I understand...DJs just aren't important anymore. No groupies, no limos, no VIP, no special treatment, no pay, no bottles of water, no cab fare, no respect. Everyone wants to be associated with you, but no one wants to know you. DJs went from being the superstars to being the help...In ghetto-wannabe MTL, anyway. Personally, i don't want any special treatment, but some cash and a show of appreciation would be nice. Don't wanna sound like a whiny bitch either.

Of course, if you really are sick of all this, just go play some HOUSE... .. .

Seriously though, this is an empty discussion,

You book someone you pay them, you can't pay them don't book them,

If the promoter dosen't pay you, he's basically stealing from you and breaking every business law in the book. You can either sue him or like Craig pointed out, keep some of the equipment as collateral.
Another method is to harrass them like you're a collection agency. I'm also not one to advocate violence but if you feel the need to shake the guy up, by all means do it.

I CAN'T STRESS THIS ENOUGH, ANYTHING GOES IF THE PROMOTER DOSEN'T PAY YOU.

DO NOT LET THEM STEAL FROM YOU

bahhh happy to see the ideal mtl.d.j attitude !_! without attitude montreal d.j.s will remain underated.
seriously some montreal promoters are WAY behind.. i have done many gigs.. and i have never had a quality installation...
never mind being payed what i should have been paid.. ex/question: how much does the d.j mixing after/before headliner recieve????? a better pay than the last or first dj????
personally i will refuse gigs unless i am sure the set up is worth my time.
syndicat nTK represent...
I'm feeling revenge of da nerdz- right now..

Valid reasons to play for free:
- You're booked in another country with hotel and food
- Its a free party and you're part of the organisation by pitching in your own money for the PA anyways
- Open bar and a blowjob during your set
- It's the end of the world and tomorrow there ain't gonna be any stores left to spend the money at
