Not that anyone cares but I do agree with Deadfunk's review. I must say I was impressed as well with Antonino's manipulation of the camera, not a lot of shaky shots and some of them are actually very well done. Some interaction with the protagonists are also subtle enough not to be overpowering.
You'd think this long and intensive labor of love would warrant SOME FORM of commentary though, some form of voice over at the beginning or end (or better still, at various points between clips to lighten the interminable barrage of), to explain what drove him to document and capture all these people on celluloid for so long, his gratitude for those who participated (instead of a rudimentary thank you list), personal reflections on them and his general experience on the rave scene, what his hopes for this film are, how he wishes we'd remember it in a few years, personal reflections, etc. Instead, we're treated to a bunch of discombobulated clips that come across as something totally impersonal which just accentuates the feeling of watching a giant rave-themed family movie. Like Deadfunk says, Antonino's talent is there, it's just so poorly used, it taints the movie throughout. I know it's his first foray into film making and I hope he actually reads our comments and acknowledge the positive but especially the negative points we are voicing out towards his recent work in order to ameliorate or improve on his next film... which I hope he does, what with the whole "please change the name of the movie" fiasco and his refusal to listen to anyone about it. I guess time will tell. | |
