Don't know if it's because I'm also into Liquid, because the music isn't very clear on the video or because you somehow fail to see the way he follow the beat, but he does and is pretty good at it at lots of points in the video. He fails a couple of time (specially near the end), probably because he's trying to do too much, but he's very "to the beat" and technical in other parts.

I understand what you mean about trance... Although my way of falling into trance is by getting really focused on my technique to the point where I can't even think about what I'm doing but simply doing it. But yeah, we all have our ways I guess.

I just feel a bit offended by someone saying it's impossible to dance to a whole style of music. Sounds kinda dumb and closed-minded. I've seen some amazing dancers shake it to all kind of music, dubstep included.

Well he's clearly on time (1:20-3:00, specially...not too fond of the stuff at the beginning either, and does agree that he's loosing it near the end).

This one is kinda short but I like it...and it's a good track so..

Well...what kind of performance is it if it's not dance?

He's into liquid/popping/tutting/electric boogaloo, wich are all forms of dance (all are funk styles except liquid wich is kinda different).

Dancing doesn't have to be about jumping mindlessly on the same spot at the end of each drum loop...

Just because you don't know how to dance doesn't mean people can't dance to dubstep eh.

Someone who knows how to dance will be able to dance on pretty much anything, reallly. Lack of imagination and too much drugs is the problem with the crowds (both in the dubstep scene and others).

I can definitely dance to dubstep, and I'm not the only one.

That's a video of Tiny Love:

Jo, letting yourself be drained of your energy by vampires is a waste. Keep em for yourself my friend.

And learn not to be offended so easily. All your life you'll hear people say stuff but what really matters in the end is what you know and how you deal with it... not what they think they know about you.

Yeah well...some people seem to think that there's some kind of "plateau" where you reach some kind of stable enlightenment and perfection. I think it's non-sense....it's all about constant evolution.

But yeah, I guess it's not what enlightenment really means.

There's a difference between seeking enlightenment and experimenting with the possibilities. I think enlightenment is bullshit. But then again, it depends on how you define it.

I know how you party, and you know I party like that sometimes too. As I said, this is what I consider escapism and there's no problem with that (unless escaping becomes a constant necessity).

I also enjoy the hedonist frame of mind and I don't really see how it goes against the idea of spiritual growth. They are complementary in my opinion.

The drug wisdom thing has been tried and proved long before the occidental man tried his hands at spirituality. Drugs are tools, and different drugs have different uses. Anyone truly experienced with psychedelics with them will tell you it's pretty serious business. Psychologically challenging serious...

Then again, your stance is your to keep if you like it that way.

I don't remember criticizing anyone for their "lack of spirituality" or whatever else. I don't really get what you're tryin' to do here Mark.

All I'm trying to say is that different people have different ways of experiencing things and it should be up to them to decide what's good for them.

Don't take any offend Mark, you know I respect you and everything but I clearly remember you telling me you weren't into psychedelics.

There's a huge distinction between the effects of psychedelics and most other drugs. They hardly let you escape your problems, to begin with. Instead, they usually amplify them to the point where you have no choice but to psychologicaly deal with them.

I don't think "enlightenment" comes from partying either. But then again, I'm not sure I believe in enlightenment. Bliss maybe...
I know that dancing personally brings me to places I hardly can touch by any other way, meditation included. But I agree with you here that a room full of bass is hardly the ideal context for any kind of spiritual experience. Wich is one more reason why I rarely enjoy them a lot and prefer outdoor parties/festivals.

Once again, I doubt psychedelic dumbs down the soul... maybe you should give em a try before making such claims? Not that they are for everyone either... as been said... to each his own.

I know when I party to forget and when I party to feel. They both happen, and I'm pretty sure I'm bright enough to understand the difference. Don't assume parties are always only a way out for everyone because it's what it is for you.

maybe the problem is that some people aren't jaded enough, so that they need all sorts of excuses to pretend that they're doing more than they are, instead of just accepting that listening to music you love and dancing to it is just a good time ... can't ppl be realistic & yet enjoy surrealism without calling it spirituality? meh, to each his own.

I used to agree with that.

Why should it be called "tripping out" when it's been called a medicine for hundreds of years? I mean, sure you can see it as "tripping out", but it's only gonna make the experience confusing and without any focus.

But hey... it's your choice if you decide that you're not able to touch the spiritual dimension of your self. My view is that the mind is a very powerful tool. Powerful enough that it lets you chose your truth, chose how you want to perceive any given experience. We are information receivers. It's up to you to interpret the signals in your own way.

Acceptance is for unnimaginative people. By saying that it's "just" a good time, you're giving yourself limits. Good for you if you enjoy these limits, but I don't.

Fuck consensus reality. To each his own, indeed.

ps. wtf happened to VJs?

Isn't exploring the "trippy" side of the human mind the point of any mind-altering activity like meditation/yoga/trance/psychedelic experience?

Dancing in front of an artwork like this one amplify the effects of both psychedelics, dance trance and self-reflection... But maybe I'm just trying to justify my own experience...who knows. Maybe I see symbolism where there is none.

Or maybe some people lost touch with the magic in music, arts and community. I guess it's what makes the difference between jaded ravers and the others who enjoy the show and dance with the flow.

I see that the posters have Hinduism but why? I'm quite skeptic on the number of people that actually devout themselves while dancing, yes devotion, not just dropping a pill and being high comparing this to years of meditation, prayer & beleif. the streamers look could possibly look something like fungi if you were minute ; is there a reason or people are just more high when watching Microcosmos?

what I see is consumerism. taking shortcuts to a lifestyle, pretending to live your life according to it, then when something else excite you more, pretend you've reached the height of its enlightenment.

First of all, let's be clear. Psy parties don't always have the same deco. They share the same themes and ideas, yes.

Sure, hinduism is one of these themes, but if you take a step back you'll notice it's not only hinduism, but consciousness in general. Therefore, imagery taken from religious and mystic traditions, mixed with some cosmology ideas, animist/shamanic concepts and technoid graphics.

To be honnest, I don't think most people in the scene get the ideas behind the symbols and their meanings.

The reason for all this mix up of symbols is that we don't take them for their explicit definition but more for their archetypal symbolism. A Buddah isn't only the symbol of a branch of philosophy/religion, it is one representation of Nirvana/enlightenment/dissolution of illusions. I'm not a buddhist and still can understand and enjoy the symbolism there since I believe in some of these concepts.

As I said, I know that most people in the scene don't get "it" and aren't really interested in spirituality. Then again, the younger crowd present on [ rave.ca ] isn't necessarly what represents best the psytrance scene as a whole. And to be honnest, I doubt even the majority of hindu people are really interested in true spirituality... and they still use the mystic/religious imagery as a cultural glue.

Cosumerism? How is it any different from any other culture? We have our own temples, places of rituals, we just don't name them that way because of the stigma associated to these terms and because I think we prefer the firm affirmation of individual spiritual freedom rather than organized beliefs (the downfall of organized religions).

Sure, the themes doesn't touch everyone, but I guess if it can inspire some people it is better than nothing (and hey, let's be real, Shiva is fucking badass).

Yeah... Most people here never heard dubstep the way it should be. If you've never felt drowned under an ocean of bass, if you've never heard aliens and evil creatures speak to you through sub sonic waves, you've never heard real bass music. My two cents.

As for the comments about the line-up, I think the music was more than enjoyable. There's a difference between giving constructive advices and complaining. Sure, a party like this still has room for improvement, but I think it was worth every cent and was actually one of the best parties I've been to at this venue.

Maybe trying to understand the situation, learn and try not to make the same mistake (if there was one) is the most rational and respectful thing to do? Everyone makes mistakes. Saying they made one, or that they may have made one, is in no way disrespectful. If at least it can teaches some people to be more cautious...
