He's kinda still himself above the roll in most movies, but at least he has a personality, not like gear or costner etc.
I'm feeling gettin more ink soon right now..

This movie could have a lot of potential. The writer has my respect, and the actors do, too. I'm just not familiar with the director.

I can see Joesph Gordon-Levitt being the perfect Tetsuo, and I'm confident Di Caprio can play a bad ass Kaneda.

I just don't like the fact that it's set in New York. It leaves the door open for the whole story to be Americanized, which could take away a lot of the original content of the manga's and the anime (which was still fucking dope, for anyone who thinks otherwise) and bring in a lot of topical references --which would be fucking gay.

*crosses fingers*

P.S: What's with the all the rumored bullshit? Is there anything that can confirm this?
I'm feeling cool right now..

What bothers me the most is the fact that they want to cast AMERICAN actors to play japanese characters. Looking at DiCaprio, the first name " Kaneda " doesn't quite come to mind immediately.

I sort of feel sorry for the asian-american actors dying to be cast as something else than " that kung fu Yakuza dude that get killed by Chow-Yun Fat with a jack knife " in every american action movie. Shouldn't someone named " Kaneda " at least LOOK asian instead of a caucasian blonde blue-eyed guy ?

Unless they go ahead and change the charactors name for " Kenneth " and " Terry " or some shit like that.

I wonder who they'll get to do the role of Colonel Shikishima, which I presume should become Colonel Reynolds or some american last name not to confuse the north-american audience.

Wait for it. Waaaaaiiitttt fooooorr iiiiiiiiiit...............Bruce Willis.

Not ground-breaking work here I'm afraid. How many times has he reprised the role of a high ranking military officer again ?

Let's see : [ www.imdb.com ] General Devereaux, [ www.imdb.com ] McNamara, [ www.imdb.com ] Waters, [ www.imdb.com ] Masterson and [ www.imdb.com ] Muldoon in Planet Terror indeed.

Oh, I should ALSO mention, as incredibly unbelievable as it is, [ www.imdb.com ] Hannibal Smith of, OMFG, the A-Team ??!?!?!

I think he's done his fair share of military roles. :)

But alas, no mention of Akira on his IMDB page. So it won't be him. That's a shame. Heh.

The funny thing about what you said is that vast majority of Anime characters ARE Caucasian blonde bkue-eyed guys/girls.
