polyamory usually means having relationships with more than one person, not just sex, and for both people, unlike polygamy. lots of people have sex with multiple partners. i think the point of polyamory is that you do tell eachother about it instead of cheating on eachother and hiding it.

I am sure it works for some and not others, just like monogamy. I mean, if a monogamous couple breaks up, nobody blames it on that.

Oka was really awsome. they had a dj with live drums, sax, and dijereedoo. got the crowd shakin!
And RuPaul was really... well... gay, but I had to see her/him. I mean, I remember that video from like a decade ago and i knew so many people who didn't believe it was a guy. hahaha. I wonder how many straight guys thought she was hot?
the Sex Garage stage had some great stuff, lots of sexy people there.

Are you only interested in visiting Vancouver, or different places?

If you are interested in nature, skiing/snowboarding, etc. then it's amazing for that, in many places around BC.

If u want big city, Vancouver is great but it depends what you're looking for. It does rain alot in winter. There is a HUGE Asian culture there. The nightlife, in comparison to here, sucks. They have raves and stuff but its nothing like here. but then if u r trying to avoid drugs maybe you should stay away from that cuz there's a lot of crystal in Van (oh, and of course, smack).
I have found the weed in BC way better and stronger and cheaper than any i found here but i lived in the rockies, not in Van, so i dunno.
The culture of BC is similar to Quebec in that its pretty liberal compared to other provinces. Vancouver shares a lot of west coast culture like california... lots of yuppies there into yoga and stuff like that. lots of people live there who are into outdoor sports. and yes, its more expensive to live there but if u look around and share apartments u can do ok. in smaller cities in BC its cheaper to live.
Every block in Van has 2 Starbucks and a sushi joint on it. THere are also some pot cafes where people openly smoke up over coffee and snacks that aren't harassed by cops cuz the cops are busy taking care of the east side which is full of heroin addicts (stay away from the east side!)

plan to visit, and if u meet the right people a good oppurtunity could arise and u might wanna stick around.

hope that helps.

well I went and I had a blast there. Yes, it is expensive, although the tix started at 60 bucks, if u ever go to Aria to see djs that's a deal considering how many were there.
I agree that u can't judge people's reasons for being there, and u can't say what the vibe is like if you've never been (if you've gone and hated the vibe, feel free to diss it).
I thought the "vibe" was great, people were really happy and friendly, and I found some people who were being fun and playful. I presonally like parties with a theme because it makes it more playful, there were many people dressed up in crazy outfits like ballerina skirts and stuff. Yes, there were a lot of people wearing cheesy sexy outfits too, but I don't let them bother me. I met some cool people, and I went with a bunch of friends who were there to have a good time and enjoy a slightly different scene. Being surrounded by over 10,000 partiers is a chaotic, frenzied atmosphere, but its fun to try at least once. being on the speakers looking over that crowd was a real trip.
Saying people go to the white ball just to get fucked up on drugs... people do that at every party (and the tam tams, at concerts, in bars, in parks.....) just as there are people there for the music, the people, etc. at any party. With that many well-known djs, I'm sure many people came for them, I know some who decided to go because they wanted to see a particular dj and figured, hey, why not see them and a bunch more too while I'm at it?
the lineups are annoying but it really didn't take that long to get to the bathroom, I've had worse experiences at small parties where they just had 3 toilets that all got blocked half way thru the night, and no t.p. all night.
It's true they could definitely improve a few things that would make it much better, and it is a big money maker, but i don't regret going. I've been to small, med and large parties, some that made lots of money and some that lost money, and I've encountered both good and bad scenes in all of them. There is no underground anymore, any jerk who wants to get fucked up and hit on girls can go on ravewave and find a small "underground" party and go ruin someone's night.

PS) You can wear whatever u want to it, but the more people wear white the trippier it is to be in the crowd, IMO.

you can't stop people from indulging in what they desire. making drugs or prostitution illegal has done nothing to stop either, because many people are going to pay for what they desire, regardless of the law. if you tell unmarried people to abstain completely, it will not reduce disease or pregnancy, not everyone can control their desires, and many just won't believe the arguments for why it is considered wrong. someone could have the self-control and still get aids because their partner cheated on them or they got raped. causing people to hide their actions out of fear will spread these problems.

They have done studies at schools with high pregnancy rates (in Britain) which started new sex-ed classes that taught that sex and intimacy can be more than just intercourse, suggesting oral sex, etc. as an option, and pregnancy rates dropped. telling them to not have any sexuality at all, will do nothing, but education that gives the real facts and not propaganda works better. Just like with drugs, if u tell kids its evil and just say no, they will do it anyways, but if you give them the straight facts, more will decide to say no or to use drugs in a safer manner.

This is a long thread and it should never die! Because we aren't done yet...
we have to stop mourning the past and celebrate it's memory, and creat a new scene. I don't know how yet, but... um... I'm working on it.
So, how can we get people together who are willing to be open-minded, to work together, without judging eachother on their musical tastes, fashions, age, etc., to be creative, and motivated to give as much as recieve from the scene?
And if we can get those people together, who do not want the scene to die, how can we have parties that will keep that vibe alive without a bunch of selfish judgemental hosers crashing the party? Because we can go to any party and find other kindred people there, even if the majority are not like that. I have been to some parties where the promoters or whatever were lame and still found that one person who helped make the whole night worth it.

Gawwdammittt I refuse to allow myself to drown in jadedness. I will triumph against my own cynicism. it's not an easy thing, but either you fight it or you drop out of the scene. you have to decide which.

My crew got our tix at 40 bucks... more than i'd usually go for but i definitely don't regret it! that was such an awsome party... the progression of music was great. I got to finally dance to some old songs i'd listened to when i was too young to have danced to it at the time. I like 80s music and electro house so although the start of the night was a bit cheesy it got really great.
the crowd was really friendly and smiley, a more mature crowd than most raves. Yes, there were lots of gay men, but there were plenty of straight people, women included, all partying together and not caring about eachother's sexual identities, just having a good time together. The shows added some fun eye candy as they transformed the atmosphere to reflect the different eras of house parties. This venue kicks ass!

I have to say it was a unique party, I felt i was part of a tribute the history of house.
Of course if you don't like house you would have hated it, but the music was even better than i expected.

...I didn't know about the animal intoxication before.

I think it's funny that my home town is at the start of it all.. how appropriate (but it's called the Holy Smoke, not the Smoke Shack. jeez.)

dj Amalgam, you need new friends. sorry.
----------------
ok maybe thats the wrong term to use, but i think a lot of people have learned good things thru their experiences. others have learned only bad things. i think a lot depends on your reasons for using them and who you use them with. if u do it just to get fucked up, u will get fucked up, and learn little that is useful, but you'll get what u wanted. if u are the type of person who wants to grow as a person, these experiences, like all experiences, can help that process.
