Security can confiscate illegal substances, i guess, so that the 'citizen' can be law-abiding while under the hired security's 'protection'. They have absolutely no right to deal out consequences or punishment for any sort of narcotic possession. They aren't the police. The worst they can do, is either boot you out of the place they work, or call the cops themselves to have you arrested for drug-possession (which never happens -- mostly 'cause they're there to protect other ... well, y'know)

If you're violent, or being a major nuisance to other 'clients' under their care, they can boot you out. NEVER ever do they have any sort of right to lock you up and beat you down. no matter what the situation is (unless you're running 'round stabbing ppl, or are robbing the place, obviously). Of course, just like everyone else in positions of power, they'll do what they want.

So, unless your friend was being a total violent belligerent dick to them or others, they most definitely stepped way over the line.

Again, if you were "raised wrong", you might deserve to get kicked out, but never kicked in the face. I've seen some really sweet security at bars n' parties over the years, who deal with situations calmly, and i've seen the worst abuse of power as well. But mostly, the in-between stuff -- justified violence toward stubborn violent 'clients' ...

Your friend is best off facing a small possession charge (if the proof is even still in existence) in order to bring hard-headed ultra-violent douche-bags to justice.

sorry, i'm with the victim on this one. unless, of course, he was being an extreme asshole himself, which apparently he wasn't ... .. .
I'm feeling you up right now..

thnx zombie. Thats why i am so upset, he was clearly not a threat, he was not violent, he was super wasted and could barely move! There were witnesses that can attest there was no need for violence. Totally abusive. The guy has never been aggressive in his life, I've known him for 8 years and never saw him raise his voice or be violent -even if totally trashed.

The only thing he did while in that room was screaming, but who wouldnt, you're handcuffed to a pipe in a dark room...
I'm feeling amused right now..

if someone is too plastered to even move, i understand that security might be upset (no one likes a bent half-asleep drunk/high person at their event) but he's already subdued! what more do you want?

so, he's on a boat, he can't be thrown over-board. give the guy a nice dark corner to sit in, and make sure his friends are watching over him and taking care of him! that's it! this ain't rocket surgery, and security is supposed to be used to that kind of situation ...

we had a dude at the bar last week, found after closing, near passed out on the toilet bowl with his pants down. so, we were a little dickish at first (who is this asshole and wtf is he doing here?), but then just told him to think about the situation .. "dude, you're in a bar on a toilet at 4am with your pants 'round your ankles and your lil' dick hanging out, think about that! be more responsible next time, 'cause this is embarrassing, and you're lucky we're nice ppl ... " -- it was a little weird XD

No no, he was fine when they arrested him, he got caught in the action so he was not falling down or unable to move at that point. He wasnt being a dick or annoying ppl, they just caught him with K and I guess he got dizzy a few moments later. I dont have all the specific details about when he was feeling more wasted, but he was pretty drunk. Anyway, still not a good reason...

anything short of being violent with others, is not never a good reason for beating someone up. 'specially if you have training and are in a position of power .. yet, i'm not surprised. this stuff happens all too often.

Not surprised one bit, sucks for your friend, Jo.
"Legion" rings a bell, but can't remember where I saw 'em. Can anyone tell me what events/type of events they did security for, aside from the MEG boat?

If a security guard confiscates any type of illegal narcotic, he will be in possession of an illegal narcotic. His secutity guard uniform doesnt give him the the right to be in possetion or handle anything illegal.
Doesnt give him the right to hand cuff anyone, even less to a pole in a dark room and then beat them.

If the story is correct and provable, the security guards responsible could be in for some serious criminal charges.

Where do they think they are? Guantanamo?

Unless this longstanding law have changed, a citizen arrest give you the right to do that but also obligate you to contact an officer of the peace ASAP.

mistake # 1- he got CAUGHT with dope.

mistake # 2- he LET them handcuff him...WTF, do you let strangers handcuff you?

mistake # 3- he let them shove him in a closet without screaming and clawing there eyes out.

mistake # 4- he didnt call the cops immediately when he "got away" ( take the dope charge and get them arrested)

i can go on, but this is Montreal we are fucked up and bad shit happens on every block every hour.

so if you wanna sniff dope and party like a badman , shit might pop off.

NONE OF YOU OR HIS FRIENDS STEPPED UP TO HELP!!!!

if you cuff and beat one of my friends i'll be in RDP by morning.

oneton out.
I'm feeling merkle right now..

#3 he did scream, to no avail - he was completely isolated from everyone
#4 the cops were there when he got off but they let him go 2 min later saying this was ridiculous

I don't go out anymore so I wasnt there. His roommate spent 45min looking for him but the guys refused to show her where he was kept. After arguing with them nonstop, they finally agreed so this is when she witnessed him handcuffed to that pipe in that dark room. She was very shaken by what she saw considering he didn't do anything violent.

Like I said, my friends are super peaceful and don't typically fight, so she didn't know what to do to help him. He also is not the type to fight so he just waited for the boat to dock. What else could he do??

He did go to the doctor right after and he said his face was "a mess". It was red / blue and he had bruises on his arms.

Also, he just told me that they stole his money AND one guy was taking photos of him WHILE he was handcuffed!!!!!!

WHAT
THE
FUCK
!!!!

Hey all you smarty-pants dudes with your advice on why the guy got kicked in the face... just a second.

They were kicking him in the face. That's how you think they should do these things? Really? I mean why is there any debate about that being excessive? I hope everyone's just trolling, otherwise... woah... you like when the security's like that? Fair enough, enjoy the burgeoning police state.

Yeah so no, nobody ever said that what the security guards did was right, I think it's pretty clear that hand-cuffing someone down and kicking em to the face is abuse of power.

But what all you people need to realize is that normal people, ie: people who don't witness large scale drug use every week-end at raves, freak the fuck out when they see you snorting white powder from a small vial in public settings. Why didn't your friend go to the bathroom or something to snort his k? I doubt the security would have came into the stall to check up on him.

If a "normal" individual sees you doing hard drugs in a public setting, they're going to assume your a junkie lowlife and need your fix that badly and will thus treat you accordingly.

I don't know your friend and can't call him an uneducated moron or whatever, but in this situation he did something stupid and got caught. And although me and you believe the consequences don't match the crime; and we're probably right, your friend has to comet to terms with the fact that he fucked up and should be more discreet next time. There are dumb aggressive people waiting to beat you up everywhere; Montreal is pretty chill but you still gotta be careful.

bad security are a stain on the scene because they incite gangbangers to shoot up security and hit a few civilians in the process... We've all heard stories of this happening.. pissed off trigger happy gangbangers get 'revenge' on the bouncer and a stray bullet hits some innocent... bad news...

Yeah- I was under the impression he was on the dance floor, but he told me yesterday that he was actually doing it in the bathroom, with the door closed (even worse than I thought). They kicked it open, then pretended he "peed on them" to have an excuse, but he wasnt even in the bathroom to pee, obviously. He pointed out that his pants were 100% dry, but they just ignored him. Anyway. this story is getting worse and worse every time I hear more details.

I just hope these assholes will be fired and compensate my friend for his traumatic experience. Security is supposed to help people feel safe, not fucking abuse them! What if this happens to a young girl who's too wasted to react... wouldnt even be surprised if they raped one already!
I'm feeling amused right now..

Sorry but what does this have to do with anything?
The way some old lady sees drug use shouldn't impact on the way a security guard does his job. If you work at a party, your mandate isnt to turn into The Punisher at the sight of an illegal narcotic, but to make sure no one hurts any one or breaks anything.

If it where me, I'd press charges against the guards and sue the security company.

fuck that
