Tabarnak Lonestar Srewhead pi DeadFunk !

I think that everything she is saying is denoucing the entire cause. Police brutality and accountability is a serious issue but these people make it look like a total joke, even a lie. Why don't they talk about real situation that happen where kids get the shit beaten out of them for nothing because they are young and no one will ever believe what they say? Why don't they talk about the police raping detainees and using disproportionate force that results in death? All these things have happened enough times with no punishment for the cops involved but all these ppl seem to wanna talk about are tickets to poor people and getting non-violently arrested for nothing. There are plenty of serious stories that they can dig up and explain but instead they've made this about stupid shit everyone can see right through. I think people were expecting police brutality to be a real issue rather than a joke from immature teens but after watching this they'll probably think that police brutaility basically doesn't exist and now I know why some kids get beat till their noses breaks and no one will believe them.

In short I think this protest has done more harm than good. It's not simply because a protest happened, its cause it's poorly represented and a lot of the people involved may not know what they're protesting for in the first place. On top of it, it's random, not connected to any specific event. There is no shock factor, nothing to open any eyes, nothing to convince people that there's a real problem.
I'm feeling bored right now..

Don't forget the people who organized this protest do alot of other things too, they work day to day with cases of police abuse and help people with their complaints in deontology, also providing pamphlets about people's rights when facing police officers.

Talking and politics is going to do absolutely fuck-all. As much as it's not something to be proud of, you have to take a look at history to see how naive you're being.

Talk accomplishes nothing. The saying is "ACTIONS speak louder than words". Is there a single world power, government, or nation, that WOULDN'T do absolutely anything, including killing, to keep their "power"? The police is an extention of the government, and the only way you're going to get them to change, to do things diffrently, is with a show of POWER, because that is what they do and the ONLY thing they understand.

You want cops to stop using excesive force on people? Put a few hundred in the hospital. Give them the FEAR that they give everyone else. Take away the POWER they have over your minds and make sure they KNOW they've got no power over you, and they will realise that they're just humans. But untill they realise that they aren't above "normal" people, they will keep using their power to beat you and get away with it, because you're too weak to do anything about it.

I really dont get the problem with the police/society arguement.

If you dont like this soceity, go to bum-fuck no where in saskatchewan and make ur own. See the ommish, mennonites, etc.

Police too; ive never had a police to dick all to me, or anyone i know. YOu can always joke with them on the street, they dont do dick all if ur caught for posession or using (unless your being a dick to others)...I really fail to see wut the probelm is.

It just sounds like a lot of bitching, and shifting blame to shadowy institution like the "government" or the "police" or the "military establishment."

The protest certainly has not changed things overnight. There will still be kids who are harassed on a daily basis my cops because of the way they dress or the color of their skin, and no protest will put an instant end to this.

However, the protest HAS accomplished several positive ends. First of all, it has generated alot of awareness and discussion about police brutality among people who might not have otherwise paid any attention to it. The fact that we're discussing the issue of police brutality on ravewave RIGHT NOW is a positive outcome of the protest. Second, its a message to cops that WE ARE WATCHING YOU and if you behave irresponsibly there is a price to pay. Finally, it was a great oppurunity for kids to release anger and frustration against the cops, and theres nothing wrong with a little catharsis now and then.

I aint contradicting myself at all when i say that, by and large, we have a pretty decent police system in Canada compared to the rest of the world. When kids were smashing the windows of a cop van last saturday, the cops responded by backing off and NOT with bullets or tear gas which they could have easily done, and which is what would happen in most places in the world. The reason why our police system is relatively begign is PRECISELY because we live in a relatively open and democratic society where we're allowed to criticise the police on message boards like this without being shut down, and where we have the RIGHT to protest without being shot at.

On Saturday, I excersized my right to protest, and i stand by the usefullness of that approach.

Speaking of hippie protests, there was one on my way to school today. This had the whole deal: the native canadians who were decked out in their feathers, the old burned out hippies with the really frail hair and their hippie wear, the huge neon peace signs, drums, dancing, and all their other hippieness. I think they were protesting nuclear energy or something.

Its so fucking retarded...you can have climate change or you can have no nuclear energy. You cant have it both ways.

It made me late for class, cuz hippies are so fucking self-centered, and dont leave a path. And dont these people have jobs at 1pm? rediculous.

What pisses me off most tho is that they could help be part of the real solution if they went to school, studied something like engineering, and then tried to figure out how to make electricity with less polution and no uranium.

Instead, when people that actually made the difference by inventing better windmills, and solar plants and more efficient coal plants etc...the hippies are going to be like "yeah, we made it happen." No you didnt...the fucking engineers did.
