better still... learn how to properly balance your tone-arm... and check the recommended tracking weight for your cartridge... set it to near the minimum... and learn how to handle records without having them jump all over the place.

As a preview for the MEME Festival in Winnipeg [ www.memetic.ca ] PHASE-ONE Radio [ ckuw.ca ] will be broadcasting an exclusive new fishead mix this evening, followed by an hour of vintage material...

The new mix covers all kinds of territory, and features classic cuts on Warp, Rephlex, Distort, Bloody Fist, Minus, Basic Channel... and newer material on Modern Love, Void Tactical Media, Kranky, Mexican Summer and more...

The vintage material is expected to be a broadcast of the Systematic Destruction mixtape - in it's entirety... dark, dark, dark drum'n'bass followed by an explosive mix of hardcore, speedcore and noise.

to be fair... I haven't eaten meat in 20+ years... but the autobiography of Col. Harlan Sanders is one of the most awesome books I've ever read... it's pretty much written in redneck... found it in a used bookshop years ago - totally amazing.

as for the food... I remember liking the smell of fried chicken, but even before they kill 'em - chicken is some nasty shit. I don't care if you eat meat, there are plenty of great animals to eat - chicken ain't one of them... I mean, I grew up on the prairies... friends worked 'chicken pulls'... and my grandfather had a farm with chickens (and cows, a lot of crops and even some beehives). Let me tell you; those birds will eat anything. They're simply filthy creatures.

you could also go the crazy cheap route... hit up RONA for some ear protection headphones (serious noise cancellation) - and then get a set of cheap headphones and stick 'em inside.

I've played 100,000+ watt sound systems with mine - and the drivers inside came out of the free headphones that came with a $10 walkman.

I took out the nipple rings a couple of years before I started actively training in jiu-jitsu... but did a fair amount of scrapping when I did have them in... always had a shirt on, never really had a problem. In truth, sex was probably more hazardous for my nipple than fighting was... 'cause ladies always had fun pinching, pulling, tugging and nibbling... and nobody ever went for that in a fight.

extensive archive featuring pretty much all the mixes I've made public over the last decade or so... some of them are a bit embarrassing to listen to, some of them are way better than I remember them being...

a couple of highlights:
20M is the 20th Anniversary mix that I put together for Brave New Waves: 20 records in 20 minutes - one from each year 1984-2003... mixed on three turntables and broadcast on CBC FM in February '05. They requested that it not stick to any particular genre - it doesn't... Severed Heads, 2 Live Crew, New Order, Pop Will Eat Itself, Renegade Soundwave, Sonic Youth, Cranes, The Orb, Calexico, Venetian Snares, Dr. Octagon, Blackalicious - it's all over the place.

Eat Shit:
The a-side to the justifiably infamous Eat Shit & Die split cassette... the mixtape that got Venetian Snares picked up by History of the futurE....

Systematic - Destruction:
the two companion sides to a mixtape that winds it's way through hard, dark drum'n'bass on the a-side - and turns into a full-on hardcore assault on the flip side... meant to be listened to one after the other.

can't believe this one slipped my mind...

2004 Canadian DMC champ... 2009 Juno award winner for best instrumental album... his second album dropped late last year... it's all pretty awesome stuff - although it pushes outside the downtempo region at times... Well-worth checking out. I lived with the guy for a couple of years, and wrote the liner notes for the new album, so you can maybe dismiss it as me being a shill, but I'd recommend digging into some of the audio available online before making that decision.

a lot of my favourite albums to relax to fall outside the confines of electronic... The Screamadelica album by Primal Scream is a great example - as are a lot of the shoe-gaze releases from the same period: Souvlaki by Slowdive, the Half-Life and Flesh Baloon EPs by Pale Saints, Spooky by Lush... and Victorialand by Cocteau Twins are all great places to look for non-electronic ambience.

Eno's been mentioned a few times here, but his collaborators are also worth investigating... the Belladonna album by Daniel Lanois is phenomenally chill, Low by David Bowie has a very calm second side, and pretty much everything by Harold Budd is golden.

No answer pussy asshole? I'll see you in real life.

shit like that's just fucked up... and is indicative of some kind of issue. I mean, it should be patently obvious that ANY kind of celebrity invites criticism... and for better, or for worse, this guy's habits (amateur film-making, photo-taking and questionable self-portraits) have given him enough 'celebrity' that he's become a bit of a target...

Someone needs to fuckin' deal with it. Seriously.... and I don't mean to individually (and physically) deal with the haters...

I mean... I've been getting shit from people who hate what I play for years... and I've always chalked it up to the simple fact that if you cross paths with enough people then you are bound to find some that hate you. There are some very rational ways of dealing with haters:
1> Decide their criticism is baseless and ignore them.
2> Realize they've made some valid points, thank them for helping your evolution, and alter your path accordingly.
3> Agree to disagree... some people have different tastes, and maybe they don't find your artistic direction terribly interesting. If things stay respectful and honest, then perhaps the discourse is meaningful enough that you'll realize you've found that rarest of allies: one that you can be certain will never shy away from giving you their honest opinion.

Issuing threats is simply dense. Issuing threats in WRITTEN FORM is exponentially more moronic.

Then again, I'm not the one posing for photos with folks that are pretty obviously too young to have completed their higher education - and using that as the basis for complaints that I'm unable to meet anyone with a degree.

I was stupid enough to stretch them, too... I got the vertical piercing up to a 2ga flesh tunnel. I think the horizontal was at 6ga when I took it out.... it was a lot of fun for about ten years.
