I know that those fines are payable to the City.
If you plead guilt, you admit you comitted an act and you have to pay a fine, paying the fine is pleading guilty. But there's no laws attached to that. It's only "rules". So I'm not a lawyer but I don't think it's in accordance with the law. If you plead not guilty, you will be summoned in court and they will SUE you. So it's more a SUIT than a FINE I think.

Noted, thanks :) J'suis d'accord, autant que j'aime l'underground montréalais, c'est bien que la plupart des transports en commun dans les grandes villes (light-rail-trains surtout) passent par l'extérieur, ça change d'un gros tunnel noir :)

Heh, that "mosquito" can still be heard by some adults, it's all a matter of how well your ears still function / have aged.

I'd be surprised if more than a few people on this board can hear 17.8 khz.
Cathode ray tube televisions make a 16khz tone which I can hear and drives me crazy, so if you can't hear that, you can't hear the mosquito.

I can hear it, and I've kicked in my old TV's several times because of it.
And this mosquito shit isn't going to just be in the metro's. It's going to be all over the city wherever "unfavourable persons" may be found, such as in public parks or schools where youths may be found after hours of operation, etc. (If you plead guilt, you admit you comitted an act and you have to pay a fine, paying the fine is pleading guilty. But there's no laws attached to that. It's only "rules". So I'm not a lawyer but I don't think it's in accordance with the law. If you plead not guilty, you will be summoned in court and they will SUE you. So it's more a SUIT than a FINE I think.) I don't know exactly where Metro Cops stand, as opposed to the SPVM, but on their website, they state that they have the right to enforce ByLaws just as much as the Police do. If whatever wiki says is true, even a Private body can create a bylaws, but I don't believe that applies to the same shit as what we're talking about here. Perhaps the Rave Police could educate us on the matter.

I'd rather do my own news report... Big media just bends over to whatever the government wants. I could go down there with a camera and a digital recorder.
I've been wanting to do something about all the video cameras as well. Update » nothingnopenope wrote on Sat Jun 14, 2008 @ 2:23am I saw these earlier today, and heard the sound. The problem is a device that produces 17.8khz sounds is not guaranteed to produce only 17.8khz sounds in a particular space. There are a lot of variables involved such as the location of the walls and the shape, and it can cause a resonance which produces even more frequencies. I seriously doubt that I can hear 17.8khz clearly but from what I heard it sounds like the device might be producing frequencies from 16,000khz. Unless they used some good sound analysis equipment after installation, they aren't guaranteed to only be producing the intended frequency.
One of the corridors leading from the Longueuil metro to the green line was especially bad. See if they asked my sorry 24 year old ass I could have explained there things to those stm dopes.

yeah, you could even record the sound with your digital recorder and do an analysis of it to show that it's actually NOT doing the frequency range specified and that it's bothering everyone, not just the "kids" who are supposed to be the only ones that can hear it.

So is the system on now? does it continuously emit the sounds?
or are they waiting to set up every or major metro stations? this is bad. |
