meals on wheels or somethin' , people tryin' to help bums and homeless by distributing food downtown and stuff ..

i saw one of those *miracle cars* packed with food, and bums on the streets getting a big -nice free meal ..
only thing is ...most of those so-called *streets peeps* were teenage punks that still probably could stay at their parents and eat properly, but that aint cool enough for 'em ...way cooler to grab your ass in Montreal and enjoy free goodies ......so yah teenage punks ..AND mostly ....hiphop-dressed fuckin ghetto drug dealers, THESE bastards get free meals
fuck that shit
i asked for a free meal to see what was gonna happen, as i was starving for real, no food at home at all ..worth the try ...i mean i'm a worker and a daddy but still i'd need help ...

bitch told me to shut the fuck up, sayin' these other peeps were *really in need for a meal*

no regular homeless right thurr, just young punks and Berri drug dealers

so yep, i kept on starving, while these bastards have free meals on a daily basis ...grabbing their asses on the streets makin'sure not to put any effort in anything ...cuz they're *free from society*

CRAP !

You paid for their meals with your tax dollars too! I don't like helping people anymore, all they do is complain no matter what you give them.

I watched this documentary on Montreal Squeegee punks etc on some french channel..I dont remember the name -I think it was called SPIT. Anyway it focused mostly on this one dude, who admitted to using the money he makes to shoot up etc. He also talked a lot about how shitty his life was @ home - being beaten/abused etc. Most of his friends same situation. Those kids just dont appear magically on the streets because its cool. Unless you are as stupid as the idiot who shot down Dawson last month. Now he was a dumbass with no life that just wanted to be cool.
However I DO agree that people can make the best out of their life if they really wanted it. I know you are raised a certain way and it all comes with self esteem/confidence/intelligence/education - but there is welfare - step 1 to get off the streets - and welfare comes with education programs/job banks to help people get off it and get their lives together and so on. Also there are TONS of programs/courses you can take for really cheap @ Dawson/Concordia with NO educational back ground needed - even free courses offered at the YMCA and so on.
SO these kids who had/have it hard can do something but they choose that life - and yes when other idiots "trying to help" them makes their lives a little easier, gives them less of a PUSH to change. I dunno but I cant even afford all the clothes and hair dye they buy. Even with immigrants living around my area - everyone is so pissed and sad and depressed all the time because I am guessing they are "poor" and dont have a lot of education and work shitty jobs - fuck go do something about it!!! YOu can buy decent clothes at Village Des Valeurs to make a nice outfit for an interview...get a cheap hair cut..some make up is cheap...know what I mean? THey should Stop spending all their fucking free time in churches praying to God - expecting him (or her...or it) to fix everything.
Sorry for the long bitching;)

oh my god same shit here....i find the aboriginal homeless to be the worst for harassement...

one time i saw some down and out people getting sandwiches from that food van and they were examining the sandwiches and methodically removing the crusts off of each before eating them......does anyone else see something not quite right with that?

Yeah, I was just thinking to myself that sometimes the only way to help people is to stop helping them.

There IS help but they either take advantage of it or they make everyone miserable because they are too miserable/lazy to accept our help. Thats when I look down on people.

I agree Pheonix but what if helping them means not helping them? What if helping them is the problem? Help comes in many forms.

Most infections don't clear up immediately after the first treatment. Persistance is a key factor in solving any problem but neglecting it will only allow itself to perpetually get worse over time. It's all about finding the proper motivation technique because alot of these people have practically given up on themselves and are too apathetic to try hard enough to self-improve. If you acknowledge that not eveyone improves easily when positive or negative reinforcement techniques are used on them, then perhaps an alternative method is required. When a homeless person asks you for change stop and use reverse psychology on them. Speak to them as if they deserve your time and respect and don't go out of your way to belittle them or demotivate them further. Sometimes all it takes to open someone's eyes and change their attitude is a little more effort than most of us are willing to provide. The right form of communication could easily help any person realize their infinite potential if they gain the desire and confidence to improve.

Never said it was easy - Jordan. I went through hell and back trying to help people..in the end it didnt do much - and i ended up stressing myself out and forgetting to take care of myself...its good to help but like moondancer said - maybe help isnt always the answer. sometimes a BIG hard shitty lesson can make a person change.

I understand what you're sayin Liz... Some people need to hit rock bottom before they can climb back up. Perhaps the majority of people living on the streets simply haven't lost eveything yet and have gotten comfortable with their situation which is why they lack the desire to change. I'll only give up on a individual if there's no doubt whatsoever in my mind that there's nothing I can do to help them, or help them help themselves. I was actually in the position earlier this year where I wanted to help someone who had a serious drug problem but eventually I realized that I had to give up on them. As I watched things continue going from bad to worse I concluded that there are a few people who just can't be broken mentally and I knew that I had done everything I possibly could to help them. Accepting defeat is something that most of us do reluctantly but sometimes its so tough watching loved ones fall through the cracks that I can't help worrying or stressing over this person because of who they were and what their friendship meant to me.

I toootally know what you mean. I have had plenty of friends like that..in fact I think ALL I had were friends like that back in the day...its HARRD...seeing bright people fuck themselves up.
But when it comes down to them taking advantage of you...fuck it man. I had this friend who pretty much showed up at my doorstep - just got out of rehab - asked to crash with us a few days...ate all our food turned the place upside down...I got them a job - quit after a few weeks - just didnt do anything...I was furious - dont want him in my life anymore.

As I'm sure you already know, you did the right thing. One might look back at the decision you made and come to the conclusion that the effort was done in vain but I'm sure this person appreciated knowing that if nothing else, you cared. My situation was very complex because the person I was trying to help was more than just a friend. He was colleague of mine and someone I even used to look at as a mentor but I'll never be able to respect him the same way I used to ever again.
