The average income for a non-elderly male in Canada after taxes is 29900$/year. You can do the math if you like but after taxes, thats...about 50k.
[ www40.statcan.ca ] "repair/maintenance services COMPLETELY SUCKS" The busses and metro's in Mtl are all about 35 years old. you kow how it is with old vehecules, they have to be fixed more often. I'm woundering why you say that repair/maintenance suck? Seems to me like the public transit system is pretty reliable, in general. I wouldnt say they offer No services, last time i checked, they were on 9hrs out of about 20 Update » databoy wrote on Thu May 24, 2007 @ 4:05pm I have been around a little bit longer than most of you though.

I dont live on the plateau for its trendyness, i have lived here for a long time, and it does fit in with my way of life. I have lived here so long i dont pay crazy prices for my rent.
The service is fairly reliable but not as reliable it should be, every day there is line that goes down for X amount of time. I've been using it mostly every weekday for 15 years and i've been stuck waiting for stuck doors or other maintenance issues more times than i can remember You cant know if you have been around longer than most of us. You need to compare the average income stats with the average education etc. You also have to add to that the benefits. remember they make 70k a year with all the benefits. The average male that makes the 29900 doesnt make 20k of benefits. anyways, nothing will convince you, but i'm not alone in saying they are overpaid, yet you are alone saying they are underpaid. Not that when more ppl think something is right or true it makes it right or true... but... |

If all together you determine that 50K is to much for a middle class job, well i guess thats the world you'll end up living in.
"You cant know if you have been around longer than most of us." What exactly cant i know? Update » databoy wrote on Thu May 24, 2007 @ 4:53pm The stat i was refering to do not hold into account the benefits. If it did, the average would go up as well.

Your data is flawed, to begin with you can't use Canada's stats to make a claim about Quebec, Quebec has a much lower average income compared to different provinces.

Ummm.. Hello you comparing NYC transic workers to Montreal's??
" the New York urban area (18.7 million people) had a total GDP of $1,133 billion in 2005 " I will say it again, this is extortion, and the government will/or should step in soon. Update » Trey wrote on Fri May 25, 2007 @ 8:13am People here aren't bitching about Unions. We are bitching the maintenance workers using the Union as a leverage tool and going on strike. |

Posting figures about salaries in other countries, provinces don't prove any points. The only relevant data is the average salaries of people in Quebec. Also the average also includes the people who make multi million dollars, a better example would be the median salary of workers in Quebec.
If you and nine friends are at a party who make 30000 a year each and someone who walks in make 10 million a year the average income in the room is now 1027000, the median is 30000. So you could claim hey the average income is over a million bucks when in reality you and your nine friends are still just scraping by.
