 Coolness: 166560 | yeah what the fuck is up with you host one for judging my priorities? i don't want to go to your whatever party anyways so i don't know, have fun with your friends while getting paid for your 'talent'. it's a whole other lifestyle man, i just don't feel concerned for that. the only party i have organized is earthdance and it was free, and whoever dj feels the cause is right comes and plays. even if they are just beginners and stuff, if they want to play fucking go ahead! it's all in friendly fun anyways.
putting up deco... it's not as if i was just 'putting it up' like you buy christmas stuff at the dollarama. when i talk about a good deco job i'm actually conceptualizing, creating, installing... it takes a lot of time working in my room (two to three months preparation for a new deco), and one or two days before the party running around with ladders and stuff to install it, it is a full-time job in itself that doesn't get paid, i just think it's fun to do and i have the imagination for it so i do it that's all. so you and your 'hippie-slackers' words can go fuck yourself, because this is work too. and your other remark about how it's about me floating around at parties... we're all here to party anyways right? so if you can bring something to the party and make the scene grow and make people happy that's great. but i'm not gonna pay 40$ to go to a party just because the djs think they deserve it, i'm gonna organize a party with my friends and we'll be the ones playing music even though it's not perfect, we'll have fun. i have a life too fuck, i can't afford to pay for your 'talent'. so... maybe you'd better make rich friends? lol. seriously though, le d said it right. contract makes the whole thing clear from the start, and i know most people tend to respect their engagements... otherwise they're going down... :p |

Before you commit and play a party enquire about how much you will get and reach a verbal or written agreement. If the promoter tells you you won't be getting paid, then you won't be getting paid If the promoter tells you will get paid "x" amount of dollars, then thats what you get paid It dosen't matter if the party's empty, the promoter pays, even if it comes out of his/her pocket the next week. And none of this "oh do it for the love and shut up shit". I can garantee you that line won't fly with me. I'll come knocking on your door until you pay up and believe me no promoter has ever stiffed the Bliss Now in this situation, since the promoters and the djs seem to have agreed that the deal was no one was getting paid...then no one gets paid and everyone shuts up. Bind was wrong to make that request and especially ask for $500.00 (dude we booked Krafty Kuts for $400.00 a few years ago, lets be reasonable now). I've been playing breaks in the 514 for much longer than any of you cats and I still wouldn't dream of asking for that much. I honestly usually play the breaks nights in Montreal for my cab fare cause I want to support the music and encourage new nights and I know that most of these nights don't make a lot of money. However on the flipside the promoters were wrong to bring it up publicly, especially if the djs DID END UP playing for free, its kind of ungrateful to diss them after. And the Jewish commment was just plain wrong (I personally wouldn't want to play any of your events after reading that, especially for free, and I've not even Jewish lol!) Lastly, its not the job of the dj to bring the people, but the promoter... The dj's job is too reasearch and present the music, the promoters job to bring the people. No people = Bad promoter |

Yeah, I dunno about you, but I've chilled with Bind a few times before, and I really don't think he'd be one to unresonably request that much money. I think that the 500$ figgure that was thrown out was inflated just a little much to gather sympathy for not paying his DJ. And if you read the original post (cutting out the bit about his "requesting 500$" because, as I said, I am 99.9% certain that that's absolute BULLSHIT): i told him sorry and that i would give him his measly 30$ during the week. first of all your nobody, second of all i told you i'd get you during the week, i didn't feel like going to the bank for you...
If you're gonna have DJs play at your event, you pay them at your event, BEFORE they go up and play, and the only exception I can see to that being that if it's like your best friend throwing the party and you know for 100% certain that you're going to get your cash by the end of the night or the next day. If you aren't on extremely close terms with the DJ playing at your party, you should consider yourself LUCKY if the DJ will play without at the very least half his cash in his hand before his set. |

But anywas based from what I know... indigoanja made it clear at the begining that there was a good chance nobody would be getting paid. Secondly I know this was alot more of a personal party and that FREE space cake was given out to everybody. I alone ate about 50$ worth of fucking space cake. Secondly the dj's did get one bear. Based on that I think that the dj's, all being locals, got a pretty good deal out of this, and I think that all you dj's out there will agree that this is a little more then fair. 500$.... that's pretty fucking retarded. I'm not sure whether it's true or not... but if it is, that is a ridiculous sum of money to be asking for. Regardless of how many vinyls you baught, your still only doing 1 hour of work.
