exactly. it's the attitude that drugs are needed to have a good time at a rave that made me stop going.

i went to at least a dozen raves and i was never on anything. no e, speed, acid, pot, etc. and i had an incredible time at all of them.

i was able to be sober and still trip on the music, the friends and the vibe.

The big downside of going to parties sober though is you are more critical of the music, so if the music is bad.. You notice...

only if you're a snobby producer... hehehe...

but seriously, i go to raves for the music, so if the music is crappy, i don't mind noticing that.

damn i'm so sick of this never ending bullshit
"you go for the drugs but I go for the music..."
etc etc etc

my drug habits have nearly nothing to do with the fact i go to so called "raves"

as far as I'm concerned the Drugs Vs Music/Music Vs Drugs debate is so lame it's not even worth talking about anymore

the people who do drugs (the GetHighs)always feel as though they have to justify themselves to everybody

the people who don't do drugs (the StraightEdgers) are alway pulling this snob act on everyone else

it is the way of things

I don't feel like i have to justify myself to anyone but myself if i wanna get high, I can do that. If I want to stay sober i can do that too. the only thing I can't do is both at once.

christ... why is everyone feeling attacked by my opinion? i'm not targeting any specific person, and certainly not anyone on his board. and i'm definetly not pulling a snob act.

there's no arguing the fact that there are hundreds of kids at every party who are there just to get high.

i'm not asking anyone to justify anything. i'm simply stating that i don't go to raves cause i'm sick of the kids who are there to get high.

Okay the ratio of ppl who are high or go to get high in a rave compared to those who arent... Well let's just say it's thumbs down for the soby ravers.

Kids can get high anywhere, there must be a reason they do it at a rave.... maybe they like the music? if not .. at least they get exposed to it.

but i've been with people who just took speed and just go to a bar. I ever heard some just do normal leisure stuff. bowling on speed wtf? This girl's mom takes e everytime she wants to clean the house.

They might be know as rave drugs but they expanded in all level of society

obviously it's a lot more fun to do it in an atmosphere like a rave where there's good music, no supervision, friends, aural/visual stimulation, etc.

drugs have been a stigma of the rave scene since the early days... which is pretty lame, but the media tends to gravitate towards the more sensationalist angles of everything.

personally, i've gone high, i've gone sober and i've gone drunk. What matters to me is the music. I don't sit and talk much(which must make me seem anti-social)cuz i'm there to listen to the beats.

Whatever works to get you in tune with the blissfull sounds is what counts, drugs are just the fastest way of achieving that (usually). I now prefer 3 beers or so just to get over my shyness as opposed to popping pills...

I'm pretty sure most psychonauts will say that what you can do with drugs can be done sober, it just takes more time/inner-connection/training/etc to get there while sober.

Some day i won't even need a couple of beers. The bonus about being able to love sober raving is the fact that you you don't need drugs to enjoy it. Simple. You go to a party, ooops, no drugs available, you can still have a blast. If you NEED the drugs to have fun (as i have many times in life) what happens when there aren't any?

I miss the purity of childhood when i didn't need coffee/cigs/drugs/booze to have a blast....try getting a gang of friends to hang out sober for a month now and see how fun it is...

In my opinion the 'peak' of the rave experience is most readily accessible through drugs. Frankly, as much as I've had amazing experiences partying sober (and most of my 1st year of partying WAS sober), they quite simply are on a different plane than my very best drug-enhanced parties.

While I do beleive that altered states of consciousness are accessible through meditation / visualization / etc, I think its the very rare person that can completely access the MDMA-induced state without a chemical aid.

Then again, one of the problems with the 'peak' rave + MDMA experience is precisely that it can be too good, making it difficult for some to maintain a sense of balance and moderation. So those who party sober are quite likely making a wise decision.

I party sober because I don't need to get high to dance like kwazzy and enjoy the music.

But not everybody is like that. So we should respect the differences. That's what makes the scene!
Diversity is a good thing! :D

almost an orgasm eh? i scan these just for you Cat :D

My first party in the state. :) there was a one bus from Montreal.
Camp Earth (in'94) was also held here and there was 2 buses of montrealers.
The pic of Camp Earth i took outside is the area designated as Camp FeelGood.

There was also a bus trip to this rave. (below)

Here's a funny little story.
i can't remember if it was Voyager, or Voyager 2, or one of the Sputnik, but i know for
sure it was in New York. (i have to verify the story, but i think it was Voyager 1)

2 montreal buses go to the NYC rave. After the party, one bus
left for montreal, one stayed to go to the afterparty. So they departed.
Unfortunely, the buses left one guy behind. I guess the bus organizers
assumed he was with the other bus.

So this poor guy, coming down from a high, was left at the rave. He didnt have any idea
where the afterparty was. He called his sister so he can get money via Western Union.
He takes a bus to the border and has to wait for the 2nd montreal bus (after everyone
finished partying at the after party) to arrived.

:lol bus trips were so much fun. but it was tough. i mean after a rave, you still have
to make a seven hour trip back to your comfy bed.

longest flyer ever. took me 6 scans!

i rwally need bigger scanner. :smokin

man, why do you guys keep justifying yourselves? why do you feel so attacked by my opinion? i'm not attacking any of you.

i'm simply stating the fact that i don't like all the little kids who go there simply for a high. i'm not saying any of you do that, and i'm not saying i hate the people who go to get high AND enjoy the music.

i may not agree with those who feel the need to party under an altered state of conciousness or a false reality, but i do respect your choice and right to do so. i'm not judging you and i'm don't think less of you because of it.
