yeah! better yet, get the dvd and watch the whole show -- between the scratch dj and the singer having a smoke, plus the orchestra; makes you shiver ...

one day i'll get booked for a chill room, so i can play Portishead, Massive Attack, Apex Twin, Leftfield, the Orb, Dj Shadow, Dj Krush -- all that great 90's/early 00's trip-hop/acid jazz shit =)

Chill Out by The KLF. Brilliant shit. Imho, it's still the reference point for what an ambient mix can and should be... a solid hour that takes you on a trip, condensed down from a marathon 11-hour session at Trancentral... featuring Jim Cauty, Bill Drummond, Alex Patterson... fucking amazing.
I'm feeling new records right now..

shouldn't be too hard to find... KLF Communications released it in the UK - it was licensed to TVT for north america... as far as I know it should still be available on cd... which means chances are it can be found online.

can't believe this one slipped my mind...

2004 Canadian DMC champ... 2009 Juno award winner for best instrumental album... his second album dropped late last year... it's all pretty awesome stuff - although it pushes outside the downtempo region at times... Well-worth checking out. I lived with the guy for a couple of years, and wrote the liner notes for the new album, so you can maybe dismiss it as me being a shill, but I'd recommend digging into some of the audio available online before making that decision.

a lot of my favourite albums to relax to fall outside the confines of electronic... The Screamadelica album by Primal Scream is a great example - as are a lot of the shoe-gaze releases from the same period: Souvlaki by Slowdive, the Half-Life and Flesh Baloon EPs by Pale Saints, Spooky by Lush... and Victorialand by Cocteau Twins are all great places to look for non-electronic ambience.

Eno's been mentioned a few times here, but his collaborators are also worth investigating... the Belladonna album by Daniel Lanois is phenomenally chill, Low by David Bowie has a very calm second side, and pretty much everything by Harold Budd is golden.
I'm feeling new records right now..

Check out Ninja Tunes.... Really good compilations on that label. My fave is Zen Cuts is my fave. A lil but of everything. Also check out Jazz Breaks, Mr Scruff I wouldn't say its all Downtempo but it has that laid back jazzy feel.
