If you're using Windows to edit your movies, check out Sony Vegas. It's cheaper than Premiere, and better than Elements. For the stuff you're doing, it'll do just fine. It's popular with documentary film-makers and news shows -- it's used to make Nightline, for example.

Both editors blend audio, though Vegas is far more nimble at it. Premiere is a heavy duty application that's more useful if you plan on doing post-production work with the rest of the Adobe Suite. Also, if you do eventually plan on buying the software, it'll cost you $75 as opposed to $750 for Premiere.
