Altough I usually tend to agree with Kishmay, on this one, I have to say that MY opinion is that these thigns never really die, it just changes. I mean, I have changed a whole lot in the last 10 years, hell some people may not even recognize me after all them years, yet, I did not die, I just changed. Survival is al about adaptation, and as far as the scene's ability to adapt is concerned, I am *NOT WORRIED AT ALL*. Eventually, all the glamor and hype will ebb away, like high tide, then the cycle can start again... Kinda like burning down a field in order to make it fertile again. |

but my question for him is when you refer to "the scene" are you refering to the rave scene or the modern dance party scene? i personaly associate the term rave with a movement that historicly took place in the 90's. kinda like how historicly speaking disco took place in the 70's.... even though ppl were still making it and listening in the 80's the 80's is rarely refered to as part of the disco era. like you said "survival is about adaptation" or evolution... but is a snake that adapted from the water to the land due to its evolution still a fish? or is it a new species? Well I refer to the "undergroundish techno dance scene" if there's such a thing. I pride myself with not labeling anything or anyone, so in this particualr case, I mean the crowd, the music and people I enjoy beeing with. I've lived thru a few "scenes" before, and well it's all the same, every subculture is bound to go commercial at one point. Blame the medias, the cops, whatever you please, it'll still happen. In the meantime, take what youcan, enjoy it while it lasts. The way i see it is that knowing it'll eventually be watered down, enjoy it to the full extent while you can, then rest for a few months. :) It'll be back, I mean the techno/dance/insanity will come back in full, you can count on it. |

i think people believe the whole rave scene is dying because what they knew or thought of the scene/event is changing and evolving into something alot different and in my opinion better. I think its becoming a more healthy, fun and more of a diverse thing for all. The day is nearly past and the time is coming fast when we wont see anymore candy kids...... YEAH! lol jks ..not really. |

I ROFLMGDMFAO'ed myself a few times reading this thread, uber-great posts you guys, you had me dieing with laughter!!! :) Just my quick comment... I loved my raves in the '90s... And then once I went to Aria and the vibe there was awful, like a crime scene... And then went to a party where there were some people who actually screamed at each other, aggressiveness... I knew I had to be outta there. That was what, 1999 or 2000, not sure... To me the rave scene was dead. And then of course, there was the no-funeral death of the Sona... Which had become only semi-fun anyway, people less friendly... Zoom to 2007 I tried the MP3 and guess what, people are friendly and the vibe was OK. Had a good time. It's not dead. It's not what it use to be: people doing the airplane to each other, and all the craziness of uninhibited tripping. But overall there isn't that much "I am cooler than you" attitude and quite a bit of friendliness still going around. Resuscitated? Something like that. At least now I can do something else than REMEMBER how much fun I had... :o Thank you for being there, you all... |
