i was simply referring to the "occupied" territories that you mentioned. the 1967 war is when the gaza strip and the west bank became "occupied" by israel. just making that point. i never said it was palestine's punishment now did i?
i said it was a punishment against the countries that attacked them, i.e. egypt and jordan.

ummmm the occupied territories were taken as the spoils of war after the 1967 6-day war. the west bank was taken from jordan, and the gaza strip was taken from egypt. had egypt not declared war on israel by expelling UN forces, stepping up its military activity and blockading the Tiran strait, and had jordan not consequently attacked israel directly after israeli retaliation against said hostile egyptian manoevers, then neither of those 2 countries would have lost the gaza strip and the west bank, respectively.
their punishment, if you will, for attacking israel, was an annexation of some of their territory. were the israelis expected to turn to their vanquished enemies after the 6-day war and say something like "hey nice try, it didnt work out for you, better luck next time." and send them on their way home?

to put things into perspective, an interesting question is: what would the collective spoils of war have been for egypt, syria, jordan and iraq had THEY won the 6-day war?

Iran Focus

London, Aug. 16 – Iran masterminded the July 12 attack on an Israeli military squad by the Lebanese militia Hezbollah which ignited a major military offensive against the group by the Jewish state, Iran Focus has learnt.

A well-placed source inside the clerical establishment told Iran Focus that prior to the start of hostilities Tehran dispatched several top officials including the chief of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) to attend a summit in Syria which took place on July 4 and focused on ways to upset the regional balance in the Middle East.

Hassan Khomeini, the grandson of the founder of the Islamic Republic, travelled to the Syrian capital last month, staying in Damascus between July 1 and 6 under the cover of pilgrimage to a revered Shiite Muslim shrine.

Simultaneously, several top Hezbollah officials arrived in Damascus for what they claimed was to meet Hassan Khomeini.

On July 4, the secretary general of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Larijani made an unannounced trip to the Syrian capital.

The Supreme Commander of the IRGC Major General Yahya Rahim Safavi and the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of the Staff of the Islamic Republic’s armed forces Major General Hassan Firouzabadi also secretly travelled to Damascus to attend the summit.

The summit, which was held at the Iranian embassy in Damascus, was also attended by top Syrian security officials and Iran’s ambassador to Syria Hassan Akhtari. The radical Shiite cleric was formerly the chief of staff of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

During the summit a politico-military strategy was drawn up for a possible attack by Hezbollah fighters against Israel to trigger a regional war, and the militia was called on to prepare for an offensive.

Days later, on July 11, following a round of talks in Brussels with European Union foreign policy chief Javier Solana on Iran’s nuclear standoff with the West, Larijani made a second unannounced to trip to Damascus. There he met and held talks with Syrian Vice-President Farouk al-Shara, making the final arrangements for the actions that were to follow.

Finally, while meeting a top Hezbollah official in the Iranian embassy, Larijani gave the order for the Lebanese militia to mount the cross-border attack on the Jewish state, triggering the 34-day war which has left 157 Israelis and 1,110 Lebanese dead.

U.N. Chief Accuses Hezbollah of 'Cowardly Blending' Among Refugees
Monday, July 24, 2006
Associated Press

LARNACA, Cyprus — The U.N. humanitarian chief accused Hezbollah on Monday of "cowardly blending" among Lebanese civilians and causing the deaths of hundreds during two weeks of cross-border violence with Israel.

The militant group has built bunkers and tunnels near the Israeli border to shelter weapons and fighters, and its members easily blend in among civilians.

Jan Egeland spoke with reporters at the Larnaca airport in Cyprus late Monday after a visit to Lebanon on his mission to coordinate an international aid effort. On Sunday he had toured the rubble of Beirut's southern suburbs, a once-teeming Shiite district where Hezbollah had its headquarters.

During that visit he condemned the killing and wounding of civilians by both sides, and called Israel's offensive "disproportionate" and "a violation of international humanitarian law."

On Monday he had strong words for Hezbollah, which crossed into Israel and captured two Israeli soldiers on July 12, triggering fierce fighting from both sides.

"Consistently, from the Hezbollah heartland, my message was that Hezbollah must stop this cowardly blending ... among women and children," he said. "I heard they were proud because they lost very few fighters and that it was the civilians bearing the brunt of this. I don't think anyone should be proud of having many more children and women dead than armed men."

"We need a cessation of hostilities because this is a war where civilians are paying the price," said Egeland, who was heading to Israel.

Hezbollah guerrillas crossed into Israel and captured two Israeli soldiers on July 12, triggering fierce fighting from both sides.

At least 384 people have been killed in Lebanon, including 20 soldiers and 11 Hezbollah fighters, according to security officials. At least 600,000 Lebanese have fled their homes, according to the World Health Organization. One estimate by Lebanon's finance minister putting the number at 750,000, nearly 20 percent of the population.

Israel's death toll stands at 36, with 17 people killed by Hezbollah rockets and 19 soldiers killed in the fighting.

During his visit to Lebanon, Egeland issued an urgent call for US$150 million (euro118.74 million) to help Lebanon through the next three months.

He said the first large U.N. convoy of humanitarian aid is expected to depart Beirut on Wednesday for the southern city of Tyre. Similar convoys will be scheduled every second day after that.

one time i was going to work early in the morning, and i was taking the train at lucien l'allier, and i entered the station from the side entrance on crescent below dorchester, and right in the entrance was this guy, and he had a big pile of used syringes beside him and he was busy , with another syringe, sucking the remaining junk residue out of the used ones. it was pretty shocking to see. the next day he was gone but there was a white rag with some bloodspots on it so i guess he got his fix...

oh yeah mine wasnt a poem either, it was from stephen king's the gunslinger/
now i have a question for y'all: if poems are all chi-chi poo, then how does the following poem get classified , seeing as it deals with blasting high speed lead projectiles at jerrys:

Ode to a Sten Gun
By Gunner. S.N. Teed

You wicked piece of vicious tin!
Call you a gun? Don't make me grin.
You're just a bloated piece of pipe.
You couldn't hit a hunk of tripe.
But when you're with me in the night,
I'll tell you pal, you're just alright!

Each day I wipe you free of dirt.
Your dratted corners tear my shirt.
I cuss at you and call you names,
You're much more trouble than my dames.
But boy, do I love to hear you yammer
When you 're spitting lead in a business manner.

You conceited pile of salvage junk.
I think this prowess talk is bunk.
Yet if I want a wall of lead
Thrown at some Jerry's head
It is to you I raise my hat;
You're a damn good pal...
You silly gat!

--

is it still gay even though its about a submachine gun and the guy who loves it?

its like that age-old question: if you raped jesus in the ass , would that be brutal, or just gay?

haha .....fuck......thanks for the compliment man (sort of), but i really cant accept it. i feel like i dont know jack shit most of the time and i'm not afraid to admit it. there are so many comflicting viewpoints and arguments nowadays, i find it incredibly hard to take a concrete position on anything for more than a short period of time. as soon as you think you know something or have got a handle on it, something else comes along and blows it out of the water. like you said , i just try and do my homework, and assess as best i can ...
i dont even LIKE politics. never did. and probably never will. but at a certain point you either realize that you MUST pay attention, or get steamrolled by your own voluntary ignorance.
i think it was ralph nader who said "turn on to politics, or politics will turn on you".

The Man in Black: Three. This is the number of your fate.

The Gunslinger: Three?

The Man in Black: Yes, three is mystic. Three stands at the heart of the mantra.

The Gunslinger: Which three?

The Man in Black: The first is dark-haired. He stands on the brink of robbery and murder. A demon has infested him. The name of the demon is HEROIN.

The Gunslinger: Which demon is that? I know it not, even from nursery stories.

He tried to speak but his voice was gone, the voice of the oracle, Star-Slut, Whore of the Winds, both were gone; he saw a card fluttering down from nowhere to nowhere, turning and turning in the lazy dark. On it a baboon grinned from over the shoulder of a young man with dark hair; its disturbingly human fingers were buried so deeply in the young man's neck that their tips had disappeared in flesh. Looking more closely, the gunslinger saw the baboon held a whip in one of those clutching, strangling hands. The face of the ridden man seemed to writhe in wordless terror.

The Prisoner, the man in black (who had once been a man the gunslinger trusted, a man named Walter) whispered chummily. A trifle upsetting, isn't he? A trifle upsetting ... a trifle upsetting ...

anything you put in almost always has a nasty acrid taste that ruins the good taste of the buds. just go pure. you get used to it. alternatively you could use washed tobacco. just get some rolling tabac, put a wad in the end of a leg of pantyhose and wash it under warm water until the water runs clear. do it a little longer for good measure, then lay it all out on some paper towel or something to dry it. afterwards it should look whitish and , well, washed-out looking. it smokes super smooth and theres almost no taste...
