I hate to say it but Tiesto looks likes he's faking the whole thing

You got track one playing and he's twiddling noobs and bringing another fader up at the beginning except guess what, no other song is coming in and the song playing does not sound manipulated

Then the second song comes in without him mixing wtf? the lights are also orchestrated to come on at the right time, except how the hell the light guy gonna know when the breakdowns are unless its already been rehearsed

Smells fishy

Notice how he never changes a record either (two white labels on platters, and he isn't using serato)

Fake, pre-recorded

You think they're gonna take chances with Tiesto messing up live, after marketing him as the worlds BEST DJ?

No way, much easier to play a prerecorded cd (anyone notcie there's ONE cd player on the side?) so there's no chance of fuckups, all he's gotta do is pretend to tweek some noobs and touch the record a little

& A whooping 3 songs (8 min) later, done, here's your $30,000 dollars, Wham bam thank you mam

Here's what I think about all this Tiesto thing.

1. Tiesto does great music whatever he may do, spinning or not we don't care his music is great
2. When your at his show you don't care about if he's spinning or not or wtv bullshit you say Bliss, the ambiance and just what he does puts a awesome ambiance
3. He probably does 50 x of what you do in money in a year
4. He probably gets whatever girl/guy he wants
5. His shows are always full of people that are there just for him, that know the lyrics ( when the case) and that know his songs.
6. I think you guys should get over it, he's famous, makes money, makes good music and people love him ....a lot of things dj's in montreal do not have.
I'm feeling wanna hug yo face! right now..

So by all those points, the, people who are into that autotune cRAP, or people who listen to Britney or any other mainstream pop-band are all also musical geniuses that we should all be sooooo jealous of..

Tiesto doesn't even actually MIX anymore, he's not a DJ! He pre-mixes his set, probably in Ableton, and then stands there pretending to do something. It's Milli Vanilli with turntables, only gayer.

Seriously, mixing is not that hard. If you can keep a beat and can count to 4, you can be a DJ. He's not even doing THAT anymore.
I'm feeling like a drama magnet right now..

Not really, you can lay two beats one over another thats about it

If you think mixing 2 records together is what makes you a dj, you better go back to school bro

I could point you to a couple of rock nights that are regularily packed with people dancing where the dj dosen't mix once...I could also point you to a couple of nights with djs who mix perfectly that are always half empty with no one dancing

Figure out what makes the difference

Well I was talking from a purely technical point.. Track selection is what will really make or break a DJ.. But there's people that love every kind of music out there.

When it comes to mixing/beatmatching, it's really dead simple as long as you can count and keep a beat, though like anything practice makes perfect.. Sure someone can learn to beatmatch in a week, but they aren't going to be anywhere near the best..

But would you expect beatmatching at a rock night? That's just stupid and obviously it doesn't apply to that genre.
I'm feeling like a drama magnet right now..

theres 2 kind dj. there the dj that plays track one at the time and don't beatmach and the dj that create something new with 2 or 3 track playing at the same time.

so...

when i go out to see a dj.
im not looking for the top 10 dj.
im looking for the dj that express lot of love for is craft by pushing himself to his limits and even further.

oh and there the dj that pretend to mix and to me its just a rip off.

ps. im not talking about mainstream vs underground, its more about being real or not!

Karma.Millie, you're an awesome girl but your comments sound a bit like an accurate representation of how the masses choose their DJs...so as much as you're probably going to hate me for this (and I give you every right to), here's what I think about all this Tiesto thing.

1. Tiesto does great music whatever he may do, spinning or not we don't care his music is great

Ok, valid point but... that's your opinion and, as much as we respect that, we have ours. Most of us are DJs here so, as you may have noticed, we are bashing his DJing skills, not the entirety of what and who he is.

2. When your at his show you don't care about if he's spinning or not or wtv bullshit you say Bliss, the ambiance and just what he does puts a awesome ambiance

Why do you not care when you're at his show ? Is it because you're too high to care ? At 150$ a pop to go see one of his "lives", the guy better do something else than pretend to do what he's supposed to be doing or else a whole bunch of people are gonna feel ripped off. Maybe you won't but others are bound to. Now, as much as Bliss doesn't win any popularity contests on here, he does have a point. As for your last point, well, inviting a shitload of friends over, popping a Tiesto CD on my sound system and everyone dancing to it also makes for excellent ambiance (minus Tiesto being there, the 45 minutes lineup to the bathroom, the exorbitant Centre Bell parking fee and everyone a little less broke from the overpriced tickets).

3. He probably does 50 x of what you do in money in a year

Again, Bliss does still spin records live without resorting to pre-recorded stuff.

4. He probably gets whatever girl/guy he wants

LOL ! Well, I'll give you that but... does that make him a better DJ ? It just makes him a better star but, like Britney, the amount of people you sleep with is not directly proportional to your talent. It just makes him a bigger whore.

5. His shows are always full of people that are there just for him, that know the lyrics ( when the case) and that know his songs.

Again, that doesn't make Tiesto better. At least Green Day and other bands don't pretend to play instruments. It's one thing to lipsynch, it's another to pretend you're spinning records which, for crying out loud, should be SECOND NATURE for Tiesto. You'd expect him to spin records in a fucking coma, yet, he cheats on even that. I'm sorry but that's disappointing.

6. I think you guys should get over it, he's famous, makes money, makes good music and people love him ....a lot of things dj's in montreal do not have.

Sorry but most of us here do not choose our DJs based on FAME, WEALTH and POPULARITY because, well, that doesn't say ANYTHING about said DJ's talent and integrity.
I'm feeling "flynn lives" right now..
