DnB parties will get better...
without the sketch balls.
We'Re about to have a venue dedicated to it.
Just leave me more time.
And come to my parties more often. (i.e. every friday)

Here's where it gets tricky. Is there any hope for this raver culture, or, has it come to an end ten years after the legendary parties of the early 90s the way the hippies and beatniks all faded away after a similar time, succumbing to similar indulgences and vanities? Or is it the same spirit transforming with the technology and social awareness of the times, creating, emerging, growing, thriving, and ultimately being exploited by the greed and reluctance of the very members who created it and forged its early years? What's next then? Can there be a culture of hope and optimism in a world where there is no reason to believe such a concept, especially over the last few years? Or will the suffocating culture of fear we exist in cause an even more wonderful explosion of creation in defiance? Let people create freely and it is indulged by the comfortable wealthy citizens who are inspired by nothing; make creation illegal and only the truest artists will take the risk to express themselves.
Where do we go from here? Sorry about this one.

He wanted to be called Six. He came from Laval and had a breakers crew. last thing i heard about him, was that he opened a pawn shop or something. this was a few years ago.

I played gigs with some of the Vinyl Syndicate guys... I remember playing right after Slip'n'Slide at this party called Primal. They seemed offended with I mixed I Want Your Sex by George Micheal into their last track as soon as they stepped away from the decks.

Troy Geary is the real DJ Slip - always has been - always will be.

I was in Toronto at the Scott Brown party and I gotta say I was fucking scared at the number of insanely high people. That party had more vomit than any party I've ever been to.

If Montreal has more drug users / harder drug users, y'all can hold your shit better than TO, that's for sure

I agree that seeing someone getting sick because he's completely fucked up on drug isn't fun. However, you shouldn't blame candy kids for it. I think that the best way to bring back the "oldschool vibe" would be to stop arguing and judging everyone. I wasn't there in 1994, but from what I understood, different people were just reuniting to have fun toghether without worrying about details such as style or attitude.

I think that snob attitudes are what is killing the scene.

I think that sketchy promoters, a lack of support and people not buying pre-sale tickets are killng the scene.

I think it's an overanalysis. At a party with the music blaring and everyone pleasantly buzzed, it's really easy for everyone to get along. But take these same people and put them on the same message board 9-5 every day and you have 23 year olds arguing with 16 year olds about foreign policy, drug usage, the validity of one genre over all others. All of a sudden, everyone realizes that everyone else is a fucking asshole. It's hard to feel the PLUR when you know half the people at any given party because of bullshit off the internet.

Candykids aren't the cause of the rave scene going to drug hell just a byproduct of it!

what I think is making the scene go pleh is the splitting...
I explain.
Before, we had only one party every month or so, and the scene was united between all genres.

And now, we have tons of parties every week end, and it's all going separate ways.
Hardcore party, happy party, house party, dnb party, etc...
We don't know which one to choose :P

Or maybe the scene is too big now...
me thinks we should go back to the Underground, where everybody was united and supported each other, even if they had different tastes in music.

And Soul Trey... awesome thread! It's crazy some of the big name superstars we had at our parties that were virtual nobodies back in the day.

ya thanks. i know it's hilarious. all those artists started playing at raves before making it big.

:
hahaha, that is what i thought back in summer of 95.

on june 3, there were 2 raves in the same night...

EMERGENCE (L.O.S.T., DJam, Mobius, Synergie) at the sugar shack
STAMINA (Crazy & Spectro) i think it was at the old Taz Mahal. i'm not sure.

2 groups of friends going to 2 different party. i decided to stay home and listen to Emergence live via university radio.
that night sucked big time for me. not only cuz i miss both parties but i knew the lack of communications and the competitions between the promoters didn't help the fledging rave scene :( :( :(

but this is supposed to be about 1994. stories about 95 would have to be told another day.

sidenote; Crazy & Spectro would band and later be known as 514

Very interesting thread indeed...
I think I probably have a few flyers from back in the day also. I was looking through my old 'flyer box' (I used to keep all my party flyers...hehe), I think I have the Enigma party flyers, maybe Emergence too. I'll try to post them.
