The train was on its way to Montreal from Toronto when the accident occurred around 3 a.m. ET Sunday.

Police say five people, between the ages of 17 and 20, were walking next to the railway tracks and three of them were hit by the train.

Two of them were dead at the scene and one died later in hospital.

The two survivors were taken to hospital suffering from shock. Police said they hoped to interview them to find out why they were on the tracks.

Montreal police Const. Anie Lemieux said the initial investigation suggests the youths may have been spray-painting graffiti. It's believed they had parked their cars near the scene before heading to the tracks.

Lemieux said they were in an area where it would have been difficult to hear trains approaching.

"This is a pretty dangerous spot for hearing trains because you don't hear them coming as well as you should," she said. "It's possible they didn't hear the train coming fast enough to move off the tracks, so that's what investigators will be trying to understand."

When the accident occurred, passengers were taken off the Via train and bused to the nearest station. Via service later resumed.

Crap I reposted this in the news section...

Freaked out this morning when I heard it on the radio, breathed a sigh of relief when I heard their age as I know a couple guys who still bomb Turcot and the train yard.

RIP :(
I'm feeling so many robots! right now..

I still bomb turcot sometimes so yeh, its real fucked up and won't be down there ever again. The dead are Jays, Aber and a guy named Riccardo who didn't bomb but we're all part of or chilled with the Funk crew. No one from VC was there.

Turcot is tricky so its really hard to tell what happened but they were drunk so it was probably instantanious. This fuckin sucks for the graff community.

RIP

Ipods, booze and traintracks don't mix. I guess we knew that but sometimes we forget when we're pushing our luck.

Hope they're at peace.

Dude you weren't there so quit insinuating the situation, you don't know what happened for sure

Could have happened to anyone, including you, so show some respect for the dead

Anyhow RIP to those cats, beat they're tagging in heaven :)

The two that are in shock claim they we're listening music and partying with beer and weed. I've been down there plenty of times painting, I know the ropes so I don't get drunk or listen to music when I'm down there. There is a steep turn but the train is visible. Shut your fucking mouth and don't type for the sake of typing shit for brains. You know nothing.

You weren't there period.

You're making assumptions based on what you THINK happened. And the fact that you're trying to present yourself up as the guy who "knows the ropes" while moralizing the people who died is truly low, even for a seasoned scumbag like yourself Host O_o
