 Coolness: 221715 | WOW, this definatly got out of hand and fast. i personally know Julien Seyer as he has done artwork for a few Rewire's, Soma, Eclipse (i think) and many north american and even international parties. He takes his work very seriously and it is normal to take offence, as an artist, when someone else use's your idea. I know for a fact that Julien has had that particular painting for at least 2 years now, so it was definatly him who made it first.
Yeah, they don't really look alike but i can understand where he's coming from with his frustration. To even compair computer software to artwork is just plain dumb if you ask me as the fact that he "uses" pirated software (and you really don't even know that for a fact, Noah) isn't the same.. it's not as if he re-wrote code for window's to re-create an OS environement on his home PC. So Noah, you are saying that all open-source software are just copies of Window's and should not be used for private or commercial use ? Window's was probably pissed like fuck at Linux user's once they released there first User-friendly interface...... anyhoo, no point in arguing really. just don't bash his work ! |

He is for sure copying other people's work also... That's all I'm getting at... People copy... It's alright... Not to mention he is actually copying the work, while AtzekSoul only took ideas from the original work to make something different which is acceptable. Julien is not copying a program to make his own. He is actually copying and using pirated software. And we all know him from back when and I can assure you he didn't buy all his software. So you can't go two ways, yell at someone for copying when you do the same. And once again, it's not a copy... Look at the two, they are not copies... Half moons with a circle with an eye is not a copy... |

I'm in graphic design, some of you may find my work amazing, others may find it horrible, it is all subjective and personal. Getting pissed cuz someone doesnt like your painting is just retarded, so is getting mad at some random dude who based an inferior quality painting on yours.
The guy is taking this shit way too seriously, I take my work very seriously as well, but unless someone is making money off copying my shit, then I'm just happy that person is learning from what I made, that is all that matters. As for the paintings, I dont like either of them, the image composition isnt that great, Julien's execution is better, the other one is obviously amateur work. I think Julien's is asymmetric when really it should be, especially when it comes to the female forms at the bottom. I must admit it is well rendered, I know all too well how hard it is to work with fluorescent inks on silk or other light canvas and actually have good looking gradients. Either/or be happy someone likes work enough to get inspired instead of getting high and mighty. Humility is a trait that isnt found often enough in competent artists, whatever the field. |
