Si j'aime la scène rave?
Plus qu'hier, moins que demain.
Est-ce que les raveurs sont trop jeunes?
Non, c'est juste nous qui vieillissons...
I'm feeling kinetik right now..

I think overall, theres a general lack of substance in the community today. You get what you pay for and a lot events lately are pretty much prime examples.. lazy broke promoters throwing cheap raves with cheap flyers, inexperienced pseudo dj's, no flow, cheap sound, cheap venues with little or no deco, all leading to an overall cheap experience. If I were a new raver coming into the community hitting some of these "raves" for the first time I'd head for the hills and never look back... I don't see a lot of attention to detail on behalf of many of these "promoters" and I definitely don't see a lot of attention to quality. I think instead of doing 10 cheap raves a year promoters should be focusing on higher quality well prepared ones.. its time for a little quality over quantity.. no?

Have any of you ever been in the zone? Those that have know exactly what I'm talking about and are smiling ear to ear reading this right now. I mean the perfect night.. the killer party you've anticipated and saved up for with just the best most awesome talented dj's in your world, lost in this crazyass venue decorated wall to wall with the most awesome artwork that makes you feel like your on another planet surrounded by truely fucking awesome people on the dancefloor with the best most awesome tweaked out sound rig you've ever heard with a top notch dj at the helm that knows just what you need and keeps you there for what seems like forever.... and you'd stay there forever if you could. *sigh*... why on earth would you want to waste your time and money on anything less?

If your a promoter.. Be a promoter and do this shit right.. get into it! If your a Dj.. be a dj and do this shit right.. get into it! If your into deco..awesome!!.. but do this shit right and get into it!! and that goes for just about every other faction of the community. It can be a neat hobby but don't be afraid to get into this shit.. don't be afraid to be truely passionate about what you do and what you believe in. its an art form. Take your time.. OBSERVE, take some notes, save up if you have to, but for godsakes.. do this shit right and get into it!!! I'd take one awesome party over 1000 half baked ones any day and I whole heartedly believe that if the parties these days were produced with more finesse everyone in the community would benefit from the experience.

Be Good, Much Love -K

I don't really have anything to add, but I'll say I that can truly appreciated Breath's, Murdock's. and UFOT's posts.

For the time that i've been attending parties, I've notices the decline that they've been mentioning.
Even if my first rave took place in 2000, and that missed the true "Golden age" of parties, I can honestly say that they weren't like they used to be. I can't put my finger on exactly what is missing, but something has definitely changed. Whether it's due to the organization (venue, lineup, headliners) or just the attitude, but promoters really need to get their act together.

I honestly get more excited going to afterhours and bar-nights than I do going to raves --hence my decision to attend those to nights (which doesn't affect much, mind you).

All I've got to say is --much like what those whom I've quoted have already mentioned-- is that promoters have got to offer more than what their currently doing. A room with a sound system and mediocre DJ's (no offense to anyone) doesn't cut it. I feel as though the parties lately are more "private parties", that are geared to a private group, than one that is geared than a general crowd. My only advice is to look into older parties like Cloud, Terra, or production companies like Level 4, Nice, NTK, Renegade Legion, and see what they've done to make their parties appealing and successful.

This discussion has taken place on this website over a dozen times, and I know through experience that our scene has come through. Take a look behind you to see where you want (us) to go.

P.S: I'm always pleased with what our city has to offer. Between, the mega-parties (like Black & Blue, Bal en Blanc, and even Diver/Cite), to Eclipse and Rewire, I know we have potential. What we need is to take pride in what we do, and show that Montreal can fucking rock shit.

Because I know we can.

ALLEZ! Let's go!
I'm feeling cool right now..

as usual, Breathe FTW...i damn near cried reading the comment...keep what he says in mind...

Once again, the reason why there was a failure in the scene to begin with, is the busts that took place a few years back. That did a number on the scene, and the city of MTL knows it, and did it on purpose. Unfortunately, through the aftermath of all that, all the knowledge holding ravers disappeared, leaving some to fend for the remainder, and slowly letting in a bunch of cracked out amateurs grabbing the flame and running with it, in turn running the scene into the ground (not under it, but in it). So, we have what's left, a bag of flaming crap, waiting for someone to put it out, and end up with shit all over their shoes. One the other hand, many promoters whose minds are intact, have been throwing some quality, fun, great, parties...

I still have faith that these promoters, along with some new ones that understand the nature of techno, will continue and be an example. Still, the main problem, i find, is that people still don't appreciate the music enough. Maybe that's cause the music is bad, or maybe it's cause the DJs aren't always good enough, or just cause people have other priorites for raving.

+ everything that Breathe said ;)

I really hope none of this comes across as pretenscious, it's just what i've lived and witnessed over the last 8 years or so...

BTW, whether the scene is dead or not is of no importance. All scenes are dead. Just gonna have to live with that, and create something zombified; "And the dead shall walk the earth!"

Don't worry, there is still some form of "hope"... .. .

I shall post it on here, but I've kinda already been negative towards the scene, mentioning how the people aren't as nice, in my opinion because of the cliques. and shit. Ahh, sorry for typos, and lack of correcting them, K high right now. O_o

More candy.. definaely. More PLUR? Hum.. I dunno about that one. Back in 2000 there were a LOT of bitch ravers that luckily, are now gone from the scene. One thing I'm happy about. However, that being said, the scene itself has definately gone downhill. Someone told me last night that it's because the rave scene died when Cyber Vamp died. God rest his soul.
I'm feeling fabulous dahlink right now..
