music the rest of your life. Even so ,most dance producers will actually play things so that it isn't perfect and detract from the negative qualities of having everything " perfect " .
