 Coolness: 145105 | Living with an handicap is never easy, but she can still live. Of course, life will be quite harder for her than for "normal" people, but given the choice, I'm pretty sure she would choose to stay alive.
You might think that it's cruel to let a child live with such an handicap. I think it's even more cruel not to give her a chance to live. |

But thne comes the question of integrating a FACELESS child into society... we are by nature SOCIAL creatures. Do you believe she'll EVER be able to lead a regular existence? no. She might excel in school or what have you, but she cant even talk! How far will she get without the main keys to human survival.
And fine Helen Keller this Helen Keller that. But she was an anomaly. Realisticaly, this kids life is going to be a tumultuous path... more so than anythign any of us have or will ever experience. |

 Coolness: 62055 | i agree with ze ev, its not about her looks. She can't eat or breathe on her own, and she can't speak. She'll spend most of her youth in and out of the OR. Plus there's the stigma of living your entire life looking as that kid in the video said "disgusting." Not many ppl are going to recieve her weill even if she's a sweety. Hats off to the parents for A) having the will to keep her and B) having the strength to keep on trekking. I dunno what i'd do. |

More importantly tho, i think at the end of the day, no matter how hard her life will be, we just can't play god. Maybe she'll grow up and hate the world, or maybe she'll grow up and be happy and thank her parents for not killing her. Only time will tell, and then its up to her. |

I think it's kinda neat in a morbid way that people think she should be killed. That's how awful people think the world and her life would be. I, obviously, don't think she should be killed. But isn't time to start working on a cure for travesties like this? |

you should try actually reading what i wrote though. be warned, however, that the fact that i have a point may scare and disorient you. :b all that aside, more to the point - of COURSE she won't be able to lead a "regular" existance, but it's not our decision as to whether she's allowed to be alive or not. a lot of kids are born w/o the ability to see, hear, walk, breathe, etc but they have the right to life just like everyone else. ^-- this is a mightly big spectrum, and unlike some i believe there is a "red line" somewhere at the bottom of it below which there is simply no point. several centuries ago (or even today and some parts of the world) this argument would never even have taken place. we can pride ourselves on being an educated, humane, democratic society. but where is the line when ideals become so paramount in themselves that they begin to border on the ridiculous? i'm not a Dictator ruling a country nor do I want to be (actually according to that recent personality quiz, I'm a mob boss  ), so as I've mentioned earlier, I state my views as they would apply to my personal situation only, should I ever god forbid be placed in one.
I think the general tone in which most people in this thread argue is unwarranted due to the fact that they are not dictators nor any form of government either. Now when are we getting together Nadine? :b |
