because I asked Pat how his Mackie's are doing?
I'm the kind of person who does too much research before buying stuff, unless a killer deal presents itself...
just out of curiosity though, why am I worse than a chick?
I'm feeling some feelings right now..

The mackie hr824's are good, I've used them and they have a good response.. Haven't tried the 624's though..

They are a bit pricier than the other 'cheap' monitors though

Yeah but for monitors they aren't that expensive.. There are plenty of monitors that cost 2x that

lmfao I think he's saying your worse then a chick, cuz chicks have a tendency to ask alot of questions :)

As far the the 824's... there going great. Actually remember the pillow thing I was telling you about? That actually seems to have really helped my bass problems. Production is getting much tighter as a result.

Erm and the 624's, I honestly found that they were some of the best out of the small speaker range... but you can't compare the small speakers with the big ones, the bass response just isn't the same.
I'm feeling like smoking crack right now..

if one monitor is higher than an other (considering both are at 0db and that the input signal is the same) doesnt that just mean that, its impedence is lower? or does that just apply to passive stuff?
I'm feeling fucking blissful right now..

So Steve's Music store says M-Audio bite while the Event TR8 and KRK RP8 are solid, Moog said the opposite. Now, to call Archambault...

The Dynaudio BM5a look like a clear winner on many fronts. Any nesayers?

I would without a doubt go for the Samson Rubicons. I have a pair of the R6a's and wake up every morning super happy with them. They are very resonably priced and have some features you'd be hard pressed to find in monitors double their price. They have ribbon tweeters which results in amazing highs and the the 6" sub that I have delivers a nice punchy sound when working with lower tones like kick drums or basslines. If you want, they make a model with an 8" sub call the R8a. I got mine at italmelodie - I know they had the R5a's (lacking on the lows) and the R6a's - I'm not sure if they stock the 8's - but you can go there to test out monitors which is always a good way to start finding which monitor works for you. You can also check [ froogle.com ] but keep in mind that shipping is expensive and if there is anything wrong with them you won't have the easy service of a local store - I learned this lesson the hard way by ordering a midi controller online that came with a corroded lead.

Dynaudio's have a good reputation. Used other models before and they are really flat and clinical (good for production). What price are they going for? They are generally pretty expensive

The BM5s gof or 1200 and the BM6a's go for 2000, I simply can't afford 2000$ though...
How much do those Rubicons go for?

If you can afford the dynaudio's then get them, you get what you pay for (they kick the shit out of the budget speakers).
Update » nothingnopenope wrote on Sun Nov 19, 2006 @ 3:44pm
plus considering your small room size, anything bigger would be overkill.
Update » nothingnopenope wrote on Sun Nov 19, 2006 @ 3:48pm
also the BM5's have 6.9 inch woofers (this is what I saw in the specs)...

my boy picked up his dyn's for 2 g's...

they are passive and require an apm though, and he scored his amp second hand for around 500 on e-bay.

they are honestly some of the best refs i've heard.

the samsons are decent for the money but the sound is very colored...

i tested them out at steves awhile back and thought they were good enough o get the job done for most electronic music and were really punchy.

but when i tested them with an acustic guitar c.d. they didn't really cut it.
I'm feeling warm unicorn jizz right now..
