There are also very non-religious people who let theur beliefs guide them into doing stupid things.

I wonder why you would blame the religion and not the action. Religion is a neutral thing, humans make it into a positive or negative.

I, personally, will not disregard or not respect a whole religion just because some people use it to the detriment of others. I undertnad that if some aspects of a religion can be used negatively upon others, it makes one wonder about the religion. However, the bottom line is people need to learn how to think.

what about religions that are about peace, mysticism, what about the native american religions, or the aboriginal australian religion, in those cases who is trying to keep them subjugated, the people themselves,

fuck man, people have such negative conceptions of faith/religion/spirituality,

common you got to ask yourself, when we go and worship the beat on a saturday night, how much different are we from some crazy tribe in the middle of Africa praying to the rain gods

try to open up your minds a little, don't be so threatned by religious spiritual people,

Bible-based religions keep people under total control. Most religions here were christianized like The Lady of Guadalupe.
Other religions such as native spirituality were shunned. They were banned and taught that they and even the native people themselves were dirty.
All this by Europrean and Spanish settlers.

Austrailia is another example of European invaders shoving their christian beliefs down people's throats.

It's so easy to say that religion is okay when you're eating out of a trough.

They should make a new law whereas you sould keep your religion/superstition to yourself.
Sure some are peaceful but are more cultural and traditional than bible based religion.

Also, Islam is not a relgion of peace.
Most of these religions are roots from one source.

i'm not so quick to throw out the religion, because i think your throwing out the baby with the bath water, if you get rid of religion then get rid of all religions, then it becomes really difficult to say what's a religion and whats not religion, is nazism a religion, are free love cults a religion, is DJing or graf a religion...

it starts getting really complicated, (surprise, surprise) and very arbitrary, then the people with power start deciding whats a religion and wants sacrilige, and they base it on their own interest, this is one of the reason why, although i am very sypathetic to marxism, i just can't rap my head around the anti religion (marx "religion is the opiat of the masses)

let the people who want to be atheist be atheist, let the people who want to be spiritual be spiritual, in the end you can always change your mind right?

if you guys find peace in destroying spirituality for your self then all the more power to you, but don't ask me to do that, in the end we should always be able discuss this topic with out anybody thinking that they are comming under attack, atheist or spirtually or inclined.

much like religion there has been to much bad fealing through out this whole thread, it shouldn't have to be like that.

How so do you think I destroy spirituality for myself? I could be into scientology or spiritual without being religious. I could apply applied religious philosophy to my life and not be religious. I'm at least empathetic to religious poeple but I prefer to simply not believe in that and I have expressed valid points that still stand. Are you getting a bad feeling because not everyone agrees on the same thing?
You can't say that religion doesn't subjugate people.

As stated previously, No qualms about any religion whatsoever, be what you wanna be, believe what you wanna believe.

Only stating opinion.
I do not mean to offend anyone in doing so...

Well, well, well... so much going on...

I think Ian's "battle" is one that I've picked for myself before.

I, like some of you, do not believe in organized religion. I mean I sincerely doubt that I will ever baptize or join any religious affiliation to become a disciple of that religion. But, it's been my experience that all religions contain some truth and something to learn from.

I've noticed that people get quite "icky sticky" , if you can understnad that, about religion and spirituality. Often people confuse the two.

I think Basdini (I could be wrong) is just trying to stress the importance of spirituality and rightly so, it is important. We are spiritual beings. There is a part of us that is intangible, not physical--the spirit and there is value, lots of value, in percieving ourselves in this manner.
Sometimes, I am convinced of something-- with good reason usually. And I want people to acknowledge what it is I am convinced or feel strongly about. But I don't want them to acknowledge superficially, which is why I like to explain my point of view.

I am not sure that Basdini is taking this too personally. He's still wants to discuss things and I think we are better in discussing than avoiding. So....

words are tricky... there's just so much we can say....
