Dj depuis 16 ans, Bliss vogue dans le nightlife Montrealais a toutes les semaines depuis les dix dernieres annees. Il explore regulierement de nombreux styles musicaux allant du breakbeat a l’electro. Il est entre autre co-fondateur de la plus longue soiree break a Montreal, THE GRILL (maintenant FUNK SHUI) et est un resident de VOYEUR, une soiree electro tres populaire de longue date. Reconnu comme LE Dj le plus musicalement diversifie en ville, Bliss est en quelque sorte un cauchemar pour les puristes.

Au cours des dernieres annees il a joue des centaines de shows a travers Montreal, a cote de figures legendaires tels que Dj Krush, Afrika Bambaataa, MSTRKRFT, Freddy Fresh, Kool Herc, Atomic Hooligan, Aquasky, Thievery Corporation, Kid Koala, Krafty Kuts, Bebel Gilberto, Bonobo, Tommie Sunshine and The Streets pour en nommer quelques unes. Bliss a aussi voyage et spinne a travers le monde, notamment aux Etats Unis, en Afrique, Isreal, France et l’Angleterre

Sa premiere residence de club a Montreal etait au Bar Passeport (1997) ou il etait le resident principal pour plus de trois ans jouant un mélange d’Electro, Breaks, Industrial et Alternative pour une sale bonde tous les Vendredis et Samedis. En 1999, Bliss co-fonde The GRILL (avec Dj T’cha) tous les Jeudis au Blizzarts, la premiere soiree a Montreal dedie a la musique break sous toutes ses formes. La soiree est eventuellement devenue la plus reputable et la plus longue de son genre (4 ans) avec une reputation allant bien au dela du 514. The GRILL fut vote 2ieme meilleur soiree par le Montreal Mirror en 2001, et en 2002 Bliss fut vote parmis les 3 djs les plus funky a Montreal.

En 2003, Bliss devient aussi resident a la soiree Electro, Chemistry avec les dj Mini et Jordan Dare. Plein a craquer a toutes les semaines, la soiree est vite devenue le “point de reference” pour toutes choses electro. En 2004, la soiree est rebaptise VOYEUR avec Bliss et Jordan Dare comme residents et devient rapidement une des soirees les plus reputes a Montreal. En 2005, le tres populaire Voyeur est deplace a la Societe Des Arts Technologiques avec le premier Voyeur attirant plus de 700 personnes.

Bliss produit sous le nom Answer avec son ami de longue date Freqboy. Le duo viennent de finir leur premier e.p.

Autres faits interessants: il a aussi etait le hote d’un emission de radio “Beats N Breaks” sur [ Sweet-ting.com ] en 2000, et est fondateur de Mind The Gap, (la seul soiree Brit Pop a Montreal) en plus d’etre resident au Plateau Flexout (la seul soiree IDM a Montreal). Il a aussi travaille pendant plusieurs annees comme gerant et acheteur de musique break et electronique du magasin de disques NOIZE sur St. Laurent.

I'm returning to play a set at Blizzarts this coming Saturday where my Plateau buddies do a dope weekly...

As you all may be aware Blissarts was like a second home to me for close to 7 years...it was where I started Montreal's first and longest running breaks weekly The Grill (Thursdays), was resident for several years at Chemistry which later became the legendary Voyeur clubnight (Saturdays)...As well as starting Montreals only Brit Pop weekly (Mind The Gap) and being resident at the excellent Plateau Flexout idm weekly... At one point I was resident at three weeklies there simultaneously...

So its with great pleasure that I'll be returning to a club that opened so many doors for me...

Funk Shui is the latest installement of my breaks weekly I've been doing for the past 7 years. Its been running for nearly a year now and is the only breaks night in Montreal that covers the full breaks spectrum.

We drop everything from downtempo breaks (Mo wax, Ninja Tune) to original funk breaks (James Brown, Curtis mayfield, etc...), to ol skool hip hop (De la Soul, UMCS) to big beat (Fatboy Slim, Freestylers) to nu skool (Plump Djs, Breakfastaz) and booty breaks (Deekline, Stanton Warriors) and pretty much every other subgenre of breaks there is (there are so many lol!)

As long as its non 4 X 4 we'll drop it!

Ok kids here's the deal:

Before you commit and play a party enquire about how much you will get and reach a verbal or written agreement.

If the promoter tells you you won't be getting paid, then you won't be getting paid

If the promoter tells you will get paid "x" amount of dollars, then thats what you get paid
It dosen't matter if the party's empty, the promoter pays, even if it comes out of his/her pocket the next week.

And none of this "oh do it for the love and shut up shit".

I can garantee you that line won't fly with me. I'll come knocking on your door until you pay up and believe me no promoter has ever stiffed the Bliss

Now in this situation, since the promoters and the djs seem to have agreed that the deal was no one was getting paid...then no one gets paid and everyone shuts up.

Bind was wrong to make that request and especially ask for $500.00 (dude we booked Krafty Kuts for $400.00 a few years ago, lets be reasonable now). I've been playing breaks in the 514 for much longer than any of you cats and I still wouldn't dream of asking for that much.

I honestly usually play the breaks nights in Montreal for my cab fare cause I want to support the music and encourage new nights and I know that most of these nights don't make a lot of money.

However on the flipside the promoters were wrong to bring it up publicly, especially if the djs DID END UP playing for free, its kind of ungrateful to diss them after.

And the Jewish commment was just plain wrong (I personally wouldn't want to play any of your events after reading that, especially for free, and I've not even Jewish lol!)

Lastly, its not the job of the dj to bring the people, but the promoter...

The dj's job is too reasearch and present the music, the promoters job to bring the people.

No people = Bad promoter

James Brown is the ORIGINAL funk breaks aka "real" breaks...any self respecting breaks dj should pay tribute to this man...

I'll being doing an all funk breaks tribute set to the master on Friday at BOA...

But more to do with the birth of the UK rave scene, and electro rock bands like New Order, Primal Scream Blur and The Happy Mondays which was called "Dance rock" or "indie dance" in the early 90s...a revival reflected in the very popular current bands like Bloc Party, Franz Ferdinand, Kaiser Cheifs, & Gorillaz (created by the guy from Blur) who fuse electro with indie rock and that kindof stuff...

Research the Hacienda or come to one of my Brit Pop or Voyeur nights...

I've been playing a mix of rock and electronic music for years...

I don't know if I'd call in dance rock though cause I hate the "dance" word...I'd call it indie electro or brit electro something to that effect...we play a lot of that stuff at Voyeur...

It is interesting they call it "nu rave" in the UK considering that the early UK rave scene had a slew of indie electronic bands that were very popular...
