From Neuromancer , a sci-fi novel from the 80's by W. Gibson:

''His gloved hand slapped a panel and the bass-heavy rocksteady of Zion dub came pulsing from the tug's speakers'' ...

Funny how Gibson wasn't too far from the truth ... ;)

Music has definitely put more and more accent on bass, 'specially as production value increased, over the last 30 years - but mostly in the last 10.

I'd say the future of music is some style that's pretty much only bass, except that without the other frequencies, humans cannot fully immerse themselves in the sounds.

On that note, as humans evolve (if we get the chance before we're all screwed xD ) perhaps their hearing will evolve, and maybe as we are able to hear/distinguish other frequencies (in the much higher and very low range) that would require producers and musicians to explore those other notes and ranges, maybe even necessitate the creation new instruments, programs, sound-systems, and styles ... (but now i'm getting into the distant future xD )

that's actually pretty decent .. sounds like minimal-tech with a little more emphasis on the bass .. (or 'dubby' like you say)

seriously ... which is why I love it when promoters book local live acts, like Risk, Cosmic Orgasm, Mutante, Laf-O -- I think those types of ppl have a truly 'Montreal' inspired sound, not trying to just sound like all the stuff form elsewhere that our city seems to love -- and it's funny how those guys end up getting well respected! We need more producers like that who can do live sets and who have an original sound.

I do my best to play local productions ;)

I think electronic music needs to bring back that 'guitar solo' sound, or at least sample and throw some guitar solos in songs. That wanking metal guit solo stuff got a little old, but classic rock/blues type solo filled w/ emotion ... yummy.

AND, what we really need is to create a new sound that represents our City -- where's that 'Montreal sound' ? A bunch of countries and cities have a style they popularized, who's names are synonymous with a genre. Get crackin' people! Put our fucking nation on the musical map! ;)

So, obviously we were all wrong, 2012 has ended up just being much of the same xD ... (though I am finally working on a surf-core tune :p ) ...

Predictions for new styles of music, inventive cross-breeding, interesting amalgamations, etc. for 2013?

To hit the charts, I'm going with:

Country-step
Hard-Hall
Rock'n'Core
Melodic Noise
Grime-Trance

... and I'm still gunnin' for Speed-Psy ;)

the best part of this thread is that the actual gays and lesbians of this site are obviously avoiding it like the plague xD

why? 'cause it's fuckin' stupid to presume to speak on behalf of an entire culture (or, life-style if you prefer) to which you have no ties. And obviously no self-respecting homosexual is going to come on here and make a statement to add to an already retarded stream of typed diarrhea.

there's really nothing more offensive than defending people who don't need defending, 'cause an assumption of helplessness is made.

any dude who like dudes, any chick who likes chicks, is perfectly capable of making their own judgments about what/who 's homophobic or not, without the help of assholes from the peanut gallery.

you really wanna help? take to the streets and help the guy being beaten for his sexual preferences, go to Texas and fire-bomb some gay-bashing twats with a 'homos are the devil' sign in their front-yard.

kthnxbye.

what's weird about summer-time for raves now, is that all the Psy ppl throw so many events / festivals, that the summer is practically reserved for them. I wanted to do an event in the summer, but waiting 'til the end 'cause the calendar is full of parties and fests, yes mostly Psy ...

The sad thing is that after all the calendar space taken up by these promoters, alot of events were wither cancelled or mild failures, so far (cash-wise, since the parties themselves were probably well-put-together and fun despite the lack of ppl) ...

So, I doubt we'll be over-run by psy again next year, as I think that scene has reached the limits of it's potential clientele.

(No offense to any promoters btw, if any offense can be taken, since I know they all do a pretty good job of organizing nice parties)

I heard that too, but I was also told that some people blew things out of proportion (pun not intended) and that it never happened, more like an incident that happened nearby (involving some of the party-ers) but not on the party grounds ...

Wish I knew the truth, but if there's a victim he obviously won't advertise it, and if there's no victim, then there's no one to say it didn't happen.

Some people definitely got in a fight, and there was blood ... that's the extent of the facts for now.

ps. Happy Birthday Dee!
