Serious or not that was a shortsighted comment, and Im not just saying that cause my last name's Shalom. and kishmay, that works both ways, without us 'hippies dancing all night' (i assume 'hippy' is supposed to carry some negative connotation with it- as opposed to some rational egoist out for cash) there would be noone to play psychedelica to and get paid at all. Sure $ is one part, but if thats what ppl are gonna start harping on ill be much less glad to shell out anything to support em, i for one would be honoured to take ppl on a musical journey, and would ask nothing -aside from bare costs- more unless other djs were getting more (which means it could be afforded). If you dont have the same committment as indigoajna, das kool, but your vicious response shows u dont understand it either. And no aggressiveness intended, but fuck, theres no reason to be so reactionary.

all Kishmay might have meant:
I've spent 1000$ on my equipment, training and music. No I don't expect to make it anytime soon, but it was an investment, not a splurge of cash for no reason. I do hope one day to become good enough to be paid large amounts though, not cause I'm greedy, but to pay off the gear and my time...
I'm feeling home again right now..

Trance in my Pants said "i for one would be honoured to take ppl on a musical journey, and would ask nothing -aside from bare costs"

So what have I been talkin to myself here?

Peace and Love and a healthy scene don;t buy records, don't get my ass home at night, and sure as hell don't put food on the table.
Egoist out for cash, you see someone say pay the dj and suddenly I am a capitalist egoist out for cash
Bitch pls
Oh and i wasn't being reactionary, i was being incendiary get it right!
I'm feeling like a beer right now..

just cause Psychadelica DJ's dont get dick doesnt mean we have to take that shit, we actually play on turnatables and have RECORD costs, REAL disc Jokcey TALENT, not some mp3 slanging hippy that wants to take ppl on free musical journeys......and the comment about Dj Bind veing nobody, uhh I think thats the other way around...seeing how you dont have enough friends to help you pay the talent YOU HIRES for you party, ass...."PLUR" and "Healthy Scene" doesnt get our gear back home safely with a cheeseburger on our plate...and we arent talking hundreds here, were talking enough to get our respect and move on to next year, you think that ever gonna happen again? LOL Enjoy going to parties where all you hear is trainwrecks from now on then...because you dont want to pay ACTUAL good DJ's...ps I KNOW there is some kind of consiparcy behind this so called event...I'm just to angry to talk abut it right now...

um no, i did not say YOU were the egoist out for cash, ive never rly met you so cant say that to be sure, i just meant that you seemed to say hippie dancing all night was some indication of following a false dream, rather than being purely concerned with geting funds. Cause thats what we should be doin of course, dammit! But yeah, you should make enough for your equipment, but also of course djing is a risk, and not everyone comes out on top.. :D hehe and yes incendiary..which often goes hand in hand with sensationalism ;) -dam you and your big words, and your small, difficult words.'

ok so what do you mean? since you seem to think drum n bass djs are so fucking much better than psy... and that djs who make trainwrecks (whatever that is, i'm not a dj lol) suck... well to me that is what being elitist is. or maybe that's what you call being 'real'. but everyone is as real as you are, doing their own thing. you got to stop being judgemental or something...
and i'm not a man, man.

oh fucking come on! I play psy and yes i do burn some records... basically those I dont find in stores! I'll buy a record even if I've already played it out while I had it burned... as for the talent thing, that's to be discussed in that other thread so wtv

Now about the money thing... now, I mean... for fucks sake just dont accept a gig if you know you know you're not getting paid... if the promoter promised cash and is not dishing out what he promised then yeah he is definatly wrong.

playing for free means losing money (considering all costs which are, gear and records and lifts)... it means the dj is paying to be there... now in return the said dj might get some exposure but otherwise I'd say the dj'd be doing a favor to the promter. Djing costs are pretty high... I mean to be relatively up to date I try to buy maybe two albums or compilations so thats a good 40 bucks every week... so if I only get a gig every month... thats like 160$ spent per gig... I think I would get my ass laughed at if I was to ask for that much... Paying a dj means he's gonna be able to buy more records (and copy less) means the records companies'll be able to put out more artists and distribute em better... maybe sign some more people... maybe we could start a stable psy label in montreal... bigger parties, more paying bookings for djs... a dollar given to a dj is a dollar invested into the scene

the first person that has to take a risk in this cycle is the promoter and yes promoting is very fucking hard work (errr yes i know what its like promoting... sysmyk storm anyone?) and granted, we also need parties that are just fucking parties... we get a room, we drink, we play tracks... we celebrate fucking christmas! just fucking party to party, no risks, no cash no fucking stress just party... anyways... gosh I need a drink!

Now! about the party! fucking sucks I missed it from what you guys said... party next year?
I'm feeling a storm brewing right now..

This is ridiculous, Goanne...you just said you wouldnt care if the Dj fucks off? Your priorities are out of wack, you dont think the hired Talent needs to get payed before your well being, so your selfish too...when in FACT we are WORKING so you can have a good time...this specific christmas party IS to have good time but the ppl hired to make it that way need COMPENSATION!

And why are we still talking about the Anti-Semetic comments? The were said, and now you feel the need to justify cause your fuckin name is Shalom? Get lives ppl, put down the acid, maybe some cells'l grow back in time. Fucking hippies man....piss me off.
Update » greatjob wrote on Wed Dec 27, 2006 @ 7:39pm

A dj who wants to get paid as every right to ask. However, such things are better discussed before the party. Both dj and promoter have to live with that aggreement at the party, no matter how many ravers showed up. If the dj decides that he doesn't want the pay after a party didn't work, it's his choice, but a promoter can't force it.

It's called a contract, and it's the best way to do business. Even a verbal agreement is ok, just discuss those things. And djs, if you want to get paid, remember to ask the promoter. Good promoters will be happy to discuss this with you, and offer you a reasonnable pay.

Dude, your Jewish last name does not excuse the anti semetic remarks made earlier by the PROMOTER of these parties (by you saying that his comments were near sighted, that called JUSTIFYING)...you wanna keep playing dumb go ahead...im not sticking around to listen to this bullshit. And hippies are evasive and dont have the slightest idea of what its like to BUST YOUR ASS for someone (we aint talking putting up decorations either) that isnt planning on paying for the services...you guys just think the wind will take you wherever youre supposed to be...Bahahaha, yeah...thats reality. Suuure.

xcuse you? those comments were DiSgUsTiNg, (but also who can say they have never made a foolish comment in bad taste?) and they ARE totally demeaning, I am in no way trying to justify them. and by the way if going to uni + working upwards of 60 hrs a week isnt acquainting yourself w busting your ass, i shudder to think what is.. id love to play a party and make a buck - not that I feel that it isnt hard work either (fail to see how deco setup cant be painstaking & xhausting too), or that someone w a bohemian vibe is by default lazy. anyway didnt mean to endorse those comments, sorry ya took it like that
