project mayhem definatly deserves a spot there yeah! but yeah i guess your right though, a whole lot of people have a lot of negative things to say and not a whole lot of positive... i say big up to everyone pushing the boundries and making great events, yes there are still some of those around even if, for some reason, the shitty parties are getting quite a bit of attention these days (the bad kind of publicity y'know?)
I'm feeling sinus right now..

I don't wanna be negative Nancy here but despite every positive feedback we could give here, promoters are not going to listen to us.

What ? I hope nobody honestly believes this is the FIRST time we spill the beans and attempt to make promoters understand ? It's cyclic : in a few months from now, yet another crappy party will be thrown in the humongous pile of crappy raves repertoire we have in town and people will offer their opinions all over again.

And it's fine, it's part of the " OMG I can't believe I spent 20$ on that " grieving process we all experience.

On the flipside, YES. We mustn't forget those who do and STILL do an outstanding job and deserves our praise.

Maybe we should start a thread of promoters who do the right thing and explain there WHAT partygoers appreciate the most about these promoters' parties.

Whatever. I'm pretty sure that if you need this thread to throw a party you shouldn't be throwing a party.

And to all the people who are complaining about 20$.... I'm sorry but I saw this one coming a long time ago. Competent people throw competent parties...that's all I'm going to say.
I'm feeling wtf charles? right now..

This thread aint to bitch about parties in the past that were problematic.

Its to inform the new kids who are planning their first party, or are considering throwing a party,
that making a rave go down smoothly does involve some planning, foresight, resources, and preparation.

Because it seems these days being a promoter is the new fad and everyone wants to jump on the bandwagon.

Which is all well and good, we need more quality events. What we don't need is kids being overly ambitious,
trying to throw a party without much experience or know-how, and ending up with sub-par events that
hurt the reputation of this scene, and make ravers not want to risk their time and money on
sketchy parties by staying home.
I'm feeling loco right now..

I remember a few years back, EVERYONE wanted to be a DJ...with disastrous results. Raves were - and still are - flooded with a ton of wannabe DJs with zero experience and lots of cash so next thing you know, they have a full setup in their parent's basement ( sorry but REAL DJs use THEIR money to buy equipment ) and a month later, expected to be booked in all parties, which they were since the parties were done by wannabe promoters.

Unfortunately, that left raves with about 20% of ACTUAL DJs who knew what the fuck they were doing behind the decks.

Now, replace the word " DJ " with " PROMOTER " in the above text and ironically eniough, you've got today's party-throwing situation.

Ha not to mention it makes it harder for people to get started as a good dj/promoter. Everyone has to start somewhere, but there's a right way to do it. Fuck I've been mixing for about a year and a half now and producing for about 5 1/2 years, and I'm only starting to play out now. Every dj should spend minimum a year practicing in there studio/bedroom before they even think of doing a live show. It takes a lot longer then a few months to master the art of eq'ing/beatmatching and not to mention finding good / harder to find music.

Honestly it really pisses me off to see people I know have only really been involved with the scene as a whole for a few months play shows. Anyways, I wouldn't call the the parties they play at real raves.

And ha don't bash the parents basement. I'm italian... I'm pretty sure the entire family would disown me if I decided to move out now.

And I have a question. I'm thinking of starting a company that does lighting equipment rental/setup and has a supplied technician(me) available all night. I already have a little collection of lighting starting and am going to def. be buying more in the future. I'm also gonna be helping out a friend and providing some lighting near the end of june. How much would the promoters here honestly be willing to dish out for lighting? I've noticed that almost all the raves I've been to (minus anything done by tech safari) really have inadeqate lighting/deco. And any lighting they do have is horribly set up. So... how much are you guys really willing to dish out?
I'm feeling wtf charles? right now..

hmm another point to consider when you're a promoter is the calendar of events... that means don't throw a huge party with a headliner within a week or two of another huge party with another headliner the same style of music...
and also don't make parties every weekend leaving no place for the other promoters... everyone should get a chance to make events once in a while, and too much parties make less people at each party, and that means a hard times for promoters and everyone is a loser in the end.
I'm feeling . right now..

Don't spend your hard earned money on lights, sketchy ravepromoters don't have the money to rent them anyways, and honestly are u willing to rent ur brand new stuff to a dirty warehouse party which could get shut down by the police any time during the night?

I bought lots of lights, lasers, strobes and other stuff, i have proper stands for them, and now they're just sitting in my closet, and only rent them to people i can trust, and that is a very small amount of people..

Obviously you've never been to Circa, it's not exactly a raver place, and this entire ad is just misleading. AD/D is actually a clubby club night with clubby club people and that place is outrageously expensive. LIES.

I don't know why the discussion is about throwing raves, considering raves died back in 2001, some say even earlier, but ok... for any event you have to be professional, like look into everything that it's going to take to throw it instead of glossing it over.
