NOAH!! Shame on you for getting caught with your hand in the cookie jar like that.

You need to branch out, buckle down, and start writing more stories that are thoroughly rooted in the Montreal rave scene. Start an email account, say something like gossip@ravenews.ca, so people can send in tips and stories. No names, no locations. Get enough people contributing crazy shit they witnessed (Think [ Gawker.com ] blind items section), and you'll no longer have to creatively re-invent the stories you find on [ Yahoo.com ] to fit the Montreal rave community.

Anyhow, love the articles. Keep them coming! You're an awesome writer :D

English-Canadian is the proper nomenclature, and we use English as shorthand for it, especially in Quebec. It's a regional thing, it's common usage here.

Also, 6,500,000 Canadians are ethnically English..

Hahahaha, reading comprehension obviously isn't one of your strong points.

Suit yourself. The guy was obviously throwing stereotypes around, his first paragraph didn't serve any kind of narrative purpose at all, and he definitely said that all anglos of both gender are always annoyingly loud when they have fun.

I mean, you believe it so it must be true.

Dude, chill.

The guy was joking. JOKING. He wasn't being critical of ALL English people, under ALL circumstances, at ALL times, forever and ever. He was making a few lighthearted comments about his neighbors. Then, in obvious jest, he said that English women are louder than French women.

CALL THE HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION! Obviously, the guy is a racist devil douchebag from hell because he joked about English women being louder than French women.

Let's tie him to a cross and burn him!

I don't get that vibe from his piece at all. He's describing an afternoon on the Mountain being enjoyed by a melting pot of smiling happy people. He's not insulting any of them, and even his comment about his loud neighbours is lighthearted.

He hightlights how people from different walks of life all enjoy the mountain -- latinos, asians, young people, old people, Francophones and Anglophones. His point is that the Mountain is a jewel that's enjoyed by all Montrealers, and that we all have an interest in keeping it beautiful.

The guy definitely has a narrative reason for mentioning race, gender, and age: he's being inclusive, and is implying that we all have a stake in the Mountain's future, regardless of our own personal backgrounds.

Noah, there's a full English translation of the article available on this website.

It's not nearly as bad as you think. It's not a serious piece, he was being snide/funny, and he wasn't complaining about all English people. Notice how he mentions "Les Anglaises"? He's specifically referring to a group of English women who live next door to his place. If he wanted to insult all English people, he'd have written "Les Anglais".

Haha, that's a nice essay. Unfortunately, logic doesn't work on (most) of the teabag crowd. For these folks, socialism and communism are simply placeholders for their own personal fears. The conservative conception of socialism and communism often has nothing to do with their actual definitions. Fifty years ago, whites dating blacks was "communism".

I never did get around to reading that Marxist classic "Black Cocks and Nubian Titties: Instruments of The Proletarian Revolution" . . .

Nick Clegg, leader of the Liberal Democrats, is turning heads in the UK and throwing a spanner in the upcoming May elections. The Lib-Dems are the only party that have their head on straight when it comes to the internet -- both Labour and the Conservatives are in David Geffen's pocket.

A quote from the above article...

The playing field is so tilted in Labour's favor, in fact, that if all three parties won 30 percent of the vote, Labour would win approximately 300 seats, the Conservatives roughly 200, and the Liberal Democrats around 100. This, you may agree, is a pretty quaint way to organize a twenty-first century democracy.

Teabaggers like to pretend that it's 1773 with a little 1861 thrown in. Most right-wing extremists fancy themselves revolutionaries, which is why they steal names from successful movements past. Now we've got a bunch of fat upper middle class conservative Americans naming their latest hissy fit after the Boston Tea Party. It's the whole "if you rename shit to something beautiful, it won't smell" principle. Years ago a friend of mine was the manager of a McDonalds restaurant. One day, he caught one of his employees fucking a bucket of lard in the freezer. The guy was just standing there, his dick in a giant pile of McFat.

Experiencing PLUR is a lot like eating at that McDonalds -- you'll enjoy the food more if you don't know how it's made, just like parties are more PLURtastic the less you know about how they come together. The less promoters you know, the less egos you witness, the less scene politics you deal with, the more peaceful, loving, unifying, and respectful the parties will seem. Sooner or later, though, you'll meet enough disgusting fuckers to sour even the sweetest of candy kids.

Instead of PLUR, you'd be better off just sticking with respect. Demand it from the people you deal with, expect it from the people you party with, give it to the people who deserve it, and never tolerate its absence.

/Psychotrop parties were nice.

That was an excellent post, thanks for sharing. This thread has an open ended
title on purpose, it's a place for people to find out about artists they're not
familiar with. Genre doesn't matter. One of the reasons I chose Japan was because
it has the second largest music industry in the world yet, aside for a few J-Pop bands
that are popular with weeaboos, their artists have next to no recognition over here.
There's plenty of opportunities for great musical discoveries.

Mutante, thanks for the Pizzicato Five video -- I hadn't seen that one. P5 is one
of my favorites, they've got this silly, kitschy sensibility that I like.

Meh.

Now that I've got that out of the way, welcome to the Japanese music thread.
I've arranged a sampling of Japanese artists for yah, many of which you most
likely aren't familiar with.

Each post of mine will cover a different genre and will include video clips,
music tracks, and live sets when possible. I'll also be including links to
stores, venues, and promoters so that if ever you're in Japan, you'll have a
few places to go to if you're looking for a party. I'll mostly be focusing
on Tokyo and the Kansai region. Even if you never end up going to Japan, you
might find a new artist that you really like.

You're getting a smattering of information, not a feast. For more accurate/thorough
information, you'll have to go elsewhere. I just thought I'd share a few things
with the [ rave.ca ] community while I plan out my next trip to Japan.

...

I'll start with Psytrance. When I get around to it, my next post will
probably be on dubstep.

PSYTRANCE (and its various cousins)

Japan's psy/trance scene has experienced some decline over the last few
years, though it's still home to a vibrant community of promoters & artists.
Large outdoor psytrance parties have started drying up after the disappointing
turn-out to 2008's The Gathering, which used to be the largest psytrance festival
in Japan. That was around the time that Japanese police had a hard-on for
busting raves. The promoters were facing heat from all angles, the bad press wasn't
doing much to bring in new people, and new laws were starting to choke the
outdoor party culture. Things got quiet.

Despite that, many stores and venues are still around. You can still buy tickets to psytrance events at places like www.fineplay.jp ] and [ www.881-rec.com ] Records are out there throwing parties, clubs like [url=differ.co.jp]Differ Ariake and [ www.ageha.com ] have the occasional psytrance night, and [ ] has a psytrance event nearly every day. If you're near a big city, you shouldn't have trouble finding somewhere to go.

VIDEOS:

DJ IRY:

This Nagoya based DJ started spinning psytrance when he was 9 years old
(and he's about that age in some of the clips below). He learnt how to spin by
watching DJs play at Namaste Cafe, a popular psytrance hangout owned by his parents.
