I haven't said that, but most virus these days are simply using windows bugs and shit.

Since XP is out, they've been hundreds of security update because the OS is full of fails.

They really suck at making OS. I hate Linux. I want a mac.

Ian: add another 512mb ram (who wants a dual processor system with only 512mb ram?!?!?!), a 17 inch lcd monitor (the apple one is 1000$), and the system is way over 6000$ after tax... And that's still keeping the 200$ radeon video card...

And then in a few years you end up throwing out that system because of your propreitary case which will surely change with the next major model shift... Apple surely makes a killing from people who are obsessed with their macs, having to buy a new computer every few years...

I have a 5 year old G4 that runs the newest Mac OS as well as apps, and it runs well.

I've yet to ever meet anyone who 'throws out' a mac.

As for the monitor bit, you have to buy a monitor with EVERY computer, all manufacturers do that.

for fun i've descided to go over to dell's website, as well as apple's and i put together two similar configurations for computers..

512Megs of RAM
250Gigs HDD (SATA)
17" Flat screen monitor
Dual Processor (max available for each)
-2.5Ghz G5 x 2 (for the mac)
-3.6Ghz Xeon x 2 (for the dell)
8X DVD-R
56K modem
256Meg Graphics Card:
-ATI Radeon 9800 XT (for the mac)
-nVidia Quadro FX 3400 (for the dell)

whats the total??

wow, you're right the mac is more than $6000 with a 17" monitor..

just so you know, all the dells come with 128megs of ram untill you bump it up. same goes for ALL major manufacturers. they don't try to assume what amount of ram you want, so they let you chose..

fact is, you're basing these prices off what you *think* macs cost. i've owned 4 macs, and they are not as expensive as most people think.

if you don't believe my pricing, go to dell's site, and plug in the same info i did for both.

actually i made a mistake.. the dell uses a 17" CTR, not LCD.. if it were LCD, it'd be $410 more.

only problem is that dell triples the prices of all components

so does every other computer manufacturer..

unless you build your computers yourself, a mac will not be more expensive.. dispite what scotty thinks.

you ever go shopping at microbytes?
when i went to build my computer in feb, more than half the parts i wanted they didn't have in stock even though their flyer said it was in stock.
I would have had to 'order' the part, which would have been a differen price than advertised, as well i would have had to wait like 2 weeks for the part to come in.

building a computer youself is not a viable solution for more than 99% of the people who use computers.. so bringing that up is pointless.

When I turned 14, a bunch of my family pitched in cash for me to get a computer. Rather than buy a pre-bought system and get a 386 for 3000$ + tax, we got 1500$ and bought the parts, and then I built it myself using nothing but the manuals that came with everything with absolutely no experience.

Ian I think you are ignoring the fact that you CAN'T BUILD YOUR OWN MAC, YOU HAVE TO BUY/ORDER IT.

Anyone who is spending money on a serious workstation might seriously consider building their own, in which case the price for the PC drops way down.. Since you can't do that with macs, you are stuck with apples inflated price no matter what..

What a deal!

dude, AMD XP2200 w/512 megs + Radeon AIW + 40 gig drive + CD burner + case + power supply last year cost me under 900$ at microbytes.

AMD cost nothing.

The processor becomes shitty after a few months.

anyone?? anyone who?? you know how many people i know who have computers and who think i'm some kind of computer genius to be able to build my own computer..?

fact is less than 1% of computer owners would even consider building their own computer let alone do it.. people love their package deals with warrantees! when i tell someone who wants to get a new comp that i can build it for them and that they'll save $600+ compaired to the price of a dell, they say "nah, what if something goes wrong..?"

and apple's prices are no more inflated than any other computer manufacturer.

all this is besides the point though, OS X is a far superior OS in comparisson to XP. anyone who has used it for more than 15 minutes can attest to that.
