Akira (2009)

 Coolness: 158275 | So Akira is being made into a movie, set to be released in 2009 if all goes well. A two parter, based on the mangas rather than the very condensed anime.
It's kind of a scary project. Ruairi Robinson is directing it (a quick view on IMDB shows that he's done nothing much, career-wise). Gary Whitta is writing the script (a writer for Futurama and Star Trek: Voyager who's also a writer for PC Gamer...) And the two main cast members so far are Leonardo diCaprio as Kaneda and Joseph Gordon-Levitt (the kid in 3rd Rock from the Sun) as Tetsuo. The story will be set in the future, 31 years after Manhattan was blown to bits and rebuilt with the aid of Japan. Imdb link : [ www.imdb.com ] What are your thoughts on the subject? A sure flop? I saw Leonardo diCaprio play really well on some occasion, he could be good in this. Let's wait for the first trailer to come out, give them a chance to succed before they officialy fail :p |

Joseph Gordon-Levitt is excellent in my book, and far too often underestimated. He could do a very good Tetsuo. I'd go see the movie even just for the bikes... :D |

(but let's not mention the Jackal anymore) I think the only saving grace for the Akira movie is the fact that they're going to cover the entire manga, which the Anime didn't do properly. |
